I have an '82 240 and am doing maintenance during the pause in our riding season. I've had several people tell me that it's important to cut the pipe open and replace the internal packing. I don't have a problem doing the work but I can't get anyone to tell why it needs to be done. I understand why I need to repack the muffler but the pipe makes no sense. I can push a piece of tubing clear through. Anyone have an explanation?

  4. It's a topic that has come up before, but there was no definitive answer in a previous thread. The problem - completely removing / refitting the exhaust system on a Fantic 240. The dilemma has occurred after reaching the glorious final stages of a resto' project, and after reassembling the bike, with the engine bolted back in place, and the carb' & all the rubbers wrestled back in to place only to find that the immaculately painted exhaust ain't going to be neatly slipping through them tight gaps even with a lot of banging and metal on metal contact. So, has anyone come up with the most effective way to take off and / or fit an exhaust system to an assembled bike…

I have a Fantic trials bike, thought to be 80cc and from 1988. The frame reads DGM 52778 and the underside of the fuel tank reads 2937-88. From reading up and looking through pictures i believe it to be a 303 but I'm no expert and am looking for some insight if possible. I'd also love to know what this thing is worth. Thank you!

  6. I'm looking at needing a new piston / ring for my Fantic 240. It's a 1984 model, and I'm the second owner of the bike which I've had since 1987, so I don't know its history in its first three years of its life. Looking at the piston fitted I see it had markings on it '3P' and 'D'. And the inner of the piston has Fantic Motor moulded in it, so that might suggest it's not an after-market piston. (Research suggests Mahle produced the pistons for the Fantic factory, so whether they then moulded them with Fantic Motor within I'm uncertain). Has anyone any knowledge of how an original piston for the 240 was marked? I know that after-market pistons are marked in overbore si…

Any body have an alternative to the side panel grommets on the Fantic's? I found some over in France but to get 6 the cost was up around £35 including postage.

Can someone help ? I have a Fantic 200 that needs kicking what seems like 50 times to start, and the same when it stops. I have checked fuel & air items, cleaned the carb and all seem good. I have replaced the HT lead and plug. The ignition system is standard as from the factory so getting on a bit. I have measured accross the wires coming from the LT to the HT coil as follows with a multimeter set on 2000 ohms. Green to black measures 043 ohms and the red to black measures 655 ohms. Does anyone know if this is correct, I don't want to spend £300 on replacing it all if I don't have to ?

A long shot but just wondering if the above bike is still about or owned by anyone on here. It was my first trial bike that I bought off Carl Baker and rode in Manchester 17, Macc & Hyde trials in the very early 80’s. TIA.

Hi, Has anyone found new isolation rubbers for the exhaust mountings. I can't find anything close on the web. My current ones are made up off two flanged rubber washers and a central steel tube. If I can't find any I'm thinking I might have to make some. Shock mountings are close but the frame tube is 20mm I/d and the shock mountings all seem around 23mm. Cheers.

Hey guys! I'm the proud new owner of a 240- I need to mount a tether kill switch in order to compete in some of the events near me- Just wondering where is the best place to connect the non-ground wire for the tether switch, and what color/s the original kill switch wires are? Mucho appreciated in advance! Cheers, Jeff

Can anyone advise. Im after as much information as possible on the bike I am restoring. I know it is a Fantic 200 FM350 but any additional info would be welcome. The chassis number is DGM 19461 OM also Fantic 350 stamped along side the chassis number, engine number 0001620 and the date stamp under the tank is 1979-9 What I would like to find out if possible are all the numbers matching and its date of manufacture. I bought the bike as a non runner with a box of bits. Thanks in advance

Anyone found a smaller back sprocket than standard (53) that would be more suitable for some road use. I marshal for the SSDT at times and thinking of using my Fantic instead of the normal BMW gs! I do manage to get the gs in some daft places but the fantic would be more suitable. I just don't want to be revving the nuts off it on some of the longer road sections.

Hi all. Just getting round to reassembling my mid 80s 240. One problem it does have is I think the spring has gone on the gear lever - as in, it can select all gears but doesn’t return to the central position. Big job to sort and has anyone got any experience of this? Thanks, Alan.
