I must be a sucker for an old dog. Recently got my 290 Sherco bucket of bolts going and I've come across a 1992 280 Aprillia climber that needs a bit of TLC. It starts and runs but only on the choke. I've cleaned out the carb, swilled out the tank and put fresh premix in. The carb and airbox rubbers are sealed tight and it's got a new plug BP5es. I should say the bike has stood for a long while. Any ideas from the good people of TC?

Hi I am new to this, Last time I rode a trails bike was 1972, I found a nice old Aprilia 311 in good shape. Just a few questions to start, What fuel mix should I run in the bike? Is there anyplace in the Us that has any parts? I started it on a 50 to 1 mix seemed to run ritch, but everything seemed fine. There is also a engine compression adjustment device on the front of the engine, I have never seen one? Thanks for the help, Mark

Does anyone out there know what jetting there running in the Dellorto carb. I've got a 85 main and bike seems to load up and run rich over half throttle. Have gone thru carb, and have points and timing set correctly. Bike starts first kick runs great on bottom but loads up when you need to ring it out on a uphill section. Plug is dark. Just don't want to burn up the motor.

The Marzocchi "Duo-Shock" on my bike works as a great spring retainer...but little else. I was told this shock was the same as the Marzocchi on the Fantic 305, but it isn't. Different lengths (Fantic is longer) and different bottom mount (clevis type on the Aprilia.) I can't find a Marzocchi part number for the shock so I can't search for a rebuild kit. Checked with Mike at the Tryals Shop and he has no rebuild kits or shocks in stock. Anybody know where you can buy a rebuild kit for it? I have at least a couple of shops locally who can install it and charge the shock. Alternatively...anybody know of a replacement shock manufacturer? I've seen some "Wilber…

my rear pads are getting thin and my local bike shop (non-trials ) is having a hard time matching a replacement for the Galfer 1805gf that I took out. If you have a source for manufacturer and part #'s that would be great . Also are there different compounds available and what would their characteristics be? many thanks

I've just bought a 1990 240 climber. The previous owner had a "throttle stuck open" moment before a tumble. He can't recall hooking the cable,is this a fault with a secondhand model? I'd also like to obtain a manual and spares in UK,is there a good dealer for these older bikes? Thanks

Ok, continuing from my previous post. Thanks to a top man on this very here TC, I've got myself a left side crankcase (Cheers Ross). My question is about setting the disc valve timing. Where does the valve sit in relation to TDC and which way round does it sit? Never been into a disc valve motor before. Cheers Graeme

Does anyone have or know where to find the diagrams for the chassis parts diagrams. I have the engine diagrams, but can't seem to find the chassis. I did find a 86TX311 but there are too many differences.

Hello everyone! Im new to this forum but excited to join. I'm planning on putting a new con rod bottom bearing into my 92' climber, but i have a few questions to those who are familiar with the bike. Looking to confirm some questions as well! thanks for any and all tips and information! much appreciated 1. Whats the best way to get the clutch nut off? the just spins freely with the screw mounts behind the pressure plate. It's on there good.. will a vice grip clutch tool do the job? 2. What are the measurements for the flywheel puller? 3. Anyone know the measurements or size for the bottom connecting rod bearing? i know the top, just not the bottom one. …

I just picked up a 93 Aprillia Climber last night. It’s in good original condition. Just needs some maintenance. It came with a lot of new and extra parts. I need to weld the tab for the rear fender mount. I noticed the swingarm is a little loose. Anyone know the bearing sizes or if there is a bearing, sleeve and seal kit for the swingarm?

My 93 Climber 280 kicks back bad. I thought I was going to break the Kickstarter or my foot. I ended up bruising the bottom of my foot in our last vintage trials. I was hoping it was just a sheared flywheel key. I took it apart felt like the main bearing was loose. Took some effort but I managed to get the flywheel off. Main bearing was tight. Someone put locktite on the crank/flywheel. I cleaned that off. I should have lapped it but was in a hurry. Put it back together. It's tight now. I checked the stator and all screws were tight. Didn't look like it had moved. I put it back together and it's still doing the kick back. I tried both feet, tried when cold, when warm and …

Hi all I have two Climber 240 (91 and 92) in Japan. I am in the middle of my change the front fork oil project. I have some questions. 1. Oil level measurement (mm?) from the top of fork edge? 2. How much does each fork needs the oil (Aprilia manufacturer’s recommended ) 3. Recommended degree of viscosity. (or fork oil model number・part number) I don’t have a service manual of Climber... regards, Teru

Hi , recently got into trials riding so purchased a Aprilia climber to start off on as it was cheap and in need of a bit of tarting up . I have stripped the forks down to find nothing about what oil to put back into them . They are Marzocchi 35mm stantions , they are on a 93 model too. Any help or info about this bike would be welcomed . Michael.
