The TL 320 I recently purchased has no rear brake stay. The only thing that keeps the brake backing plate from rotating is the torque from the axle shaft nut. There don't appear to be any bolt holes indicating that a stay is missing, so I'm inclined to think that this is the way it was designed. Because every other bike I own has some sort of a stay to keep the backing plate stationary, the lack of such a stay on the SWM gives me concern. Is the torque on the axle shaft really the only way the backing plate stays in place? I also ask because I have some sort of drag on my rear wheel, and I wonder whether the extreme tightness of the axle shaft is causing the drag. Any t…

I don't need any convincing on the benefits of coppa slip, however, should it be used on Rotax motors? Will the motor act as a sacrificial anode ?

I have some problems getting my carb / engine adjusted proper, I have not so much experience with the SWM and with the standard setup of the bike. When I got the bike it runned poor (coming from the alpes), the bike runned good in the middle but poor between idle and and mid throttel. Any fiddling at the air screw did not really help. I then changed the main jet to 100 now got good low to mid throttle but the bike is going lean, I believe. Here a pic of the plug after 20 min to half hour of trail riding, (not trials riding), engine got quite hot I believe: I adjusted the air screw slightly richer as I di not had any jets with me and went on with trials riding, it w…

This subject was raised some some three years ago and to be fair opinions shared. Given the time frame I wondered if these we still valid. I have a red and white Guanaco with the mazocchi set up. Whilst its alright, they do tend to be very soft even after changing and playing with the springs. I have a nice pair of late betors including yokes / tete de fourche and my French guru is trying to convince me to go down this route. Some mentioned on the previous thread that all the works bikes had married the Mazocchi yokes to betor forks and I have since seen this recently on a very nicely prepared Belgium bike of Michel Gossiaux, again his name was mentioned in the previou…

Hi All, I just bought a 1982 TL320, and would like to change the fluids. I searched the web, but wasn't able to find the info. So the question is, how much oil for the gearbox; and how much oil for the Betor forks? Thanks.

Just went out for a ride with my TL.NW 320 yesterday and the bike "performend" very well. But there is one problem I believe I have, the rear shocks - still the Girlings - are let's call it very soft, they have a little bit too much sag I believe, (and my weight is 70kg). They a superb for small bumps and absorbing well but I have noticrd that they lack progression. So I have now two possibilities: #1 Repair the Girlings, any Idea who can do this? #1.1 Repair the Girlings which will take weeks or months and additional get a replacement #2 Replace the shocks. There are two brands that came up to my mind here: the Falcons and the NJB Trixshocks, but which one to ch…

After all the help you lot have provided, I thought you all deserve to see some photos of an SWM on its maiden voyage on the Slickrock trail near Moab, in the desert of southeastern Utah. I spent a long weekend there, riding the TL320 on Slickrock and Hell's Revenge trails. Slickrock is a single-track trail (bicycles and motocycles only) about 12 miles long, about ninety percent solid sandstone, and ten percent loose sand. It is a very fun place to play, and to practice riding obstacles. There is no real visible trail, so volunteers mark the rock surface with white lines every ten to thirty feet so you can stay on the trail. The white lines make for an interesting "sectio…

Well I couldn't remember when I removing the clutch basket this morning if the nut was RHT or LHT, googling didn't help and as the basket revolved clockwise I thought well it would be LHT....wouldn't it? But before I got my windy (well main'sy) on the bugger and had an exploding first motion shaft (or would that be input shaft?) I thought I'd better get on the blower to the font of everything 'Speedy Working Motor', his Holyness and the Right Reverend Mr Matthews. Martin confirmed that the thread was indeed RHT and that are no 'trick' threads on an SWM...so hopefully the next person with the same problem will hit google and find this thread and think ahh that wa…

Any ideas on how to break my SWM 240s countershaft sprocket nut. Penetrating oil is doing nothing. I stuffed a block of wood between the rear wheel and swingarm, sat on the rear tire, applied heat with mapping gas to the nut, and had a breaker bar with a long pipe on top of it and the nut won't move. The chain is still attatched and another block of wood is behind the rear tire and it just spins the rear wheel. I can't see the nut being reverse threaded. I haven't heated the nut cherry red. I think it will hurt the countershaft itself. My impact gun isn't doing half of what the breaker bar is doing. Any ideas?
