Hi all, watch out for the highlites from the Tennessee nationals next Tuesday night (April 13) at 8PM EDT on Speed Channel. I spent most of last Saturday at the nationals escorting BJ and Morris the camera man around to some good photo spots and they were quite enthusiastic about the stuff they got. I hope we get some good coverage so be on the look out for it. BJ is new at Speed, having done a few features on Motoworld a while back. I remember when Greg White came up in 2000 for the nationals, he was the young guy learning the ropes from Dave Despain. It is good to get the TV guys interested in showing trials stuff. Thanks to all from the STRA and elsewhere (we ha…

I'm looking at a parts bike for my son. Problem is it's near Toronto. Is there any one coming to Tn for the Nationals that would be willing to bring it. Let me know a price so that I can decide whether it will be worth while. Thanks, Brian

Hello everybody, I just confirmed with Tommi Ahvala that he'll be the special guest on the 2-wheel Tuesday show on Speed Channel next Tuesday night, March 23. I think it will air at 8PM Eastern (7 Central). They'll talk about the upcoming season of Trials and trials things in general, Tommi may do some tricks, and I expect they'll show some more footage from Greg's visit up to TTC a while back. So, heads up, & set your VCR for your poor slob buddies who don't get Speed Channel! I think we'll get coverage of the upcoming nationals, starting with the opening rounds at the Trials Training Center in Tennessee on April 3 & 4. -dan brown

Just a question to think about a bit. I am wondering how important we US trials riders feel it is to send a team to the TDN each year. Myself, I have not decided but I will explain a little bit of why I wonder. I dont know the shape of other clubs in the US but we here in D4 are struggling a bit. We were down by 40 plus riders most of the season. Our funds are getting low to the point that we have not seen since the mid 90s. We are looking at ways to cut costs and bring in a bit of operating cash to keep the club running. The next thing I wonder is what good really comes of us being at the TDN. No riders that we are sending can compete with the top riders in the world …

Will be teaching my grandson the basics on his new 125 soon and was trying to figure out what the most important things to teach him are. Obviously there are many, but I think one of the most important things is to remember that turning is done best by using foot pressure. How about some input from everybody on the other main things to pass along. Thanks

On Monday, March 29th, following the Trials Training Days at TTC, there will be a fundraiser fun trial for the TDN Team. It will be styled as a PRO/AM Team Trial using the "Gatetrial" scoring method. There will be several teams captained by the top PRO's who will then choose their team. The team with the MOST points win! This has been done at TTC in the past during trials bike week and is alot of fun. A minimum contribution of $25/rider is the entry fee with all the proceeds going to the USA TDN Team. So plan on staying at TTC past the RYP sponsored Training Days to do this event. There will also be other events scheduled during the week prior to the TENNESSEE NATI…

Just a reminder that the “Trials Training Days” is coming up March 27-28 at TTC. The deadline for pre-registration is MARCH 15. If you’re planning on attending, go to and fill out the on-line registration form and follow the submission directions. It should be a great weekend of “Round Robin” type training clinics taught by the majority of the U.S. PRO Riders. A BBQ Dinner is being provided for everyone on Saturday evening. We’re also hosting a USA Trials des Nations fundraiser on Monday, March 29. It will be a PRO/AM Team Trial using the “Gatetrial” scoring method, with all proceeds going to the TDN team. We’ve done this during Trials Bike Week before and it is …

Here are results from the Champ class from day 1 of the Fun-n-Sun annual trial in Florida, as reported from Charlie Roberts & the gang from the Trials Training Center. Point totals are approximate, from memory. I'm sure Barry Florin will provide a full report when the smoke clears. 1. Bruce LeRiche 9 2. Chris Florin 11 3. Ray Peters 11 4. Brent LeRiche 14 5. David Chavez 17 6. Travis Fox 20-something? The top 4 riders are all sponsored by the Trials Training Center, and all the top 6 have been practicing with us this winter (so 'scuse me for braggin). Looks like the LeRiche boys from South Africa will be very competitive this year! And Charlie said Bre…

I have a 6' tall fuel drum, would like to cut into, I have a plasma cutter but wondering how to go at this? The drum was used for house fuel. I was told stand it on end, have a hole at the bottom and one at the top, which it does, and then pipe car exhaust into the drum, fill it up and It would be safe for cutting? Or should I fill it half with water, then pipe in some exhaust. Maybe I should abort the whole mission and job it out. Input would be appreciated! Thanks, sam

Some of us may travel as much as 3000 miles to reach an event, so read this! A pretty simple plan to take the power back. I'm in. Read on....Subject: GAS WAR! Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a…

I believe that I want AVID cable operated discs, and a down hill 20mm "thru hub" I think it is called laced to a 20" wheel. Gaby, can you help me do this cheaply? Yes, I am cheap. Or anyone else, or questions, suggestions or comments appreciated. Thanks.

Over the years I've attended several trials schools, lasting up to two days. My instructors have included Tommy Ahvala, Ray Peters, Ryan Young, Curt Comer, just to name a few. I still can't ride evry well, but that's another post. Here's my topic for discussion: Who do you think is the best trials riding teacher? Obviously, everyone learns differently, but, who helped you the most among those who have held schools? My nod goes to Ryan Young. I felt he was superb in translating, what he does so effortlessly, into words and actions that I could relate to.
