  1. I know they reverse the route sometimes - is this map the way they are running this year? jut trying to work out our change over points
  2. this is what i finished my first Scott on now that was 156cc of real bike
  3. a top tip to make gardening slightly more enjoyable is to put some castrol'R' in the lawnmower petrol (even a 4t) then you can cut the TT course in the lawn and go round in ever decreasing TT circles sorry - back to the original question - i cant tell the difference whatever oil i use in the trials bike. I did by mistake use some superunleaded petrol with octane booster that i use for my classic bike once - thought i was on a new bike I also know someone that tried their Mont on diesel as well - that doesnt work though. - eh Jeff?

    Petrol Cap

i lost one on a GG i had at the ssdt a few years back - all i had was a marsbar so squashed it into the hole - it lasted all day!!
  5. BIG THANK YOU to the SACU - their substantial contribution has taken us tantalisingly close to the
  6. the trick is to push forward on the bars at the critical time -this brings the back wheel up. - well it used to work on a 240 fantic
  7. Quite right Andy - but when you consider what a tight ar**d bunch trials riders are its no suprise. this topic has had over 1000 views yet i can only see about 10 TC members on the list - come on - wherever you ride trials there will probably be a mountain/coast/fell rescue service nearby to pull you out of trouble or even save your life. this is your chance to help out some of these unpaid volunteers who risk their lives saving others. anyway - got to get back to training for October - i'm up to 6 pints and four pies. - have to do better on the pies or my team-mate will show me up. ps huge THANK YOU to those who have donated lets see if we can make the grand
  8. Thanks guys for all the support - we have decided to up the target to
  9. i made one up many years ago the first thing you will need to do is fit a wider swinging arm to enable a trials tyre to fit - one from a c15 fits i think with some minor mods. throw away the original footrests and hang footrests from the rear footrest plates - fit new trials footrests as close to the bottom bolt as you can. i left the single spine frame under the engine but if you have the skills and the material twin tubes would give you a bit more groundclearance. i cut the rear loop of the frame and made up a flat steel hoop to mount a rear mudguard on. cant remember much more as the engine was so puny that i didnt use it much - a D7 engine is no use for trials - you need a D14-4 speed 175cc unit which you can tune up. which of course were made in about 1969 so it depends how strict your local trials are - although not that many people could tell the difference. good luck
  10. sorry - had to change the title due to the blind panic that was sweeping the trials world now follow this linkHERE
  11. The SSDT committee have been given the opportunity to put a charity team into the famous Scott trial. - we must thank the Scott committee for inviting us. our team is made up of Leigh Bremner Grant Taylor and Mark Whitham who will be competing as a relay team trying to finished the course within the standard time set by the fastest man (this will not be easy! - if you've seen us ride recently you will understand) Now comes the bit you can all help out in - our chosen charity is the Lochaber Mountain rescue team Lochaber Mountain Rescue team provides a search and rescue service for Lochaber district (SSDT country) with the largest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis in the centre of it's geographical area. It not only assists climbers and mountaineers but any person such as canoeists, mountain bikers, trials riders and skiers. It is made up of unpaid volunteers who give up their time to provide a search and rescue service where the normal emergency services cannot reach - if you have ever ridden in the SSDT or walked out to spectate any of the remote sections you will be comforted to know that the mountain rescue service exists. we have set up a website to make donations and if you are a taxpayer the government even add on 28% for free!! - so dont be shy go to the link below and give generously Donate Here
  12. easy fix for guaranteed no leaks - buy a montesa
  13. i also had to replace the plug on my Honda 4 stroke last week - it was the same one that it had from new - 16 years old! and its done a few miles as well - admittedly only backwards and forwards over the lawn I suppose i should also change the oil - 16 years might be pushing it a bit?
  14. knowing the inverness club I'm sure it was a cracking trial - however its a sad reflection on the sport that there were only 9 starters in the A route - and half of them were winning trials 20 years ago! - what is happening to Scottish trials ? where are the young riders?
  15. forecast not too good but after monday at the scottish anything will be good weather. managed to drag an old mate out who hasnt ridden a trial for 17 years - he's dug out his old riding gear (and it was out of date then!) and borrowed a bike - so if you see a farmer type in 1980s riding gear give him a cheer - he'll probably beat us all as he was a reasonable rider then (dont tell him i said that)
  16. jessops are offering the d40 at
  17. oh-no not aberfeldy again - ive just recovered from the last one i did and that was nearly 20 years ago - we had a caravan with a barrel of beer connected into the water tap and untold bottles of vodka and we lost all the lids - what else could you do? ive still got the sticker
  18. I must emphasise that the ssdt have very good relations with the Forestry Commission and in the letter they did compliment us on the event management - their letter expressed 'concern' rather than being a complaint about the use of the track. I do agree that the Club cannot be held responsible for the actions of the public who may or may not be spectating at the event and i think that in this case there have been mitigating circumstances - ie the Police informing riders of the route.
  19. fully agree when you start managing crowds you have responsibilities - and if you take an entrance fee you have even more. i'm first to state risk assessments are essential but the point i'm making is that they alone are not sufficient and having a competent person who can show that he has considered all the risks is what is needed (and of course it is good practice to record these) It would be good to have a forum to share best practice and perhaps the ACU should have a section on their website with downloadable examples, guidance etc. It sounds like the ACU national CofC seminar is somewhat better than the SACU one i sat (although it was nearly 3 yrs ago) - i will find out this year when i resit it!
  20. Cheers for this Bigfoot - worthy of letting the FC know. The status of FC roads has always been a bit of a mystery to me - technically thay are the 'Queens highway' as they are owned by the Government however i am sure that there are exclusions that let them keep them closed to vehicular traffic. I was once told that any that are open to vehicle use are subject to Road traffic legislation and have a blanket 15mph speed limit. - not sure how much truth is in this but i do know that 15mph is the FC limit. I am sure that this was a one-off due to the closed road so hopefully will be able to resolve it by posting a notice at the gate onto the road if necessary. Other than this issue the FC did congratulate us on the well managed event.
  21. I have been fairly quiet on the subject of unofficial riders at the ssdt this year, leaving the voices of others to make the point. HOWEVER - today i received an official letter from the Forestry Commission expressing their concern about the unauthorised use of the forest track along the North side of Loch Lochy on the Tuesday of the event. The Forestry Commission are one of our main landowners who welcome us back year after year and a lot of the land used by the event is owned by them (a lot of it is open hill - they dont own just forests). A formal letter of concern from them requires to be taken seriously. Apparently on Tuesday there was a road traffic accident that closed the Fort Augustus -Spean Bridge road for a while - some trail riders decided to take the forest road along Loch Lochy coming out at Clunes. - This road is part of the Great Glen Way; a well used long-distance footpath. Not content with riding unauthorised along the forest track apparently some of them were travelling at 'considerable speed' (the words of several FC staff who witnessed them). Bottom line is that we will probably now have to post a marshall at the end of the road next year to stop any repeat performance. If it was you, perhaps you would like the job of standing at the gate all day next year - No? - i thought not - but someone will have to do it
  22. great vids - looks like a bl@@dy hard trial - glad i wasnt riding
  23. have to agree - John has found his true vocation in life. And your right - the Jamie Reid interview will go down is history.
  24. I know a lot of riders and spectators read these forums but dont like to post comments - please if you attended the scottish fill in this survey - it will be good to see the results and it can influence next years event. thanks mark
  25. it was the course markers who run the day before the trial - it was so wet and foggy that they spent all day getting to Rannoch where it got dark. they stayed in the hotel at rannoch station with nothing but their wet riding gear and two hundred orange flags. the hotel owner refused to cook them breakfast early but took all their money - never been back since !!!! glad to see some good scottish weather coming over the horizon (not that you will be able to see the horizon next week ) - people come from the other side of the world to experience scotland - the weather is part of the challenge
