Montesa

  1. Started by andy2565,

just been out for the first time on my Montesa, had a great time, but had problems with the carb,i'd already cleaned and blew all the jets through and treated it to a new filter and throttle cable, the problem was that if you lent the bike to either side the revs went up and wouldnt settle down again, the cable wasnt trapped, the throttle wasnt returning straight away but the slide was, could it be the float level or the needle not shutting off. the carb wasnt overflowing,if you opened the throttle past quarter open the revs would increase on their own,got to be a carb issue of sorts, but what ?,we would like to go out again on sunday,so i got to sort it cheers andy

Another quick question re the 315r... Whilst stripping and cleaning the carb I noticed a split in one of the pipes. It's the one that forms a kind of loop from one side of the carb to the other, it looks like it may be 1 pipe for 2 breathers instead of 2 seperate pipes. I've never stripped one of these before so please excuse my ignorance!!!! Should it be split or not????? Again, all/any advice welcome!!! Thanks

  4. Any advice would be much appreciated... I can't get things settled down with the fuelling on my 315R: starts easily from cold with choke, but shortly after the choke is closed things go pear shaped! Throttle response gets sloppy pretty quickly - almost as if there's a disconnect between what the twist grip is doing and how the engine revs-up, with a noticeable delay and general feeling of sloppiness and lumpiness, until the point comes when the engine stalls. The only method of keeping the engine running (and to momentarily achieve a normal throttle connection), is to open the choke, but the instant it's closed again, things go back to where they were. …

I wonder if anyone can help? I have a 2001 Montesa 315R which seems to choke up when it has been running between sections. When I clear it out before a challenging section it needs to be revved flat out for ages before it clears and it splutters for about 5 seconds and sounds more like a chainsaw maniac has gone mad in the woods. This is both embarrasing and damaging to the engine. As I'm sure you'll understand. The bike has not been abused and is running a new airfilter (tried it without oiling the filter and still does it) PJ1 oil at 80:1 with regular unleaded. New plug as per the manual etc. Once I clear it out it runs fine for about 10 mins and then needs doing ag…

Hi all, after a while looking for a montesa i finally bought one, last weekend. Been away from the motorcycle scene for a few years, and fancied trying something different in the form of trials hence the mont! I love it, but i have a lot of practising to do. Anyway my question, clutch on the bike needs replacing i think, as it pulls slightly in gear when i have the clutch in and, its like a switch with no modulation. Is it worth getting a genuine Honda clutch kit, or a pattern one? (i see apico make friction plates for them) Also the bike didnt come with an owners manual, how easy are these to obtain?checked ebay but to no avail. Thanks in advance Reian

My clutch is like a switch , its either engaged or not. I have tried different oils but none seem to make a difference. Recently its started to make a squeal type noise sometimes (not constantly) when I try and hold it in a section My last bike was a beta Techno and the clutch on that was very gradual and being a complete beginner it realy helped me , but now I`ve got this Mont I just cant get used to it. I`m only a novice rider and I find it very difficult controling the bike through tricky sections compared to the old Techno. Are all 315 clutches like this ???? I have heard about putting in cr250 plates , has anyone on here tried them , or using them ????

Just rode my 315r for the first time yesterday, bike is spot on. Main problem when starting was as soon as I changed from Neutral to First the bike started pulling away even when clutch lever pulled in fully. Took a bit of a nack to hang on and get going. So obviousley something not right or is it ?

Hey Guys, Got myself a 315R last weekend & am now looking at servicing the bike as it hasn't been touched since new (No mods) & has been sat for 2 years also. First up, I have already seen the clutch drag issues & struggle to get it into neutral with the engine running / hot so I was looking at the heavy duty clutch plates (Link). These plates are friction plates only, should I be replacing the steel plates at the same time also (Even if showing no signs of wear) due to the size of the new plates? Also, the oil that I have seen recommended (HTX740) is hard to come by in the UK, does anyone have an alternative to suggest? One last thing! Any other highly re…

Hi Just to say I followed tips (trials central) on solving clutch drag on a Mont 315r and its has worked perectly. I only had the bike a few weeks and struggling to get neutral, bike pulling away when put in gear with clutch in, nightmare, spoiling the fun basically. So after browsing the TC pages replacing the clutch plates was what everyone was saying. I ordered some through Haven Trialsport (

Now then, I want to ask the worldy wise about this Montesa clutch drag problem. It's doing my head in to be frank. No matter how warmed up the bike is, the drag is bad and keeps stopping the engine when i'm moving slow or stopped. Staring it is not funny any more. Does anyone have any sensible advice other than a new clutch kit? I also would like to ask, Is Castrol Driveline Sytnrax Universal 75W-90 any use for the clutch oil? I am not using it, just interested (bike still has the oil in that I bought it with in), but i have a lot of it spare, two gallons to be precise! So it would be nice to use it up... Look forward to any tips guys... many thanks Michael

I'm going to bite the bullet and change the friction and steel plates on my 1998 315r for the Apico aftermarket type (dimpled steels), to alleviate clutch drag. Referring to the workshop manual shows a clutch holder/lock tool used to steady things whilst the centre nut is removed (and re-tightened). Is this really necessary, or can something else be safely used for the job? Apologies if this comes across as a dumb question - it'll be the first time I've got my hands on the 315's oily bits, so all help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2000 Montesa 315R. The bike is great but the clutch action makes it difficult to feed power on smoothly. I was using Silkolene light gear oil but am now trying Motorex fully sinthetic gear oil. The plates look OK. Has anyone tried weaker clutch springs or even left any out? Havn't tried it but it was just a thought! Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
