What a load of c**p that statement is, people buy the bigger bikes because these bikes are put in the market place.
All that power only suits a very small percentage of riders, people think they need it and thats the problem
The 250 Beta, the 250 Gas Gas, 250 Sherco would suit 90% of riders, the big hill climb you are talking about crops up once in a blue moon, if you struggle to get up this one section and ride the rest better on a much softer more controlable bike then I suggest that this option for a lot of riders is better.
I convinced a friend of mine, who is fairly useful at national level who has had 270 Beta's for a few years now to go for a 250 in 2006, he has just bought a 250 2007 model
The beta 4 banger 250, like the Mont 4RT will be and is enough for most riders...............
Steady Tiger ......if your in Kent, Sussex or Surrey pop along to a trial and see how many 250's there are.
-
Actually, I think you were right in your initial response. The event does have a good reputation thus far, after all
this,thus,the..... you need to be haggis hurled!..... you know what have that ...and have another
apologises to all, please continue with your conversation. (excluding HL)
-
Too right! I know who you are now!
o dear
-
Really enjoyed that Gizza5
(I'd love to ride the SSDT but the chances of my name being pulled out of the bag are zero thats why i never bother.)
-
I'm ready to order one but I need to know how much and when?
buy it through me for ten grand (inc diamond geezer discount)
-
350 - 400cc please in a bike weighing 65kg - i'll settle for two valves
-
Maybe Sherco started at 300+cc because they knew they would need at least that size for Cabby to ride it and didn't want to have to do a 250 then develop a 'competition' bike with more power?
I would assume they will have to upgrade the Beta as well for top level competition ?
It makes sense to have a larger 4t capacity than the 2t because the 2t produces more power!! All this talk about a clubman friendly bikes is a load of c**p. If this were the case why have we a 270cc Beta, 290cc Sherco, 300cc Gas Gas - not what you'd call clubman friendly bikes. I may be wrong about the Beta, but the chances are i'm not, its not going to have anymore go than the Mont 4rt and i found that bike lacking in Hill Leveling abilites with all the restrictors out, gearing lowered and a fast action throttle!!
-
How about 300cc EFI motor and bike weight of sub 70kg? I seem to recall a sale point for Sherco was weight and something this 4t chat in general is missing.
-
Why did Sherco go for a 320cc when Montesa and Scorpa were happy with 250cc. Beta have chosen 250cc 4t when they have a 270cc 2t. What i'm saying is unless you've Japanese power then you need a bigger displacement to match the jap engines. Valid point?
-
Just weighing up whether its worth buying.... add to the list if i've missed anything
Good Points:
1) sex on wheels
2) well thought out design
3) an engine designed and built for trials
4) excellent on rocks and in the dry (like all 4-strokes)
5) because of its weight it should be stable
6) reliable
7) Strong resale value
Perhaps not so good:
1) small but heavier than its rivals.
2) 250cc like its rivals (unlike the sherco) one model range, so would be nice to see a 125cc and 270cc.
3) carb might be a problem (fingers crossed)
4) costs more than any 2-stroke
5) is it any good in the mud
6) can level hills like a 2 stroke (my 4rt never did)
-
-
Two strokes are pushing the four stroke technology along fast. With out wanting to sound disrespectful there is no need for this question, why? When the four strokes are better than the two strokes no rider will want a two stroke. until that day comes this topic is a waste of time.
(i just hope this kind of talk doesn't see us trials riders facing a similar problem to our cousin's in the MX sport - old designed two strokes vs state of the art four strokes)
-
-
maybee its a "hot start" lever, like on mx bikes.
who cares.
if anyones interested i'm selling a wife and small child....and the cat
-
I wanted the Sherco Cabs Replica....but..... I want the beta.....but.....i didn't like my 4rt .......but......i love the looks of the beta......but.....ummmm....I want the beta . A 300cc machine would be nice

Was riding home this evening (not on me Raga 300cc ) following a Suzuki Hayabusa. As my thoughts turned to what this Suzuki would do top speed it dawned on me the busa was restricted!. So why have Suzuki and other manufacturers restricted there super bikes to 186mph? The cars are restricted to in some cases to 155mph, and I seem to remember years ago there was an agreement to limit horse power on the bikes to 125bhp (about the same as me Raga ) So why this odd speed 186mph limit?
the only thing i can think of is the average police helicopter does 186mph - but this can't be right
-
-
I knew there was a way of doing it
-
Just to thanks for all the information. Next year like this and previous years i will be wearing my poppy with pride.
-
Thanks DP. If you do hear of anything best PM me - cheers

I know of a great place, Cowden in Sussex. This is a popular venue with events like a Youth National , Centre trial, Combine plus countless other events. The land has so much potential even the Youth National trial doesn't make good of the terrain.
