  1. Walz... I admire your ingenuity, that will work as well as the aftermarket dimpled steel plates.

    Rim Stickers

Where's Rosey, always has something interesting to say on rim stickers.
  3. Classic symptom of insufficient fork oil volume as Mr.B40 has said.
  4. PBI sprockets, made in america. 50 tooth
  5. I use 10/50 for actual trials competion, some people run 11/50 for general trail riding.
  6. The XL185,XL200 and XR200 clutch casing are a bolt on, to a TLR200 crankcase. I have done this and they are completely interchangeable, oil galleries in clutch cover line up exactly etc. The only difference is the cosmetic external shape of the cover looks different. I have several XR200R engines and use the TLR covers on those as well, so swapping either way is not a problem. The TLR cover sells for big bucks on ebay. The XL/XR200 clutch covers are a fraction of the price and much more common, used, on ebay.
  7. Cascade Motorcycles in Mission B.C., just outside of Vancouver is the canadian importer for Scorpa and Montesa. Don is a good guy and willn help you out.
  8. If you re-read post number one, you will see he applied for and received a refund.
  9. Montesa 315 1997-1999 also used the 38 mm Paoli fork. Oil quantity specified in factory manual 360cc per side, no difference in quantity between rebound side and compression side. I tried many combinations of viscosity and oil quantity and always went back to stock specified oil quantity and 7 weight oil. (5 weight specified) I am 150 lbs.
  10. Very common carpentry term, wood joinery. Google it.
  11. Yeah I totaly agree with you, have experienced exactly the same. Owned a 98 315 for nine years, tried at least eight different oils over a period of years, none made any discernable difference. Tried the aftermarket dimpled plates and WOW what a difference, like a completely different machine, the difference has to be experienced to believe. Bike is long gone now but clutch performance never deteiorated over time after replacing the stock metal plates with the dimpled.
  12. There are quite a few of these still going strong on vancouver island, the large tank big seat model (super alp) ?
  13. Mr.Schrauber, you have to learn this unusual english word stiction which is what I think you mean when you refer to stop loss momentum all the time. Agree with the ariete seals, never seem to wear out. Mark
  14. Time difference is 8 hours from west coast of usa to england. England is ahead of you .
  15. Hello, you do not say what year your bike is but this is key to the repair. The 315 came out in 1997, all through the 90's it was known as having terrible clutch drag. No amount of oil changes, trying different types of oils helped. The aftermarket clutch companies figured out the smooth metal plate was the problem and supplied a dimpled metal plate, end of problem. Some of us figured out the 1989 cr250r metal clutch plate (dimpled) fit, end of problem. Honda eventualy noticed what all their customers were doing to fix their bikes and started fitting the cr250r metal dimpled clutch plates on new bikes. I dont remember exactly the year the dimpled metal plates started to come on new bikes but it was the later years (315 made from 1997-2004). So to sum up the friction plates were never a problem from the start, no miracle oil could fix the problem. With the proper dimpled metal plates the 315 has a excellent clutch.
  16. I could be wrong but I believe the larger lighting coil is for supplying power to both the headlight and taillight. The smaller lighting coil was for the taillight BRAKELIGHT function.
  17. Nice job on that kicker. I assume that is on the XL200 special from the photo. What type of heat is required to reform metal of that thickness and what other techniques did you use to bend it. I have 3 spare xr200 arms and am always installing 200 engines in non stock frames modern and classic.
  18. The 315 was sold from 1997 to 2004. The 1997 to 2002 came with 5 inch rise Domino bars. In 2003-2004 they came with 4 1/2 inch rise.
  19. Do not replace the friction plates unless worn out. The clutch fix for the 315 is replacement of the stock steel plates with aftermarket dimpled plates. All the 315's suffered from clutch drag from new. With the right metal dimpled plates, oil has a chance between the plates to prevent the drag. Do a search on here for different makes of plates it has been covered extensively over the years. Great bikes.
  20. Thanks for putting up that link Andy. Had not heard of these gents before. Some interesting bits they produce not available elsewhere. Have put in an order. Cheers
  21. The TY Mono 250 and 350 top ends are completely interchangeable. We could only buy the 350 in the late eighties in North America and most top experts would buy the 250 cylinder, piston and cylinder head before leaving the dealership with their new bike.
  22. Four piston caliper is a direct bolt on for pre 2000 315.
  23. 348 montesa is an actual 305 cc, nice bike, montesa parts are much harder to come by than bultaco parts. wear items for montesa are available, its internal engine parts, transmission parts etc that are completely unavailable for some montys.
  24. Have you read the post above #2, regarding John Cane he is the man for old yamaha parts and a great guy.
