Twinshock

  1. Started by sir dabs alot,

I have heard that putting TY forks on a KT make a huge difference in the handling traits. I was wondering if switching the triple clamps would have a similar affect since they appear to have less offset or if the front wheel will eve line up. Anyone ever tried it???

Well, I dropped off my NOS RL 250 swingarm bushings with a friend to copy. I asked for a couple of sets in bronze and he asked if I also wanted any in aluminum....... never heard of this myself. Seems the bronze would be better for carry lubrication. Thoughts on this?

Does anyone know if the Montesa 242 cases are shared with any other Montesa model? If I want to get this bike going some day I will need to find a set. My cases have been "customized" to be nice. The bike wasn't running when I got it. I took the clutch cover off to fix the shifter spring and found the new bolts that don't belong. Thanks, Scott

Hi All I have a Cota 123, complete except for the piston which has a broken skirt. I can get an original part but I'll have the hassle of posting it here. Does anyone know of another (Japanese?) piston that might match? Thanks in advance. David in Johannesburg

Has any one on here had a juddering clutch problem on a Seeley? I know a common mod on TLRs is to fit CR80 plates and springs, is it the same on a Seeley? Or is there another mod? Also what is usable for the swingarm main bolt? as I noticed a mates bike had the wrong one in at a trial on sunday. Has any one found an alternative, or had one made? Thanks in advance

I would appreciate if anyone out there in twinshock cybercpace could help me with the following problem - if i had any hair i would be pulling it all out. I am in the final stages of my 348 (51m) rebuild and trying to make a new wiring loom. I have picked-up some relevant info from previous posts but nothing to help me connect all relevant wiring to a original "Loenelli" handelbar switch. Many thanks is advance.

Hello to all, Not sure where to ask this question, though twinshock seems to be the obvious place. I have an old Yam TY250 Twinshock, it`s not run since 1992. I started it as a project something to tinker with, put it to the back the shed and now I wish to have a play on it. I took the somewhat knackered chain off and i`ve thown it away without counting how many links that I need to replace it. 520 is what was on it, how many links do you think i`ll need...? Reading through a lot of posts i`ll not be buying Iris as it seems they snap, any other suggestion would be welcome. Circlip

Not sure iff this post is in the right forum but here goes. Bearing in mind my inexperience riding a trials bike im suffering from really bad handache after about 15 minutes and have to stop and rest them. I work in enginering so i consider myself to have reasonably strong hands but they are quite small and i find the levers quite a stretch. Are there any levers available that are adjustable for reach but still allow the same amount of cable travel ? Cheers Mark

Got loads of parts for the engine rebuild, and have a question about the crank seals. Where the crank bearings sit the shaft diameter is 25mm, and where the seals contact its slightly less, around 24.95mm, presumably to allow the bearing to slide on easier. The seal areas have now been ground down to 24.85mm The original seals were double-lipped (ie two opposite facing lips, with springs), and 25mm internal diameter. The new seals are single lipped and 24mm internal diameter

A friend of mine (no really!) has just bought an Ossa Gripper and is wondering whether there is a better carb to use than the standard Amal. Has anyone successfully fitted a Dellorto or anything else to a Gripper (250) and improved the carburation?

I never fail to be amazed at old well and often used bikes with hubs polished better than new. What is the trick, no matter what I try my hubs end up looking blotchy at best - there must be trick getting whatever you use into the grooves and between the spokes

Hello. Im coming to the end of building up my 247. Just needs little things like cables, chain and sprokets and a flippin mid section exhaust. Bought the bike as a basket case, but the guy I bought it from didn't have the mid exhaust. I've searched everywhere.... ebay, in motion, trials bits uk, miller products and a few more. Does anyone know where I can buy one new or used? thanks Dan

Howdo Guys. Lady luck was with me twice last week. After a few months of deciding what I was going to do with my pair of Dalesmans I got stuck in. One is going to be restored to original the other is going to get developed. I had a Dalesman when a kid for schoolboy scrambling and thought it was great, in later life and now into twinshock trialling everyone I speak to says they weren't very good for trialing, engine being to peaky with no bottom end at all. So I'm on a mission to make one work at trials. Good luck one, a mate asked me to put some brake shoes in his Seeley, on closer inspection they are identical to the Puch moped shoes fitted to the front end (well no…

Well after reading Michael's post about the swing arm bushings, it looks like my old beat up kt250 needs new ones, they are badly worn. If I did not want to bother with bronze or any special roller bearings, can they be replaced with the same type and design as the factory has? If so where do you obtain them?
