Hello, I am a 59 year old that has ridden motorcycles for years. I had a 1986 Honda TLR200 Reflex and a 1997 Gas Gas Contact 200. I would like to get into riding very easy trials type riding in the woods around my house, not competing. Used trials bikes in my area of Northern Indiana are hard to find and I would like to start tinkering around in the woods asap as this COVID-19 stay at home order is driving me nuts. There are two within 90 minutes of my home. One is a 1975 Yamaha TY175 ($1,400) and the other is a 1974 Suzuki RL250 ($1,000). Both seem to be in the same shape. My question is which one do you think would be the better bike for me?…

For those of you that may not be aware, American Dennis Sweeten is the lone US rider at the SSDT this year. Dennis got off to a rough start on Monday and was out of the top 100, but has since pulled himself into the top 50. Wednesday he had a very respectable 18 point day. Dennis owns Apex Sports in Oregon and is the Montesa parts distributor for the US. http://www.trialscentral.com/cms/showartic...p?articleID=409 Martin Belair US Montesa

Hello folks, it is time for many of us to start thinking about what will come up at the year end meetings, and laying the groundwork for what will come in the 05 season. While many of us have different views, most of us have a common bond in trials that is seldom seen in other sports or activities. And while we recognize that part of that bond comes from the exclusivity of trials, most of us wish that our sport would grow and prosper a bit, probably not to the point of the x-games and MX, but at least to the point where folks recognized the bikes and the name of the sport associated with them. Here are a couple of thoughts, that I feel should be presented to folks for …

Since I have been busy building yet another Hodaka trials bike, I am thinking a bit lately about my first trials event. It was spring of 1972 and I was an awkward 13 year old. I had just recently gotten my first trials bike, a 1964 Hodaka Ace 90 trials special, which had been built by Whitey Hartman. Though I had been riding my little Honda mini Trail 50 for about one year, I had never ridden any sort of trials bike. The lowly Hodaka had been in the hands of at least two owners since my Uncle Whitey had built a trials bike out of it, and it was quite a bit worse off by the time I ended up with it. The poor thing had a badly bent frame and seemed to leak oil and goo from…

Hi Gang, have been quite a bit here as of late, we have been tremendously busy in all areas of my life, and just have not taken the time to write and let others know what is going on. But I realize as I am speaking to folks here at the YN camp how important these communications are. For those of you that are not here too meet face to face, I cannot tell you enough how much you are missing. The YN truly brings out the things that are the best in Trials too me. We came in Sunday afternoon and have just been going a mile a minute since then. Sunday afternoon we had the ice cream social get together, I got to meet uncle Charlie and son Zach finally, saw the Commo's the …

I think the date change for the youth nationals west is a good move, I wasn't going to go because of the 2000 mi it added to the trip if you rode the adult events in Colorado and California, then go back out to catch the youth event. "NEWS-- From Bill Markham----Western Youth National date change--the W/Y/Nationals dates have been change to 17-18-19 JULY -- This way any one coming form the west coast will not have to make two trips if they are coming to both the Youth National at Las Vegas, NV and the CO National which is July 24 & 25." Now I can take the kids out to New Mexico, and also catch the adult events on the drive back

I was a spectator both days and was VERY impressed with the European Youth riders on their 125's. They made most of our Expert riders look really bad. It was almost embarrassing. Here are their scores from Sunday: YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL RESULTS 1. Alexz Wigg - 34 2. Loris Gubian - 36 2. Matteo Grattarola - 43 4. Sam Haslam - 46 5. Lee Sampson - 51 6. Alfredo Gomez - 64 7. Ross Danby - 70 8. Nicolas Karim - 71 9. Robert Andrews - 80 10. Christian Kregeloh - 91 11. Alexis Roscapana - 105 Here are the top three US Experts scores: Ray Peters - 96 Will Ibsen - 105 Sean Bird - 109 They rode the same "green" lines. Ray and Sean as well as Travis Fox who fai…

Youth Event Thoughts Just wanted to take a moment and write down some of my thoughts and observations about Youth Trials events. Consistency is the biggest thing I can suggest. If people automatically know that there will be a Youth Event at every trials, your
