  2. Dear exalted shamans of mechanical knowledge and expertise, Thank you so much for all the insights and advice on this forum thus far. My little bike is coming on a treat thanks to you guys helping me learn how. So i was wondering, as the bike had been sitting for 30 years, is it fair to assume its a given that one must change the crank seals as a matter of course? They don't seem to be leaking and i did 'feetupfun's suggestion of measuring the oil and none had gone from the right side (i think my oily plug is telling me to be a little more sparing with the pre mix ratios)-but is it inevitable that its upcoming and i should muster up the courage and determi…

  3. I lowered the pegs on this bike a while ago and was not happy with the amount of free travel for the standard brake pedal once it was adjusted downwards to suit the new footpeg height. I made a couple of experiments first to make sure the shape was going to be right and finished the final product today. I'm getting the bike ready for a friend to ride at our upcoming state Twinshock Titles.

Hi I've just took my head off and cylinder to clean up so have decided to change the piston and rings as the gap on the rings is quite big. Question is I can't find what size the piston is I have measured the bore and it is 69.775 will a 70.00mm piston kit be fine for that? Any advise will be great thanks

  8. hello wonderful trials forum! so...another question from the newbie in brooklyn...thanks for all your help and patience so far ive been trying to practice front wheel hops and really having to work hard at it. now, im aware my technique is ***** and even trying to do these 'modern' things on an old twinshock requires a lot more effort and diligence than on a mono shock, but i pulled my fork springs again and measured them against the 400.5mm i have in my manual and they came up a wee bit short.. would this little difference have a big effect on the rebounding of the spring? i see i can get a new pair from b and j for $90 so happy to take a hit if need be…

Can anyone tell me how to get the spring in the correct place and loaded. The only place I can seem to get the spring loaded is in the first picture below but it should go through the hole at the bottom shouldn't it like in second picture?

I have been In touch with Yamaha to confirm in writing the year of manufacture for my 1974 ty250. They said that they can not supply the date of manufacture only the model year! Will this be enough for the dvla or will I need something else? Here is there reply.

Hello there, just acquired an old 1974 Yamaha TY250A Trials bike. I'm in the process of doing a complete frame off restoration. Does anyone know of where I can find a Left Hand crankcase cover preferably with "250" stamped into the side. I have found pretty much every part I need to do the rebuild but I can't for the life of me find a L.H. crankcase cover. please help!!! All the usual parts sources say "unavailable" when contacted, they say indefinitely until further notice. Not much help and I can't complete the build. Thanks

Hi, As part of my makeover of my TY175 I am going to paint the engine. The clutch release arm and spring are a little bit rusty and I was considering taking it out and having it zinc plated. As the clutch was replaced recently I do not want to remove that, is removing the release arm as simple as loosening the nut and screw on the left hand side of the crankcase and sliding it out? If so I am presuming the refitting is just the reverse process? Regards Mark

Hi all I have a 1977 ty250 that has a non original rear sprocket on it. As far as I can tell, when looking up part numbers, the original sprocket was a dished sprocket. The sprocket I have is flat non-dished. When i look at the alignment it is in line with the drive sprocket. the chain is straight and runs true. Any Ideas how this can be with a flat sprocket? There are no spacers on the front or rear sprockets.

Hi everyone I have recently brought a ty250a to refurb and register but I think the frame has been altered as the side panel and exhaust shield doesn't quite fit properly. Is there any reason for this to be done? Are there any standard frames to change to or any help will be great. Here's a Couple of pictures to explain what I mean

Before I go and spend a load of dosh on some Domino's - what levers do you guys recommend? I have these at the moment - but they don't feel right, lots of slop in the levers and the cable doesn't seem to run smooth in it (in any position) https://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_47644-Clutch-Lightening-Lever-Forged.html TIA

  20. Just picked up a 76 TY 175 and going through it to see what it needs. The airbox to carb boot has silicone covering a couple cracks so I would like to find one that is in better shape. Does anyone know of a source for these? I have done the usual searches on the search engines and also most all the vendors but nothing comes up for this application. The boot off a 77 TY 250 has the same size openings but is configured differently with different bends. Ebay has nothing that I see. Yamaha part # 525-14453-00-00 Thanks Sam
