Hi, Had to pass on something cool I have just discovered. The JR50 comes from the store as a one speed centrifugal clutch with too high gearing to climb even a moderate slope. However - if you pull off the right side cover and grind some blanking material from the selector you can open up a low ratio gear ! This gear is really low and makes a superb trials gear. ( It's selected by lifting the lever - and the original gear by going down. ) This was great news for me as my boy has been struggling with his KDX lack of grunt - and I really didn't want to have to get a small wheel trials bike - I want his next one to have big wheels and a clutch. ( He'…

Two of America's best in trials is up for the American Motorcyclist Association awards. Both have contributed in trials growth for the United States. Congratulations, Geoff and Shan. It's a shame they left Louise Forsley off this list, Louise is The AMA Youth Sports Athlete of the year in my book. I sent in Trials Central as a nomination for best website, I guess they don't include foreigners. The fact that the server is in the United States should count for something, huh Andy? The nominees are:

I would like to inform you that after being here in US since 1998, I am going back to Europe. I have accepted a work offer from Gas Gas Spain to move back home and start working as a sales manager for northern Europe. I have worked with Gas Gas USA for the past 6 years and I would really like to thank them for the opportunity they have given me.These past six years have been unforgetable and I feel very fortunate to be able to travel in the USA and meet many great people. I'd like to thank Dale at Gasgas USA, Juan at Gasgas of America, Jim at Rising sun, Daryl at Stunttours, Dan at TTC, Jon at Classic and everyone else who has helped me along the way.Without their help, …

Was thinking about the growth of trials a bit, and was thinking about the arguments about why trials does not grow, and the comparison between MX and Trials, and the recent explosion of the X type or freestyle type riding. Commonly it is said that Trials does not have the thrill of MX with the close finishes and the race to the wire which makes it more of a spectator friendly sport. We do not have that, and will not really. But what if instead of looking at MX, we look at Hare Scrambles or Enduro. At least in my area, they are immensley popular and well attended. They do not have the "finish" nor are they very spectator friendly, matter of fact, they are really more …

As a minder for the US team this year, just wanted to give info on what went on, it was a real dissapointment. The team was signed up to ride in the A class. The reason was the TDN has eased up in severity of the sections since 00, last year in Italy was just way easy in B, and with Geoff at his very best, same with Cody, Chris, and Ray, the thought was this was the time to do it. While walking the sections Friday, the first group of six were just insane, dangerous looking, jagged edged type blasts with virtually no run at that even Raga and Lampkin were complaining about, so the team dropped back to B, a very wise decision, as Vesty told us later, all the teams except …

Barry Florin of the FTA forwarded the thought last year, and it has probably been thought of in the past,,,, But here it is again, and now is the time to put it in place for the 05 season. Let's put together an East coast US series. Lets string it together from well established club events that are popular and well attended and have good facilities. Let's work to get some sponsorship in place for it to help it, and those events along. With some cooperation, and a minimum of adjustment on very few folks parts, I believe we could do it readily. The goal would be to assit the folks that are trying to make the transition from club level rider to National level rider …

Hello folks, it is time for many of us to start thinking about what will come up at the year end meetings, and laying the groundwork for what will come in the 05 season. While many of us have different views, most of us have a common bond in trials that is seldom seen in other sports or activities. And while we recognize that part of that bond comes from the exclusivity of trials, most of us wish that our sport would grow and prosper a bit, probably not to the point of the x-games and MX, but at least to the point where folks recognized the bikes and the name of the sport associated with them. Here are a couple of thoughts, that I feel should be presented to folks for …

I had an opportunity to ride with 2 youngsters who participated in the TTC youth nationals and training week. You could see the improved riding technique and confidence of these boys. A tip of my hat to the TTC and all who made it possible. Your efforts are already bearing fruit, and will go a long ways towards developing a solid base of riders in the future.
