Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by pat slinn,

HI, Somebody out there must have a good tale or two regarding a boxing day trial, passed or present. Amusing, or a hard luck story, or both !. to kick off I'll start, I started up my C15 just to "check it out" on Christmas day afternoon in (I think) 1964. I knocked it into 1st gear and there was a "orrid" clunk, so I pulled the engine out of the frame took it into the warm kitchen at home at striped it and cured the problem. ( a tooth had fallen of a gear). My mom was not amused when I pushed the bike into the kitchen to fit the engine back into the frame, it had got very cold in the shed!, but she turned out as usual on boxing day with large flasks of hot coffee to …

Can anyone tell me what the timing (fully advanced) should be on a BSA B25? I can’t remember what I used to set it too! I’ve set it to 33° but not starting very well (seems ok when running but backfires when I close the throttle) its always been a good starter

Hi All, Project Bantam is coming along very slowly. I'm now looking for a 3rd Kickstart after the first 2 i made failed. I've seen several pre65 Banatms with spangly folding kickstarts (usually off other bikes). Anyone got any ideas as to what fits? I'm struggling to find a 3/4" splined version of anything Cheers Chris

  7. Started by eiger,

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise on rear shock absorber choice and length for a 1960 C15 trials bike, previously it had a strange rear subframe concoction but I've fitted a new rear subframe from Progressive Classic Products which is far more trials orientated and has also now allowed the exhaust to run inside the subframe without fouling the tyre. Any advice much appreciated, thanks. Pete.

Hi all, long story short, I’ve recently bought a tiger cub and I’m fixing a few minor issues on it. One of the issues is an oil leak from one of the rocker covers. I’ve looked into it and it seems like the engine is very early 1954, but am I right in thinking I have a square barrel and therefor a square barrel head? I will probably buy a full gasket set for the bike to fix the rocker cover oil leak. However if I buy a full gasket set based on a 1954 engine, will the gaskets be correct for the barrel and head? Thanks

I've unearthed a Villiers 11e engine from the back of the shed. I've been told it's likely to have come from an invilid car, but wanted to ask if these are any good as the basis for a trials bike? And if so, what are the best frame options?

Hi all any advise on fitting the later type primary inner and outer cases to a 32A ? Looking at it it seems you have to trim the crank case up with a dremel ? Got to be better than the massive rugby ball type case that's on there !! Would this make it in eligible for the Scottish p65 ? Your thoughts please Cheers

I've taken the plunge into the world of pre65 and I've got myself a tiger cub. It runs fine but has been sitting unused for a long time. It seems like a pretty honest, non trick, trials machine. But a few bits need recommissioning. The front forks are quite stiff with limited travel, so need looking at. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what they are from, that would help me massively with spares and servicing. Many thanks Sam

Hi I am sure this has been covered before but do any of you have any ideas where i can get some footrests c/w mounting plates for welding on or bolt on to an Otter frame kit for a B40 i will (hopefully) be receiving soon?? I seem to remember some chat recently about using some off a current trials bike but i cant remember which one or where they are obtainable from. How much would be nice too. I've looked at the Miller ones and Surrey Cycles and to be honest No too narrow. Would like a bigger area underfoot. If not i may just get some old Bultaco ones and make mountings up but would prefer to buy and fit soem already made up so that should they get damaged spares are ava…

  19. So FINALLY got me James frame in the shed Now i need to paint it Dont want to powder coat as i will need to modify, you know how it is, adding brackets taking away etc etc. Stove enameling is out too for the same reason. Wanted something i could brush paint so it is easy to touch up the rock damage thats the problem with living in Derbyshire. Also easy to repaint an area that gets damaged due to welding / modifying etc. Tried smoothrite in the past but the bonding qualities are hit and miss plus it seems to chip off at the first sign of a rock or tree interface moment so what does the panel recommend? Must be easy to brush on, cheap cos i'm now broke a…
