EM (Electric Motion)

  1. Started by bikerpet,

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the ePure (particularly the Race, but they look to share the same structure) clutch and primary reduction is laid out? From the pics I can find it looks as if the clutch is on the motor output shaft, before the reduction? Is it a wet clutch? If it's wet then it would be interesting to see how they've dealt with input and output from the clutch. Is the primary reduction still belt? And they talk about adjustable flywheel - do they have a flywheel in there somewhere now, or weights that go on the clutch or motor? They certainly look like they've stepped up a level with the Race.

I've just come across an issue with my Domino throttle. After a small inversion that has left the throttle with a minor scar in the plastic (which may be a red herring), it has become sticky. Off the bike or with the clamp screws loose, it is fine. As soon as I start to tighten the clamp screws the self-closing disappears. I've tried packing the clamps with a thin piece of plastic: no good. I've tried tightening the clamp screws with the throttle off the handlebar and it works fine. Any ideas? I'm reluctant to take the throttle apart because of the return spring and the alignment of the gears, but that is looking like it will have to be my next move.

  3. Missus' 2021 epure race. I fitted a new chain and set it up like every other bike I have ever done - one finger gap between the spring adjuster and the swinging arm. Now it has a squeak - like a dry brake squeak which seems to come from the output sprocket at the motor end. We have both ridden it for a while but it is still there. Brake is fine and has not been touched, not had the back wheel out. No play in wheel bearings or gearbox output shaft as far as I can detect. I have backed the tension off a bit and the noise has gone. Squeak was in time with wheel rotations so it is somewhere or somehow related to that. My guess is a wheel bearing, but there is …

  4. So who will be the first owner to lay out a couple of sections in the local club trial at which only they can ride, a nifty way of winning a trial I fancy. In fact if it's the last section you'd have not only cleaned it but you and the bike as well !

  5. Started by trapezeartist,

In a moment of madness I decided to pull apart the rear suspension of my '21 ePure Race. Not surprisingly I found a few seized bearings, namely one of the dog bone ends and the lower end of the rear shock. Poor things, living on a diet of mud and water with the occasional bit of dust thrown in. Two questions really, so hopefully someone can prevent me from making any silly mistakes. I thought the whole rear suspension came from Sherco, but the dog bone bearings I found on the internet are plain teflon bushes and the EM bearings are needle rollers. Are they unique to EM, or am I looking in the wrong place? The dog bone bearings are a seriously tight fit an…

Last weekend threw up a problem on my 2023 ePure Race. After about 2 hours of practice riding I returned to my car and parked up. A few minutes later I was going to take the lazy way out and ride the bike round in a circle to load up. However I couldn't, because every time I attached the lanyard I got the beeps that say "You've got some throttle on so I'm not going to let you select a map." I fiddled with the lanyard and the throttle, switched off and on, but nothing solved it so I pushed the bike. At least I was lucky it didn't do it at the far end of the site which would have left me with a 1 mile uphill push 😱.So today I have dug into things further. I tried switching …

  7. I've been really enjoying my Escape over the last few months doing both slow and faster riding. I have started having a problem or two and wanted to see if other riders had encountered them (I've put the question to my dealer as well) They can happen and last for a few seconds a minute then it starts working normally. 1.The display shows F1, F2, or F3 instead of battery level. typically only appear while I am on throttle or regen braking. 2. The display fully turns off I'll keep riding along and eventually the display returns. Anyone else seen this?

I know some of you might find this funny, given how much 'torque' is supposedly available for electric trials bikes, so bear with me. I'm just getting used to my new EM Pure Race 22, coming from a 2017 Montesa 4RT. I've owned many other brands as well, both 2 and 4 stroke. My initial observations riding the bike for a few hours, is the power comes on much more like a 2T, there isn't a lot of torque way down low, although for sure, there is *plenty* of power. I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with lowering the gearing a little bit more to try and obtain a bit more torque at the bottom end? Overall the bike is just amazing, I've been riding in mostly the Blu…

  9. howdy ! I'm looking for someone that has gotten there e-pure race plated. I've been riding dirty on the road and I'm sure I'm pushing my luck. There is just to many good loading docks and church parking lots not to. (loc. WA state) thanks!

A friend has a 22 Epure and the battery status is stuck at 0%. The bike works and appears to charge OK. Is there a way to reset or calibrate? Does anyone know how this works? Is it a simple voltage measurement used to estimate % charge?

  11. Hi Everyone, I've been wanting to upgrade my sons 36v lite to Lipo. Knowing the stock motor fitted is 1200w 48v (advertised as running at 900w on 36v) I knew there was no issue with the motor. I have electrical knowledge but not very much expertise with regards to electronics. I do all this knowing that one by one I may have to replace the controller and other componets etc. Having installed the LIPO's charged to 48v and switching on the machine, I heard the relay click but then nothing. No burnt out controller. I tried the 36v batteries back in and everything worked fine. I know the throttle's can be voltage specific so have ordered the 48v version. …

I had never paid much attention to the breather tube on the clutch/primary drive case until today. While doing a bit of fettling I noticed that the oil was milky, so obviously I changed it. When I looked for a cause I spotted that the breather tube ended near the swing arm pivot. Well, last weekend I washed the bike after a trial by riding through some deepish water. The end of the tube would have been under water so I'm assuming it sucked up a bit of water then. I've no re-routed the pipe to finish near the spring top mount. Just a heads-up to anyone else to check it before they fill their clutch with mayonnaise. And on a different (but related) note, what was the d…

I'm 10 rides in on my 2023 EM pure race. I live and ride the steep trail geography in the mountains. However, I'm already needing more power for certain features (very, very steep rock pitches). The EM can't maintain the velocity required - it slows (bogs) on these few features. I thought to change the front and rear sprocket ratio to gain low end power, but on evaluation its already fitted with an 11 tooth front and 57 tooth rear - does this leave anywhere to go on this front? Can anyone think of a way to coax more grunt out of the bike? It feels like a way heaver flywheel might do something - if I could spool it up but I don't think that's really an option either. Than…

Anyone know of any insurance companies that'll cover the Electric Motion 5.7 for theft? Just tried Carol Nash and they won't cover anything without an engine! It won't be road registered.

  17. The missus has just bought a 2021 Epure race. We had a nice day testing it yesterday and she seems keen enough to keep it and sell her Beta. The big yes-no decision is to ride it in a trial proper rather than just on a practice ground. We have just tried to sign up for a trial and the machine details page needs a CC and engine stroke. I remember that ACU said electric bikes can now be entered into the normal trials but the electric motor has neither a cc nor a stroke. What do other people put in? (Clearly you can make up nonsense if you want but the results will show Electric Motion 250cc or some drivel which is not really "right") She very kindly let me ri…

Has anybody looked into what is involved to update a 21 bike to the 22 TKO spec? Is this possible? Cheers

I'm tempted to buy a new 2022 EM and see they have a couple trials models. I have ridden an epure race and liked it but am not sure I would ever use the clutch. Has anyone ridden the other model with traction control? Is the traction control useful? I'm no beginner but no expert either?

I'm asking the question first before i attempt to open it up. Is it possible to adjust the rotation of the throttle so the housing with the wire can point in a different position. I'm thinking this has been done to my throttle already as the open and closed positions differ from the other bike i have and this one will clash with the brake adjuster if i put it in the position i need it. Currently the closed position lines up with the clip on the housing body (blue line) whereas i need it to be the open position lining up with the clip so the main part of the housing points down rather than being where it is clashing with the brake lever. I hope this mak…
