Twinshock

  1. Started by thedktor,

On my 349 I need to replace the gearbox bearings, two of which are in blind holes.... I have been told to support the case, behind the bearing, heat the case, and jam in the heads of a couple of large nails under the bearing to lever it out. Anyone got any further tips? Thanks Steve

I'm riding 1970 Montesa Cota 247. I'm beginner and stating to compete in vintage trails events, meaning riding in woods. My bike has 10/48 sprockets set. The Cota manual indicate that the factory bike has 11/46 set. The difference is about 12%. But what does it mean? My main goal is to ride as slowly as I can in 1st gear and maintain smooth acceleration when needed. Does the 11/46 ratio is slower then 10/48? Should I changed back to the factory setting?

Hello people, This one might test the old dinosours (like me) out there. I have bought the above mentioned Gilera and was told it is about a 70-72 model trial/trail (I really don't know much about them). It has a four stroke motor, lights, electrics etc and I am wondering if anyone has any idea where spares can be obtained. I will try to post some photos once this camera of mine recharges its batteries, Thanks

Just started to build a 175 Majesty using a godden frame. The 175 motor slots straight in but the head stock is a different size to the standard 175 frame. Anybody know what bearings would fit to enable me to use the standard 175 front end? Open to any ideas on the solution, plus suggestions on exhaust systems. Thanks

Thought you might find this pic interesting. It is Clive Dobson (500t in the Talmag and Scottish) on the 4 stroke Gollner Kawasaki at Horsham clubs Presidents Cup at Plaistow early 80's. I believe only one was made that started off as yellow then became red, apparently the engine wsa pretty standard KL with some KT ratios modified to fit, nice bike tho'.

Does anyone know anything about the early development Suzuki prototypes of Gordon Farley? Or have any pics? There's one pic each in Don Morley's "Spanish Trials Bikes" & one of John Hulme's volumes of "20yrs of Twinshock Trials" & a couple more with a little info in another magazine on trials, but not much. Of the few pics there, most look like modified TS250 engine & prototype RL chassis, but one looks like its a SherpaT rolling chassis w RL engine & tank (said to be in 74). Its certainly a Bul front end. Also, an interesting bike has turned up in Canada: a Suzuki engined SherpaT (maybe Miller frame) with the interesting engine # TS-T-00001 Is Go…
