Has anyone eny experience of the aftermarket disc brake kit sold for the TY monos - the one which uses the original drum braked forks? It appears to be a Grimerca or Brembo Calliper & Grimerca master cylinder. Is the brake any better than the original drum and is the set-up any lighter? Gordon

Hello, I'm riding an '85 TY 250, and it seems to suffer from pinging quite a lot, as well as pre-ignition. The current spark plug is an NGK B8ES, and I'm unsure whether a colder or hotter plug will remedy this, or if there's more involved. Is this fault common to this particular model?The bike is in good condition, originally being registered on the road, with 600 km. on the odometer. Thanks, Jason.

Just thought someone would like to see my last 6 months graft. What we have here is a Yamaha that started its life as a TY50 road bike, The only bit left is the rear brake plate as it points down not up. resto goes like this . blasted and stove enamelled frame and swinger SM tank and seat unit SM foot pegs SM rear brake lever clutch lightener original ty 80 clutch and brake levers ty handlebars Total enging and gearbox rebuild front fork rebuild inc bearings new chain and sprockets etc etc now ready to roll and is suprisingly fast due to high gearing and big wheels.

Just bought a TYZ of 95 vintage (I think), just wondered how many years did the TYZ sell for and what colour combinations did they have? mines got purple tank cover with a yellow seat, White front and rear guards....just curious

Just finished a rebuild on my Pinky, I've bought a metal tank off an older TY mono for now but I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on how to clean up the outside of a mono plastic tank?. I dont't want to spray it as I know it will bubble off, surely there must be some kind of a mild acid soap that can take off the horrible yellow colour these tanks seem to go....any thoughts?

Hi guys, I have been looking around for a dirt bike and came across this for sale on a local (New Zealand) site : TradeMe - TY350 I wasn't specifically looking for a trials bike, but thought this would make a very versatile bike being light and also having enough power for normal riding. We already have a KDX200, so I like the idea of a bike that is a contrast to that. I was hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable could tell me what things to check for before buying. When pulling in the clutch lever on our TY 175 there is a resistance as if something is worn, possibly in the vertical arm or pushrod area. Once the mechanism has passed this resistance the clutch then operates quite normally. Has anyone any ideas as to the cause of the problem and what might need to be done to cure it.

Went to the NEC sunday, couldn't get my head around the fact there was M X ers galor, KTM, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kwak etc on show and just ONE trials bike on the motul stand, a 300 gasser, oh and a 125 scorpa. Come on this is a National show, why not trials bikes? Went to the dirt bike show last year and I was ready to come home after 20 mins? Shirty had the best stand, Not ALL the importers were there!!!!!!!!!! It was also like a Car Boot sale........... A waste of time !! Come on lets see 06 have a good turn out at the NEC.

Just about to do the footrest mod to my TY Mono before I send the frame away to be painted, I know you go 'down and back a bit' but how far ? is it just a case of grinding the old hangers off and taking the new hangers to the edge of the current frame work...or do you have to 'add' a bit more metal to the frame to get the right angle ? cheers

hi , have bought for my kids a ty 80 , ( hard to get one in any condition i,ll say!) it has suziki rm 80 forks ( in poor cond) would any one know what the ty fork length from cap to axle center is and the tube diameter , it has i think the rm clamps which are for 27mm tubes , if i can find some early yz 80 forks i would be better off but may have to set up the yz clamps , thanks

What is the ideal sprocket combination for Yamaha TY 175, just removed a 60 rear fitted a 51. I have just got a 13 front 51 rear from Talon, so I left the old 13 front on for now. Is the 13x51 the most common combination?
