I think the Taliban quote came from me I've had mine for 8 years now, only use it for trials & enduro bikes/tip/private use and it's only done 45,000miles.............so not as much as some Being RWD they can be a bit of a pain in snow/wet grass unless loaded.............but that's the only downside They only come in one body size height and either SWB (280) and LWB (300) and can carry 1200kg Mine is a 2002 model and has the D4D Turbo Diesel 2.5litre 4cyl motor (before that they were normally aspirated) They are a solid relaible bus, with no fancy electrics like windows/aircon/mirrors and have an old fashioned drive train, with a propshaft and no Dual Mass Flywheel clutch set up. Been out in mine tonight and I haven't started for 4 weeks (snow/ice) and she fired up first click (twin batteries) and has a useful idle lift, which allows you to warm it up whilst loading. She drove spot on tonight She will cruise at 80mph on the motorway and return 35mpg Easy to service and sort Cambelt every 60k and it was only £139 all in, at a main franchise Toyota dealer I still service her at a main Toyota dealer and last year it was only £89 for an intermediate service and MOT, this year's full service (all oils - engine/gearbox/rear diff) and coolant/brake fuid change and MOT is only £275 - so Toyota dealer is cheaper than an independant She's been spot on and they do seem to be reliable, the only thing I heard was that I think, the front or rear suspension arms can fail and Toyota will still replace when the vehicle is out of warranty perhaps...............but I think it's rare, apart from that I've heard that nothing else is a worry

I'd get a 2nd opinion from Tony @ Feet-UP first, before spending a shedload of cash.................he was/is a Montesa dealer Usually they are bomb-proof..................but any machinery can fail, if it had been abused in a previous life

I rode it too and did the Easy 'Yellow' Route Haven't ridden the bike (4RT) since July (too busy riding the roadbike and foreign touring) and I found the route challenging with some very tight bits I used to ride a lot as a youngster and in my 20's, but only returned to trials in the last couple of years and haven't ridden much (family and other bikes ) I really enjoyed the Trial though and had a mixed result, I would expect - 1st lap was poor (getting used to the bike again), 2nd and 3rd laps were really good and 4th lap, I dropped off in the last couple of sections due to fatigue It was a big entry and great to see Although challenging...............if you don't do harder stuff, you never get better and I saw nothing silly or dangerous

Stick to private land with the landowners permission and you'll be fine then

Google TRF and seek out the Derbyshire lot.................they have all the route info for legal trails and byways - bike & you must be legal, if you're riding on a proper highway though

Depends on your point of view.......................a van is always a van Never going to be be a high performance sports car with similar road holding, is it There may be better vans to drive...................but personally I can't see the point of 175bhp in a van, with the aerodynamics of a shopping trolley I couldn't be doing with a rusty Vito/Sprinter or a T5 with DMF/clutch or electrical gremlins If Toyota is reliable enough for the Taliban.....................then it'll do for me
