Road Legal, MOT, Insurance etc

Whilst i have other bikes insured with e-bike and they list the Beta in their bike list, for some reason they won't insure my Beta? Just wondering whether anyone else has managed to insure a Beta with them? Ta

Bike in for an MOT tomorrow and trying to work out how best to attach the plate? I have a legal (9"x7") plate and a smaller plate for off road use. The MOT tester is pretty off-road friendly, so hopefully they'll cut me some slack in this regard. Looking at the rear mudguard (Beta Rev 3 4T) , I can't see it taking the weight of the standard plate without dropping it onto the tyre. I guess I'll have to make up a bracket and secure it to the top of the mudguard where the plastic is a bit more substantial. Any other ideas?

I've got a trials bike that someone has Q plated.....being too lazy / tight to get a dating letter from a manufacturer before registering with the DVLA. I've tried to add it my my Carole Nash multi bike policy but they won't insure it for theft....only TP use. Has anyone got a Q plate bike that can recommend an insurer for TPFT so I don't have to spend my entire life in a telephonic abyss ringing round insurers. Thanks

So ok, i understand what and why i need one but what is the actual document? Is it a receipt from when it was bought or what?

I am thinking of buying an old air-cooled mono that has been restored, and whilst doing this a replacementengine was fitted. This means that the frame number matches the one on the log book but the engine number doesn't. The bike is registered to the correct address and I know it's not stolen. It is not currentl taxed or mot'd but I would want to get it back on the road for road trials. What imPlications would it have if any? Would anyone other than me ever even know?

After just having my 2006 Sherco 290 nicked, thinking about getting a replacment bike. I say thinking because I just can't bare the thought of loosing another £1000-1500. (And I know they'll be back.) So I reckon insurance is the only way forward. Anyone got any advice? I know Carole Nash do a theft only policy for off-road bikes and had a quote for a shade over £100, which seems ok. I may end up wanting to do one of the big trials for which I hear its best to have a road-reg bike. I assume this means it needs to be taxed too and I assume proper road bike insurance will be needed to get it taxed; so wondering if a normal motorbike policy would be better. Only prob I see…

Can anyone recommend an insurance policy for my kids bikes? The bikes are not road legal or registered and never will be. The kids haven't passed any tests nor do they have a no claims bonus, they're 13 & 8. The bikes won't be going anywhere near a road except on the trailer. We just need them insuring in case of theft from storage. All the policies that I've looked at so far require the bikes to be road registered or SORNed and/or the rider to have a licence. The bikes are a Rev3 125 and a GG TXT70. Any help gratefully received, I feel like I'm on borrowed time without it and did lose a couple of bikes a while back and the missus is still giving me earache about…

Hi So the problem I have is insuring my bike at a different address to where I am living. The address is my ex-partners. Doodson would only insure mine if his was insured at the same time but now I am registering it they are unwilling to do that. Why are insurers unwilling to insure my bike at a different address? Will this change when it is registered? I don't understand why I can't insure my bike, on my own, without his being done too - insurers don't make sense!! If anyone can enlighten me I would be very greatful!

Hi I have no documentation for my Sherpa just matching frame and engine numbers. Does anyone know how to search the dvla site with just this? I don't know if it has been road registered, it may have. If not I need to do it. Advice gratefully received. Neil

Well the old girl has been a bit neglected for a while so it's time to give her a bit of attention. I'm gearing up to get the Sherco road worthy. Don't worry, no "what do I need for an MOT?" questions coming up. All I am trying to find out is with the new road fund licence rules, do you still need to display a tax disc on a motorbike? I understand why there is no need for a car due to numberplate recognition via the fancy cameras, just wondered if the same applies to motorbikes? Ta very much, Chris.

Who is a good insurer for my TY? I need to insure it with the frame number so I can register it (got everything else ready already, just need a cover note)

Could somebody please give me the info required for getting a bike road registered. If the bike has matching engine and frame numbers and every part of the bike is as it was made. No evidence of a reg number or old tax disc is available. (this would be a UK reg) cheers for any info.

The last few years I have insured my road legal trials bikes with specialist insurance companies that provide cover during a competition on the road. Most std bike insurance exclude this. With the ACU now providing insurance to cover the Road Traffic Act requirements as part of the entry fee is it necessary to go with the specialist firms or is standard road cover ok for TPF&T when not competing and for cover when going to a trial and when at home. Difference is about £140 per year so worth considering. Any thoughts or experiences

I need a dating certificate in order to register my OSSA MAR. I'm aware of the DVLA procedure which I have been through before - at some point I will need to produce a document to verify the production date. Given that OSSA don't exist I'm at a loss where to go for the certificate. Has anyone on the forum had any useful recent experience ? Thanks.

Am thinking of getting a 125cc trails bike gas gas or a beta. The plan is for it to be road legal as I can ride on road to a spots to use it. Questions I have: A. What speed would a typical 125 be able to reach and sustain? B. How much damage would be caused to a engine, by using it on road? C. Would there be any gearing changes I could make, to make the bike a bit more road friendly. If I got a beta I would be after getting the long range tank and seat setup.
