In the process of putting one of the TY's back together and have a little problem with the wiring and wondered if anybody can help? All the engines i have in the shed seem to have different wiring colours. The one i'm installing has a Yellow, Yellow with red trace and a black wire coming from the mag. Which do i connect to the coil ? Have checked the other projects and all seem to have different wiring colours, i assume the coils are all aftermarket ones, on the coils. Can anybody help? Thanks.

hi i own a Yamaha Ty80, my bike has sat in the garage for 4 to 5 years with no use what so ever as i grown up and got bigger bikes, but its a shame for it to sit there so therefore i am currently restoring it. Im only 16 so i have limited knowledge on these bikes but when i stripped the bike took carb of petrol tank and so on there was a form of green moss in and around the tank so i cleared it out etc cleaning progress. the carb was terrible and ive never seen one as dirty as this. i cleaned the carb very well and unblocked all passages i.e fuel pipes etc. the bike is now looking well and the spark is very good. the problem is that when i kick the bike it feels like it h…

Just pick up Ty80 Runs well , However it has a funny noise in low revs. Sound like the piston is hitting spark plug tapping (only slytley) . Taken head off and all look clean no damage that l can see. I've put some rubber in the head finns and it has dulled the sound a bit but it's still thier.... lots of compresstion & it's quick....... Could it be little end? Any idea's Many thanks Martin

Just thought someone would like to see my last 6 months graft. What we have here is a Yamaha that started its life as a TY50 road bike, The only bit left is the rear brake plate as it points down not up. resto goes like this . blasted and stove enamelled frame and swinger SM tank and seat unit SM foot pegs SM rear brake lever clutch lightener original ty 80 clutch and brake levers ty handlebars Total enging and gearbox rebuild front fork rebuild inc bearings new chain and sprockets etc etc now ready to roll and is suprisingly fast due to high gearing and big wheels.

I just picked up a rough 1974 TY80 Yamaha. The following would help 1. Gas Tank Capacity 2. No spark, I have compression. I disconnected the kill switch wire to the handlebars, but still no spark. Other wiring appears to be intact. I haven't gotten into the sidecase for the points as yet. However, did the stock TY80 have a main ignition switch other than the kill switch on the handlebars? Thank you.

I am restoring a 1974 TY80 for my son. It's pretty much together, just a few small details here and there. I have referred on occasion to photos posted online and noticed something peculiar. On some bikes, I see the rear brake arm (on hub) pointing up so the brake rod would go over the top of the rear axle. On others, I see the arm facing downward so the brake rod would be positioned under the rear axle. Does anyone know which way is correct? Any thoughts or opinions on this? Thanks, Matthew

I have rebuilt my sons TY80 after the output shaft sheared. New shaft fitted and on with rebuild. I have 1 thing am not 100% sure on . Does the selector drum have to be in a certain position before putting the rest of build together ?? i presume it should be in neutral as i stripped it in neutral if correct but am not sure . please see last to pictures with different positions any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Aidan

Me and my dad recently acquired a old Ty80b, and after cleaning it up we are now stuck because we don't know what oil we should use and where to put it. The bike needs oil for the transmission, we *think* that we need to use 80w gear oil, but we don't know. Then their is a small oil tank that sits under the seat, and we don't know what to put in it. We can't tell what was in it originally, but in the transmission we found ATF fluid. I have asked around and their's no trend, so when I went to the internet everything there was also conflicting. So if you know, or have an idea on what I should use I'd love to hear it. Thank you.

Hi, what is the status of this Yamaha TYS250F that was being used in the WTC Japan round, see: Looks surely like the discontinued Scorpa 250F but why would current WTC contenders be using such an "old" machine? Or is Yamaha readying it for sale as a Yamaha now that Scorpa dropped Yamaha engines? Cheers, Fons. ----- Yamaha TY250Z Beamish RL325 Montesa 348 MR Honda TL250
