Group, I have a 74 TY250A. Swingarm has some welding on it. There is a 77 TY250D swingarm on Ebay. When I looked up the part numbers the 74 and 77 show a different number. Can someone tell me what the difference is? Thanks in advance. Alan

When I brought my 1974 TY it had a twin spark plug head which I suspect is from a DT, I have now purchased the correct head from Ebay and am going to swap it out, I am just curious as to if this is a standard mod or just a one of on my bike.

Hi there Just bought an ignition tune up kit for my sons Whitehawk 80 and when refitting, I think it may have been wired incorrect previously (or I'm wiring it up wrong !). This is how I think it should be - hopefully someone can clarify ! Main ignition wire from coil into stator plate is joined 3 way with the stator coil wire, and a wire to condenser. Condenser then has another wire to the points. Hopefully this makes sense ! cheers and thanks in anticipation for the help cheers John

  13. Started by zotz,

My 74 250TY currently has a kickstart on it from some model of Honda. It works but is a bit too long. I have the original lever but not the splined boss. I have seen very similar parts from period Yamaha dirt bikes but part numbers all differ. I'm sure some of these must be the same. Does anyone have any cross-over part number information, or have used any of these parts?

On cleaning my bike I discovered the plastic swinging arm protector is broken. A. How crucial is it it is replaced B. How difficult a job is it. Does the swinging arm need to come out, and if so is it a major task. Thanks in advance

G'day, Can anyone help me with information regarding how best to come up with a disc brake for the front of my TY 250 Monoshock? I assume there must be a particularly common wheel/caliper/bracket combination widely used? Any help greatly apprecviated. Thanks, Jason.

Dear All, I know this has been discussed before but hoping for a few tips. I'm currently 'remanufacturing' a TY250E for mildly competitive fun use and have just spent a day stripping the forks. It all came apart reasonably well (half an hour with an air powered impact gun eventually removed the damper tube bolts). A bit of careful cutting of slots with a Dremmel got the oil drain screws out and deft use of a centre punch got the old oil seals out. So now I have a collection of parts which seem relatively unworn, but one damper tube was rusty so must have been sitting in water for a while. The stanchions are pitted and will be sent off for straightening /rechrom…
