General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by trapezeartist,

I'm thinking of coming back to trials after a very long sabbatical. Having looked around this forum and hoovered up as much information as possible from other places, it's clear that it's a very different world to the one I left. So while on the lookout for a bike I'm trying to understand the maintenance implications: What is the correct interval for changing gearbox oil? What is the best way to clean/lube a chain? What sort of life should I expect from tyres/chain/wheel bearings/head bearings/brake pads and any other consumables? I've seen a few people quoting life in hours. How do you measure "hours" on a trials bike? What other frequent (or infrequent) maintenance…

Hello trialsforum! I'm from sweden and looking for a bike to be a part of this sport. in Sweden trial is a very small sport, especially at Clubman level. there are few who exercise trial, but they are elite. so there is no bikes to buy aside from new ones! but in the UK there are plenty of bikes to buy, I have sent e mail too a few but none of them seems to be interested in ship it and i do understand that but i still want to buy a bike though I've been in touch with Mark at BVM moto, terrific guy and for him there would be no problem to ship a bike. but he has no trials in my price range (2000£) unfortunately. so my question is if there is anyone here who has sh…

I had a lightbulb moment of nicking my sons lovely paioli forks off his Beta 80 for a pre 65 project, thinking they were 35mm. No they are 38mm. Doh! The question is are there 35mm Paioli's available and if so what were they fitted to, so i can start searching the E

A topic brought up on the Lakes 2 day thread was that some of the Clubman routes up greasy bankings etc. were harder than the waterfalls, steps etc that they are routed to avoid, but the flags are set so that the routes are totally seperate. I've noticed that trials in the North of England are the same. At the Reeth 3 day 2 years ago I watched about 40 clubmen 3 or 5 a section ( Tank Trap? ) with a grassy camber avoiding a couple of rock steps which I'm sure some of them could have cleaned had the flags been set so they could go either way. At quite a number of Scottish club and national events, the flags are set so that the left and right markers are at the extremitie…

Hi I've been riding road bikes for many years and have also been green laning for quiet a few too. I am looking to have a go at Trials riding but dont have a clue where to start, so thought this would be a good starting point. I am looking to do this just for pleasure and am not really looking to enter loads of competion events, although a few events a year would be fun, so my questions are: Being a bit of a big lump (16st) what would be a good starter bike that will be fairly reliable and not cost the earth e.g 125, 250 ? 4T, 2T, any sugested models to look for ? Are there any schools in the UK that run courses that can teach me the basics of machine control, and…

  16. Hello...I've had a couple Gas Gas bikes...mostly older, my abilities are growing and I just sold my 06 Raga 300. I've found, not anywhere close to me, a couple bikes...one a 2012 txt 300 pro which is in the price range (3's) but a literal day drive away...then a 2019 Gas Gas 300txt racing...which is close to 2k more in asking price and in the 5's. My question is this....for a bike I want to ride and grow with is the minty 2019 THAT much better than the really really nice shape 2012 as far as performance and bike for the money. Past about 06 my GasGas lineup knowledge is murky at best. Thanks for the help....btw...if someone has a nice bike in the Northern I…

Found this on a trials site thought it worth sharing just for the music, nice to find a trials school that really takes entry level riders. http://www.planetetrial.com/articles.php?lng=fr&pg=21194

  20. Hi All, I am wondering if anyone has a workshop manual and wiring diagram for a 2004 Gas Gas TXT Pro 250 ? I have just brought the bike and want to do some upgrades and maintenance on it. I also want to replace the kill switch with a magnet strap one as it currently has a push button kill switch, so any advice and recommendations on the best/easiest one to fit would be a great help . Cheers Luke
