I have an old Cota 123. YEARS ago I bought parts from a guy in Vancouver Canada. He had a lot of old Montesa parts. I can't find his contact info now. Can anyone tell me who he might be and contact info?

I have read a few posts here about the 123/172/200 Cotas jumping out of gear and other mentions of a flawed design. I haven't seen any information as to why? Both my 123 and 172 jump out of 1st or 2nd gears, the 123 occasionally and the 172 worse. If it is a design issue, what is it? I have rebuilt both engines with all new bearings with no apparent wear or damage to the gears etc. They have new springs in the selector and the pawls look fine. I have tried both less tension and more tension on the detent with no change. It does seem like it needs oil in the selector pawls to work, if the bike has been sitting it won't select anything till it starts up. It …

Urban trials bike. What about adapting a current bike or similar for 'urban' use. Where noise is almost always the worst problem. The idea is the bike is a proper trials model, but it has to have a lot more sound proofing. Bigger silencers, thicker exhausts, cases etc. Ok its heavier but would it be possible to reduce the sound levels considerably in some way. Still suitable to be road registered. It would still be comparatively light but would be expected to run in a different 'class' perhaps. Might be handy in Japan and the UK at least. Another bike varient for the manufacturers to make as well based on the same technology. Ideal for my garden!

I have an '09 4RT "Repsol" and am going to be riding through elevation changes of 6-9000 feet. If I do the complete "full power" mod (factory), it involves exchanging the header for one without a catalytic converter and removing the oxygen sensor (no port). Does the removal of the sensor make it an open system? Will the fuel injection system have difficulty adjusting for significant climatic changes? Quickly or at all? Does it affect fuel consumption? Thanks.

.... my 315r just seem to have died, and i found this red stuff similar to a old air filter, under the carburator, laying over the centercase. when i backbleeded the rear brake, some of this stuff came out from the breake hose, but i bleeded it well and ignored it. now after riding for some 20 min, it went off,, i could not turn it on again, and i found more of this red filter-like stuff. Anyone has any idea what just happened? how do i fix it? ho.... i just found this in youtube i hope this solves my problem

Fed up with getting water, crud and debris in the top of the airfilter, from the rear wheel, I bought one of these rear mudguard/airbox covers from Feet-Up at SCARBORO', via Ebay I think they're originally made by H&D @ Malton ABS Moulded plastic and cost £15 Easy to fit Hope it works, can't be any worse than Honda's ommission of getting it right The problem - hole between mudguard and airbox The solution

Hi i have a 315r, the front brake is very poor i have checked the fluid levels changed the pads and made sure both pistons move, one pistons seems stronger than the other but both move. The lever feels like it should when squeezed except you can still can push the bike forward and move the wheel slightly. Does any one have any ideas.

Hello I would like to put Fat Bars on my 315. Can you just change the top and bottom clamps to suit on the original top yoke or do you need to put a new top yoke on? Preferably I want vertical clamps without the mont standard tiller. Thanks Dave

Hi all, I'm from Australia, in the NT where theres no trials clubs . Bought a 172 a few years back, used it a bit before some problems occurred - stalled when hot and wouldn't idle. I moved state and it was stored. Excited to pull it back out and get it usable again.. but am finding out fast how tricky it is to find parts. I'm handy with a spanner but a far cry from the expert. Where I'm up to is figuring what to do with the carb and fork seals. The Amal is pretty straight forward as I just need to decide between a new carby or a resleeve. Resleeve in Australia seems to be hit and miss. Where I'm really stuck is the fork seals. The originals are 31.5 x 45 x 7.1. Which is …

Help guys, Has anyone had this problem. I was at a trial on Monday and had an off on a moorland section whilst in 4th gear, the bike fell on its left side and I didn't part company with the bike and was able to dip the clutch, picked it up and set off. The gear selection at that point became a little stiff but just thought I'd bent the lever in a little bit and muck from the off. Did another section in second gear, just tried to change up as I set off to the next group and the gear shaft moved up and down but it wouldn't select a gear. There was nothing there apart from the spring resistance. The engine was running, the clutch action was fine, no strange noises, but…

I have changed my decompressor so it barely opens, will my 349 Cota start if I setup that way? previously it opened to far and the bike won't start as I think not enough compression?,anyone working this way As i'am going more trail than trials I would like to fit a headlight,I see a cut black/white wire off the coil wire and presume that's a 12v from the charging system which I again presume is a 12v DC dynamo ??? ,can I run a headlight off that?,if DC I won't need a rectifier correct? (thinks that's right) as most newer bikes are AC. Have found a semi period correct headlight which should do for my needs.

Could anyone tell me why Honda / Montesa supply orange rim tape (part no 87142-REPJ200) with their Repsol bikes? Orange tape on orange wheels... or is it just scratch protection tape? use it or don’t use it? Boner.

  20. Started by cota kid,

After a few attempts at getting up a snotty climb, having my bike on its side more often that not it decided to die on me. No attempt at kicking it off would start it. Took the plug out no spark, tried a new plug no spark. After a while a realised the throttle seemed to have far too much play on it. Tomorrow night I'm going to have a look at the throttle body and where the throttle cable fits, but thought first I'd see if anyone anyone could point me in the right direction. The bikes a Repsol. Thanks CK
