Montesa

  1. Started by schrocketeer,

There's 'Cota' printed several place on my '16 260. What does that it stand for, is it an acronym, or someone's name? Yes, I've tried searching, and google translate, but granted I may have overlooked something quite apparent.

Is there an Iridium plug available for the 4RT? I seem to remember someone saying that a CR6EIA-9 crosses to the stock CR6EH-9 but it has full threads. What's with the partial threads on the stock plug?

  5. Just bought 2021 4RT 260 which is somehow messy and I start servicing it and got shocked 🤣 Im used to simple 2 stroke, and I couldn't believe all the hoses and wires running under the tank! what a mess! On the wiring side, I want to leave the bare minimum. I dont need lights and horn. I just want kiill switch and what ever the engine need (ECU, Fuel pump, fan). Any advice here? On the hoses side, that double fuel tank vent left me confused. What the lower one is good for? Can I remove/block it or it will have some unwanted effects doing so? The head vent goes into big catch tank. Is it ok to remove it and just route the hose into the ground? …

New member here, and this is the first post on my recently purchased 2001 315r. Sorry to start my forum participation with a novel, but I thought I'd better provide all the information I can about my mysterious problem. The bike is hard to start, and when it does tick over with the choke on, the revs go sky high. I have to hold the choke in a half-on position while the motor warms up to keep it from either screaming or dying (is this normal?). Once warm, the idle hangs after revving and warbles (1-2 oscillations per second) when it finally drops, which it does very gradually over about 5-10 seconds. However, to keep it running, I have to set the idle rather high; oth…

Hi All, Stripped (315R) showa fork down for re-seal RH (damper one) as per manual, filled with correct oil 407cc and bled air out as per manual. But now doesnt seem to be working correctly, i.e. It seems to be springing back when compressed as if hydraulicing ! If I undo the top fork cap you can hear air comming out as if its building up pressure in its action ! Ive stripped and re-built a few times now and cant seem to get it working as it sould ! So am I doing something wrong ? Please if anyone can help on this one it would be very appreciated ! Ps, looked on internet for Showa forks diagram or maintainence, but nothing. Cheers, Craig.

  10. Started by the addict,

Santa brought me a set of the 4rt Jitsie footpeg hangers yesterday which I'm using in conjunction with the S3 HardRock footpegs which I bought from BVM Moto recently. I measured the standard brackets against the Jitsie ones and there seemed to be approximately 20mm of offset towards the rear of the bike which I was well happy with. The hangers look really strong and well made and there was a noticeable increase in grip whilst riding in very muddy conditions today probably because they are set so much further back. The only problem I had when fitting were the pegs needed some filing down so they would sit level on the hangers, without filing they pointed upwards quite a lo…

Hi, does anyone know where I can get a Montesa Honda 349 workshop manual, 1982 or similar year? I've looked on this forum & google but can't find anything? A simple owners manual would be a good start but I have an engine rebuild to do so a workshop manual would be very useful. Cheers Tony

My rear shock seems to have...well, not exactly packed up, but more 'made unchangable'. The purple looking screw to alter the compression has jammed up, it still has some play in it, but it will not budge either way...any ideas? The shock itself still works, but I want it hardening up, or, if possible, update the entire shock itself. I have yet to dismantle the shock as I dont have a clamp at hand, but if thats what it needs I will get hold of one. And also, if anyone has any information about obtaining shocks and their price ranges, please let me know. Thanks, Matt.

Hi, A long frustrating evening in the workshop! I’ve just tried fitting dimpled steel clutch plates and although I worked pretty methodically through removal/ replacement with the manual the clutch lever now just doesn’t move at all and is locked out! having read some other comments on here I managed to remove bolts with rattle gun and not clutch holding tool. I checked the manual and realised it states to pull clutch lever in and keep it in as you remove the clutch cover (which I didn’t do). I bled clutch lever then removed cover again, and lever pulls normally. But when refitted it goes stiff again! Has anyone experienced this pr…

I picked up a load of Montesa parts yesterday. Some one replied to my wanted ad I had on the local online classifieds. I was hoping for something that would work with my incomplete 348 Cota but I think that it will not be the case. I have found some part # and serial numbers but not sure. The item I am most curious about is the 39M motor is this from a Cota 304?? Any help with ID would be appreciated. I have posted the photobucket address http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/ii267/9N11948/Montesa%20Parts/ Sunny

Hi can anyone measure the wheel offset for me? I am about to rebuild the wheels on my 98 mont 315 . I think mine is incorrect as the front spokes catch the rear of the brake caliper and no matter how I mount the silencer the tyre catches. The wheels were rebuilt by the previous keeper. A measurement from outside the disc on both wheels would do me. 2 steel rules ,one as a straight edge one to measure? From outside disc to widest part of rim? Also could anyone post pictures of spoke configerations? Cheers Dom
