    Two Holes?

A different one will still get bent in and be no better - I used one of the inner liners this place did - not sure if they still do them My link
  2. If you insist on having one of a standard design there must be dozens lying under benches. A horrible design which I and most of my peers simply rode without (except for the first week in May of course). Place an advert.
  3. Apparently a lot of things happened to bikes "about this time" (1965) that we didn't realise then
  4. I imagine they'd be equally useful for blowing out spark plug holes on a twostroke but would not recommend it as a method for any motor as it's likely to put dirt etc in to the motor. Better to use an old plug with a diagonal saw cut across the thread to clean a plug hole thread.
  5. Get the disc hot and spray gently it with water from a hose or watering can. You're not so much treating the metal as removing the fine rubbish from the surface to get full friction. I've never seen a disc damaged this way. More likely to do so by putting in the oven I would have said.
  6. VOV, if you strip the seletor mechanism be aware that the slot in which the pawls run is off centre. It goes together nicely the wrong way up but you only get three gears so take a note before removing it.
  7. Don't know about the era mentioned but the diesel army bike I read about was based on KL650 cycle parts and was being developed for the US but apparently Britain was interested. The advantage is there's no need to have petrol when everything else runs on diesel - and you can always commandeer a local chippie for fuel if need be in emergency! As the British Army dropped motorcycles a couple of years ago the matter became irrelevant.

    Beta Evo 4T

It does but not if you leave the bike for weeks and weeks between uses.
  9. Each to their own but I'm afraid that is my attitude also to spending money on that sort of thing. If I was young and rode in conditions where they might last more than ten minutes I could think differently.
  10. I'd say your plates are just separating better than they did before (different oil?). If the rattle goes away when the plates come together then no problem. I daresay there's a few on here who would love to get a rattle when they pulled in the clutch lever.
  11. Can't help, but I quite liked the "Kawajet" pictured on that post about the Japanese Classic event.

    Beta Evo 4T

This is another one of those "They all do that Sir" problems. I assume that, like my Beta, the clutch clears eventually. The way to speed this up is to push the bike off with a foot as you put it in to gear with the clutch lever in then change up the box, holding the lever in all the time; when you get to fourth the clutch will free and you should be OK after that. Or use the bike every week.

    Cub wheels

It come as no surprise to those of us with worn out bootsoles to hear that there was no attempt at improvement in braking between the Thirties and Fifties.

    help!

There must be headlights lying in many a shed across the country.
  15. Well, did you take up any of these suggestions to get the lad out then FB?
  16. WTF, as I believe the modern argot has it, is the point of going miles in to the countryside to a trial to sit and watch videos? Either stay at home or be observing.
  17. I'd be interested to see how you rig up a scothbrite pad in a drill as I want to do a similar clean up.
  18. I once effected a temporary repair by dropping the sumpguard and sandwiching a bit of plastic between guard and whatever I used to fill the hole with. Even easier nowadays that we have silicon seal. Take oil to top up and you should get him out tomorrow.
  19. Practice makes perfect alas in that case.
  20. Can't see any photos and there's usually no problem with my set up - is there a temporary glitch somewhere?
  21. Of course a sharp edge gives a competitive advantage - or why would we bother to buy a nice new tyre when the tread rounds off? I confess I once sharpened the edge blocks on the 348 with a Stanley knife as they seem to do a lot of the work (they round off quicker) but I felt it lacked traction on cambers. I'd better hand back that Aberfeldy Two Day finishers award now I suppose.
  22. I'm curious about this, does "as at the time of manufacture" prevent or allow the fitment of a period drum from another make?
  23. Sounds like it should be everything that's not allowed in the other classes - "evolution".

    ty mono

An easier compromise? My TY had been altered by the original owner - the footrests had an extra "rung" added to the rear to widen them for comfort (much like modern rests). I certainly found that, if wheelspin occurred, then flexing my ankles to put all my weight on the back edge certainly improved grip.
  25. It is indeed on Six From the Scottish.
