OSET Electric Trials Bikes

Evening all. Has anyone had experience of servicing the 48v Oset motor? The bike is a 2016 20.0 racing. I have noticed the bearings getting noisy and from reading comments by a couple of the electric bike gurus on this forum it sounds as if there may be dirt/damage inside. While slowly rotating the back wheel with chain still attached there is quite noticeable points of increased resistance. I have seen that i can purchase bearings and brush set from Oset for quite a sensible price and currently deciding weather to strip the motor and give it a service or send it away to someone more familiar with the inner workings. Had a look through earlier posts and can't see what I'm looking for. As my Oset charger has now stopped working is it ok to individually charge each pack off the bike. I think the batteries are toast anyway, as on both types of charger they only last about 40 mins with steady use. Any recomendations where to buy batteries in the UK as the Oset ones seem expensive?

Here are also a couple of pictures of the device. Please be aware that I do not make these or sell these devices, I just think that It may be a good solution to a problem that some are having with throttle control on electric bikes.

Hello, Liking this bike a ton! Has anyone swapped out their stem for something that has a little more rise and a lot less reach? Looks like ~50mm offset and 0 degrees of rise on the stock stem here... this has much less offset, and some rise too... ...enough rise to clear to the blue comp clicker ( I think ) What do you think? I have bought the KTM Freeride - E. I know it's not a trials bike but after seeing my son take his Lipo'd Oset 20 to places a petrol bike can't go I was sold on an e bike. Almost bought the EM5.7 but the lack of dealer support put me off, the KTM has a 3 year warranty on battery and charger and a 2 year warranty on the bike itself plus the backing of the biggest player in dirt bikes. Anyway, my van has a 12v power output and I was thinking I could run an inverter to recharge the bike whilst I have a break - full charge is just over an hour. Realise I am likely to have to run the engine as I do this. On fast charge I need a constant output of at least 13 A and on normal…

Hoping someone has come across this and found the cause. 2015 oset 20R one day working perfect, the next on turning the throttle there is a momentary lurch , wheel turns slowly about a half turn, then nothing. Lights show full charge, batteries are charged and balanced and showing 48v at the switch. I've tried unplugging each of the controllers, speed power and throttle response as suggested elsewhere. No difference. All connections appear ok beyond that, stumped!!

hi just bought an oset today and i was wandering how to date it, it is an oset 20.0r but i am unsure on the age of the bike. any help would be great

Just found these. They are pretty cheap and very lightweight. They supposably made there own "prismatic?" cells (not A123s). They have been mentioned once here. It seems they would be a good choice for this application. But i can't find any info on using them this way. Can they be hooked in series? Charging? They don't have any provisions for BMS. They have been out for over a year now seems like someone would have tried them in an ev application by now. Somebody help me out.

Purchased used OSET 16 36v from a dealer in pittsburgh that was virtually brand new, not a scratch on it. From the onset the batteries longevity and strength didn't seem juth ast right. Son has ridden bike (he's 6 and around 50 lbs with potentiometer fully open) probably 8-10 times. Longest ride until batteries ran out was just under an hour mostly tight trials stuff with a few wide open jaunts through the field. On to my problem, he rode bike last week and charged bike till green light and removed charger last week. Sat until yesterday when he went to ride, he turned on key and batteries were dead (one red dot on throttle). I just assumed he left key on so I went …

I have installed LiPo batteries on an Oset 20.0 48v before with good result. Now its time for my daughters 16.0 but I am not really sure about what batteries to use. I would like to have maybe 12000-16000 mAh and I am thinking about anything from totally 8 cells (29.6v) to 10 cells (37v). Is there anyone here who have done this and what batteries have you used?

Hi All, Just got my lads (aged 4 and 7) an Oset 16.0. All is going well, but..... the diameter of the grips is M-A-S-S-I-V-E. I can hardly get my hands round them! Has anyone used any [smaller] alternatives??? Ta, David

Hi, planning on buying my son a oset 12.5 but not to sure what one yet just wanted to no what the main diffrences are between the eco & racing and what would be the best one to go with.

We have a 12.5 and a 36v in the house, and the boys are at the point of having more endurance than the batteries do (even w/ fresh 10.5ah batteries). What would be the easiest way of charging 2 or 3 12v lead acid batteries off the bike? Do the Oset chargers have the brain in them that monitors the output of the charger, or is that control part of the bike? If that's the case, would I simply need to set the batteries up in series (right voltage to the right charger), and buy a connector that will attach to the Oset chargers? Thanks in advance, Pete

Hi all. Thinking of fitting a smaller sprocket to the rear for trail riding. Hoping it will put less stress on the motor while at a semi high constant speed. Any suggestions on which size sprocket to go for?. Many thanks.

Well folks, I bought an old oset off a friend without doing any research, what can I say, it was before Christmas and I was panicking! Anyway, it's the 24v 500 Oset 16 Spider but I bought a 36v Boost bike battery which certainly peps it up a little (a lot). Pretty quick top end, actually quicker than my 24r to be fair, the 24r is carrying me tho, and I'm definitely at the top end of 90kgs. After breaking small 9mm chain earlier today (I'm pretty sure it was fairly old) I was thinking of upgrading to a heavy duty sprocket and chain set (9T front and 68T rear) but I'm not sure if the sprocket will fit the front motor as it doesn't had the D shaped fitting. Hi. Ihave a 36v oset and can get hold of 12v 9ah batteries cheap. Would it be ok to use instead of the 10ah ones and would the proformance be affected. Thanks

Oset 16: The batteries are flat (only one red light on handle bar indicator and the bike has no riding power). When i plugged the charging in the charging socket on the bike with the bike turned off, then turned the charger on the green light came on, but it has allows shown a red light when the batteries are flat? Using a multi meter i tested the charge current coming out of the charger, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the charge coming from the pos and neg leads coming from the bike to the batteries, result 28.2 volts. I then tested the link cable between both batteries and this sounded out okay. I then tested the volted with the link between both batteries connected, …

Looks like it might be a kids' bike, but there's no scale to compare the size.

Just upgraded my eldest to a 16 and want to try and smooth out the power delivery on the old 12.5 for my youngest. Slower I set the speed the further the throttle has to be turned to bring the power in and the less sensitivity there is. What's the best way to improve. Kelly controller? Debating lipo for the weight savings when the batteries have had there day. Cheers lads.
