If the bars are hollow, use a compressor to blow air through from the opposite side. This will stretch the grip and help it to slide on - Fit the throttle grip first, remove the throttle assembly and then do the left grip. If the bars are plugged, lightly spray the inside of each grip with something like hairspray/spraypaint/carpet glue etc. Leave to dry overnight and then lockwire the grips to make sure they don't slip. (Carpet glue is the best, just try not to spray it inside the throttle housing like a mate did)

5yr old bike? Yes, some of the Mikuni carbs leak but not all of them. They usually leak out of the 'choke' side vent - if it's leaking out the exhaust side then maybe the pipe is melted and it's creating a syphoning effect. Gav, pull the carb off and gently warm the copper/brass spigot and bend it towards the front wheel (try not to kink it or break it). Replace the vent pipe and see if that cures it. If not, add a longer vent pipe and connect it to the spigot underneath the carb bowl. The other vent should allow enough air in to let petrol the out.

Apparently the rules were changed recently, as only dealers can register a new bike! I couldn't insure mine on a frame number and couldn't get a Reg. number until I had insurance Went back to the dealer and they sorted it all out for me, not sure how you would do it for used bikes though...

I took my carb to JLI's for the usual leaking carb mod. When I picked it up, I noticed that the copper/brass pipe that the exhaust side vent fits on to had been gently twisted towards the cylinder to stop it melting on the middle pipe. After this years SSDT I stripped the bike and noticed that the pipe was still intact with no burn marks at all - not bad after 500+ miles

I seem to remember hearing this before, is one side totally flat with a right angle edge and the other side has a rounded off/bevelled edge? If so, which way should it go on?
