Newbie here! I've just bought back a 320TL I had 25 years ago and as well as having a bit of fun on it I'm hoping to restore it back to something like it should be (I've already ordered a list of stuff from Martin for a kick off). The main question I have just now is frame colour. The bike is 1978 and was registered with the DVLA in November that year. The frame and engine seem to have been spray painted a very dark brown that looks like black at first glance but underneath is what I assume to be the original black. There is absolutely no hint of there ever being red on the frame. I have seen images online of a very early SWM 320TL brochure where the bike …

I have just had the axle dismounted - damn, it was a bit of a job getting in again. had to loosen the whole engine! Now it is cleaned from grease, and re-greased. The holes for the grease pump is cleaned. How much do I tighten the axle? If i tighten too much it get stuck. I have tightened it so that it can move just freely. So my questions are: 1) How much shall it be tightened? Is there an exact torque value or is it just by feeling? 2) Is there a drawing, picture or a spares fice somewhere on WWW so I can see how the swinger bearings are build up?

(No, not that sort) Any information on the modifications that quite a few SWM's seem to sport ? Are they all home grown, or is someone making them. What are the advantages ? The following picture is from the "CampoCanavese2012" (thanks Mike) Ross (Dannilo Galeazzi's bike)

  6. Hello I hads some problems getting the front axle off my SWM TL.NW. I just wanted to inspect the front brake as I want to ho to the alpes with the bike and when going downhill good brakes are a must. I could not get out the axle as the speedo drive did not move anywhere, all bolts and nuts where removed! It ended like this that I jacked up the bike really high and pulled the hole front end out (with the stanchions!). This worked very well and I could dismantle the front rear. But agian did not had any possibilitiy to remove the speedo drive, I discoverd (I could not measure that the axle has a notch! and the speedo sits in this notch, so the axle must be made out of …

After looking around for a good while for a replacement exhaust manifold for my 81 TL320NW, I found that most of what was on offer was in worse condition to the one I wanted to replace. Then a notification popped up on FB for some new stainless ones on offer. I ordered one, it arrived yesterday, I fitted it today, perfect.

I have recently replaced the crank seals and also the large O ring on the disk valve cover but engine oil still seems to be getting through into the cylinder. Bike smokes a fair bit as a result. Does anybody have any ideas of what else I can do to stop the engine oil getting through?

In 1980 I bought a new 320 TL, rode for several years, left for a year in OZ and sold bike to a friend. Came back he had sold it and I could not find it again....wanted it back. But it was just 15 mins from me so I clicked on the link. Wow looked like my old bike, more I looked at it more it looked like it. About 12 hours left on the aucti…

Hi Guys, I noticed that the shocks are not parallel - the top being narrower. Based on the theory that this will put some side load on the shock pistons I was thinking NJBs might be the go? Any thoughts? Has anybody retrofitted any brand with heim style bearings aka last model of Husky twin shocks? Also can anybody recommend a supplier of betor springs - 98kgs c-d grade ability ? This site has springs, seals and dust covers as a deal - Betor kit. Any advice welcomed.
