OSET Electric Trials Bikes

  1. Started by gazzaecowarrior,

Just got my son an Oset 16 racing. He is thrilled to bits. Garden is now chewed up but at least he enjoyed his first few rides. Mrs sensibly won't let me take him practicing till his proper helmet arrives. Was wondering about washing it? I've always jet washed trials bikes and dried them properly afterwards with no issues at all. I understand jet washing these osets is a big no no. Is this actually the case ? What bits should be kept dry ? If they have such an aversion to water should he even avoid streams and puddles? Any help would be appreciated before I ruin it.

So I'm looking to ride some local mountain bike trails and workout my working line German shepherd. Just discovered electric trials bikes today, and been looking at osets 20/24s. Would these bikes work for this purpose? I may try some light trialing, but what attracted me to these is they look like mountain bikes. There's no laws against electric bikes here on trails here in Kansas. but between the dog and the bike, I'm just not trying to attract to much attention so that people will complain. people generally don't care bout that kinda stuff around here anyways. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi, i have bought a second hand oset 16 36v spider for my daughter for Christmas. Taken her out on it and it seems really slow. On full throttle with the speed adjuster all the way up it goes walking pace. The guy I bought it from said the batteries were about 1.5 years old and it had been stood for about a year. They are lucas 12v 10ah batteries, i have tested the voltage in each battery after being fully charged and are showing to be 12.7v each. Tested the voltage just before motor on full throttle and its showing 37v. I've also taken the motor apart and tested for any signs of damage to the bearings and brushes. All seems fine. Could it be that they need new batte…

Posting here as there doesn't appear to be a Mecatecno section. Is @Andystill running the show?🤩 I bought a Mecatecno T08 for my 4 year old grandson, it came from an auction (unseen, impulse buy!) and has cleaned up really well for an old bike. Replaced both levers, unseized the front forks and cleaned all the electrical connections ready for two new 9.0Ah batteries, which are on order. The only things I need now are a charger and I believe it might be missing a return spring for the front brake. Just wondering whether parts are interchangeable with other electric bikes, does anybody know. I can't find any information on the UK importer except that it used to be…

Hello, I am curious about your experiences with LiPo packs. Recently my daughter moved to 16" Oset. I made 13.5A S8 LiPo pack for her 12", it was good enough for half a day riding G class competition. The main battery drop was actually happening between stages on the crossings. What is your experience with 16" Oset and LiPo-s, what amperage you have and how long and what distance it can cover?

  6. Hi. My 5 y/o son has an Oset 16.0 racing and loves spending every spare minute on it. The "throttle" has always troubled me though, and having had no previous experience with e-bikes of any description and no ability to benchmark against other bikes, I need the help of forum members to ascertain whether the characteristics of his bike are normal or not.. From a stand-still all the way to full power the "throttle" behaves as expected and can be modulated well with a corresponding increase in speed at the rear wheel, HOWEVER when winding off the "throttle" from any position the speed/power cannot be modulated other than to eventually fully stop the transmission of power …

Well folks, I bought an old oset off a friend without doing any research, what can I say, it was before Christmas and I was panicking! Anyway, it's the 24v 500 Oset 16 Spider but I bought a 36v Boost bike battery which certainly peps it up a little (a lot). Pretty quick top end, actually quicker than my 24r to be fair, the 24r is carrying me tho, and I'm definitely at the top end of 90kgs. After breaking small 9mm chain earlier today (I'm pretty sure it was fairly old) I was thinking of upgrading to a heavy duty sprocket and chain set (9T front and 68T rear) but I'm not sure if the sprocket will fit the front motor as it doesn't had the D shaped fitting. I've asked t…

  9. Hi guru's. Last weekend the motor started making a kind of grumble/snatchy noise once the motor had gotten hot. Switch it off, Have a cuppa, let it cool and all fine again. The bike is just over 18 months old and still running same bearings so I figured it was time to swap them. I have removed the Motor, pulled the sprocket off. Removed the drive side casing and then with lots of swearing and clever use of welding gloves and an inner tube, removed the housing. My problem is that now can't seem to remove the non drive side casing to access the other bearing. How do I remove this side?. I can see the brushes in place and the (stator plate?).. I can see down to the bearing, …

Hi there, looking to upgrade the batteries of my son 36v 16" oset, with Kelly controller. My main goal is range, so something to last a bit longer, rather than high discharge stuff at all costs. Was thinking about four of these https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-battery-5000mah-5s-20c-lipo-pack-xt-90.html?wrh_pdp=3 , two in series and two in parallel, to both reach 36v and get more amperage, but not sure if anything will blow up. And not sure if they can all be wired to charge together, and if total discharge is too high for the system. If that's the case I could consider just two 24v batteries connected in parallel, as my primary goal is increase r…

Does anyone have information on after market tires and brake pads that will fit the Oset 12.5R? I tried searching tires online but there seems to be different tire specs depending on manufacturer. My kid loves doing burnouts and needs a new back tire soon. Was hoping to find a more aggressive tire. Thanks.

Hi guys, Thanks for your help in advance. Our Oset 20R has been running strong but all of a sudden weak power to rear wheel. I’ve read all forum topics and similar symptoms point to a faulty throttle. This happened last year and a new throttle solved the problem. So this time I bought another throttle and I’ve installed a brand new throttle and doesn’t help. I’ve run all diagnostic tests from the Oset you tube troubleshooting vids (I think there were 12 videos approximately). Everything passes the test with ohms meter. Batteries all strong, relay clicking, fuse seems to look good and work, etc. Oset powers on, all 3 throttle lights light up, I hear relay click und…

Hi there, I just got to take my 5 year old son out for the first time this year on his 2018 Osett 12.5 and the batteries are pretty weak, only lasted about an hour. I would love to do the LIPO conversion but he wants to go again this weekend so I'm looking for something I could buy off the shelf locally. The shop here wants $135/battery but I can't even get through on the phone to see if they have them in stock. I was wondering if something like these would be okay: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/12-volt-10ah-sla-battery-0102049p.html Or even better if I could just suck it up and buy these and plug them in: https://www.cabelas.ca/product/130…

My son (13 years old) is Using the Oset 24 mostly for enduro. Bike's motor & controller are getting very warm, and go into limp mode. Can happen after 15 minutes of riding. Added a computer fan to cool the controller, but it's not very useful. Any suggestions? Motor is sizzling hot and so is the controller. Heat sink? Cold packs?

  16. Started by Oded,

Did someone try bypassing the Relay, and directly connecting the wires together? My relay is bad, so I tried that on the Oset 24r, but unfortunately, the bike is not responding to throttle commands this way. Rest of the lights (battery indicator, 48v feeding the relay from the controller) work well.

Hello everyone. My boy has had his oset 16 since he was 3 and rides it well. We went to take it out the other day and noticed no power, quickly located to the fuse carrier had a loose connection but on reinstalling everything I snapped one of the potentiometers for the speed, I have installed a new one and it all tests out fine ie 20k ohms for full turn and 0 ohms when in the lowest position. The potentiometer seems to work fine but will only allow 13v output to the motor not the full 36v it should be. Does anyone have any ideas or have experienced the same issues? Many thanks

What made Oset's engineers choose brushed motor over brushless? Almost all e-bike alternatives run brushless. Is it because these motors are less expensive? Better low speed characteristics (RC crawlers have brushed motors for that reason)? Starting to think about an Oset 24 conversion. So many brushless controllers and motors options as opposed to brushed...

  19. I am giving my 3.5 year old grandson an OSET 12r and I an wondering what tire pressure folks are using and any other set up tips (not that he'll notice at first!). Also, since he is skilled on hs balance bicycle, my plan was to pull the pegs off for the first ride and let him get used to it, then put the pegs on a day later or so. Thoughts on this or any other suggestions on making his transition easier? Thanks, Ward

I need to purchase male and female throttle connector set used in the OSET24 bikes. A photo is attached for reference. Basically I need to work out a male to female (small extension lead) that would enable me to take throttle voltage measures for another project. Did anyone ever manage to source these connectors?
