Aprilia

  1. Started by speedmd,

Hi all. New here and looking for some help finding ignition parts for a older bike. Its a 1993 Aprilia 280 climber and the young one purchased it with no spark. I told him to make sure parts were still available before pulling the trigger. Unfortunately, , most all of the links showing spare parts were zombie ads and looking like I may need to help adapt a workaround for him if we are not able to find a drop in replacement for the CDI. The original stator coil that powers the CDI was rotten-open so we rewound it and it is generating good voltage now, the pickup is checking out also but still no spark so a CDI is also looks to be in need of replacement. Not finding…

My 93 Climber 280 kicks back bad. I thought I was going to break the Kickstarter or my foot. I ended up bruising the bottom of my foot in our last vintage trials. I was hoping it was just a sheared flywheel key. I took it apart felt like the main bearing was loose. Took some effort but I managed to get the flywheel off. Main bearing was tight. Someone put locktite on the crank/flywheel. I cleaned that off. I should have lapped it but was in a hurry. Put it back together. It's tight now. I checked the stator and all screws were tight. Didn't look like it had moved. I put it back together and it's still doing the kick back. I tried both feet, tried when cold, when warm and …

I've acquired an Aprilia Climber. It's a 280, a 1993 model. Tommy Ahvala won the world title in 1992. So this is the replica, celebrating the Italian manufacturer's world championship victory. I fitted a Paioli RSD fork while waiting for the original Foral to be restored. It looks really nice. I spent a lot of time on the Foral fork. Bertrand Quartier had warned me about the rather poor quality of this component. Indeed, it's not great. Furthermore, a previous disassembly by someone less experienced had damaged the hydraulic system. I repaired it to get it working again. The fork was binding badly. The friction bushi…

I just picked up a 93 Aprillia Climber last night. It’s in good original condition. Just needs some maintenance. It came with a lot of new and extra parts. I need to weld the tab for the rear fender mount. I noticed the swingarm is a little loose. Anyone know the bearing sizes or if there is a bearing, sleeve and seal kit for the swingarm?

Hi, I'm looking for the air filter manifold for Aprilia TXR 312, I can't find anything for sale, do you know where to find it? It would also be useful to have a spare parts catalog or exploded views, do you know where to download it? Thanks

I recently picked up a TX311 frame, exhaust, rear suspension etc. I just bought a TXR312 last night in need of a lot of work. What are the differences between the two models (besides rear brake and shock)? The frames look similar except for extra tabs on the 312 for shock, extra mount on mid muffler. On my 312 the shock is leaking oil, bearings are bad. Has wrong muffler. The 311 swingarm, shock, suspension bearings, frame, exhaust are all good. Thanks

I’m working on a 1993 Climber that has a tubeless rear wheel. The tire I received with the bike is tube type. Can I use this tire with tube? Would probably have to use a rim lock. Or should I buy a tubeless tire and valve stem or tube? Thanks

Looking at getting a 93 Aprilia 280R Climber. Are there any flywheel weights available or will I need to machine something? How is the parts availability? I had a 92 and liked it a lot!

I bought a Climber clutch casing a while back at a jumble sale. I've only just opened the package and found that there is one vital part missing. It is the short rod which sits in the middle of the cover and pushes on the pressure plate when the clutch is actuated. What I need are the dimensions and then get one or two made. Many thanks in advance, Phil

HI All, Does anyone know how to remove the flywheel on the Hiro engine. It seems to be in two parts. Does it need a special puller? I am trying to get to see the ignition system to see if it is set correctly, which leads to me next question. How do you set it?? Thks Bruce

Hello all, Although I've been messing around on a TY80 then an '81 Cota 349 since I was a nipper I've only just decided to get into competitions. I sent my membership to the Knock M.C.C over here in N. Ireland, bought some cheap kit off eBay ( new, but cheap..) and finally got meself a '93 Aprilia Climber 280R. I've trawled though this forum and NO-ONE seems to mention this bike. It is in great condition and in the two weeks I've had it it seems to pull like a train ( I weigh an even 18st - rugby player, not a completely fat B*****d. .). However, it seem that they weren't that popular as there sod all on the web about them. So, does anyone have any opinions / tech …

Does anyone out there know what jetting there running in the Dellorto carb. I've got a 85 main and bike seems to load up and run rich over half throttle. Have gone thru carb, and have points and timing set correctly. Bike starts first kick runs great on bottom but loads up when you need to ring it out on a uphill section. Plug is dark. Just don't want to burn up the motor.

I recently got this climber 280. I'm told its a 91 or 92 but I cannot find any vin decoder to verify that. Can anyone familiar with them tell from the pictures what year it range it is? I'm doing a full fluids swap on it as its been sitting for about 2 years. What gear oil should viscosity should I be using? From my research I've just found people saying a wet clutch compatible oil but cannot find any specifics on the weight. It also looks like the forks are collapsed, I haven't had a chance to tear into them yet to see if anything is broken but wanted to throw it out there to see if anyone has run into something like this in the past before I go in blind. Any…
