    Husabeta

But didn't someone (mick Andrews?) have a yamaha with a TT/XT 500cc 4t single in it for a toy ? Talk about torque ! But alas, the husi engine alone w/engine management components is probly worth more than a new beta 4t . marvelous bit of enginering though , I wonder how long the motors will last in the real world . My imagination only goes to the limits of putting a injected xr400 engine in a fantic frame .... but the drive is on the wrong side , so I'd have to come up with a 200 rear wheel and hub , run a cable operated rear brake , and find some gears to work in the tranny ..... And the list goes on , If only I was really wealthy and bored ... Glenn
  2. Now Go compete on the fantic in the twinshock event , and you may not want to let AA compete her ! Glad your happy w/it , We all told ya the're GREAT ! Have fun ! Glenn
  3. What a Crock !!! Why won't the world see thru these " Fund my cause , so I can get rich w/ my charitable deductions " manipulators and look at the reality of their claims ! I have heard and read repetedly articles and studies dating back many years by some of the most renowned archioligsts in the world ... The planet we call home heats up and cools down in a never ending cycle !!!! just look at our fairly recent history... The USA wouldn't have the fertile farmland we do if glaciers hadn't formed at one time and scrubbed what is now canada clean, and then receded to where they are now and deposited all the top soil in our midwest ! Acording to most who deeply study these things the oceans have been 15 feet or so deeper several differant times in the last few million years ... More than once in our past a volcano has blackened the sky over 75% of the planet for years ! And she recovers ... If they need a cause why don't they get going on something us mere mortals can effect ? Clean the plastic crap out of the ocean ! That is affecting the eco system of the world more than just about anything else . OK , I'm off my soapbox for now ! Glenn
  4. I can relate ... My boys are getting into skateboards and just starting to look at girls !!!!
  5. I didn't notice that !LOL Somehow between scanning my old pictures and posting the image got mirrored... Told ya I don't know how these puter things function .!.!
  6. "I like the standing joke that you can set a $20 bill at the sign in table of a trials, come back at the end of the day and there will be more money there because folks think it is a collection for a good cause. " Aint it the truth !!! And Alan ; Why wern't you at the trackrock event ? I still owe you a putt on the old fantic ! I thought for sure we would finally meet ? Glenn

It made a positive change on my fantic ! Glenn
  8. Boy do I wish I still had my first REAL :-) ? trials bike !!! I think it was about a year old at this point ... Time fades memories and photo's!Glenn
  9. I've been running silkoline light gear oil for the last few changes , and my clutch performance has gotten marginaly better ...? Glenn
  10. Spud , Try a Iwf22 denso iridium , Direct crossreferance for the stock l82 champion . And works GREAT !!!! And did Lee explain the front brakes or do you need a photo ? Glenn
  11. Lee ; Didn't you get that 300 brake off evilbay ? I got outbid w/a second or two to go ... One armed typing and all , but I had bid on the stay from the same guy and got that cause I thought it may be differant than the 240 . Greeve's recomendation was to open up the center (axle) hole in the stock 240 backing plate about 20 thou., reasemble but just snug the axle hardware ,then apply front brake to center shoes on drum and then tighten everything w/the brake still applied ... I put a zip tie on the brake lever pulled snug (after a few hard squezes to center it ) then torqed everything down . But testing it out in my no pressure on my left shoulder condition , it would get the backend real light with the presure I was comfortable to put on it ! And on my gravel driveway I locked the front w/little effort wilst sitting down ... It'll be fun when I can pressure both grips =ly . It feels to be at the one finger (mech. hands) point ! Cheers , Glenn
  12. Hey Lee ! Let me know if you want me to ship you the link for that 300 backing plate ? And I was replacing the wheel brgs in all my wheels , so I did the hub mod and adjusted the front as greeves recomended . It's amazing what some simple , no cost mods can do ! Thanks Greeves Stoppies are fun ! And as I get ready to prep my spare frame ,(as I've slowly obtained enough parts to build another complete 240 !) just how many degrees do you think I should move the steering head back on this one ? And I've found a source for composite spherical brgs for the ends on my falcons to go w/the 20x26x30 needle brgs. in the swingarm on chris's drilled shaft ... should have little if any resistance in the rear suspension movement , I may have to get the dampening on the falcons tweaked abit though ... And I think a reedvalve conversion on this motor after I port it to match my currant one . And Yes I'm really BORED waiting for my clavicle and shoulder to heal back to 100% operating condition ! Cheers to all ! Glenn
  13. Great Filmage ! Wish I'd been able to be there . Darn broke clavicle ... Glenn
  14. Some guys have all the fun ! (I think she likes nicky's bike #!!!?) Does Bernie ever ride events anymore ? He did kinda start the whole stop >bob & hop movement didn't he ?
  15. Back to the heading of this whole post , 'Fantic(what is It?) ... just one of the best motorcycles ever built (imho) , with a small but very loyal enthusiast / rider following ! I had got away from trials in the early 70's and never even heard of a fantic till I bought mine in 05 ... and now I spend alot of time just buying fantic parts whether I need them or not ! Have fun with it , take care of it ! And Atom , Have a ball competing on it !!! (and maybe you can show spud what 212cc can do !) Glenn

    Brake Shoes

Yeah the good old days...Reminds me of a event about 6 months ago , One of the young men at the dealer iIwork at has a 32 vicky that was hot-rodded in the late 50's. Still has a built flathead and all the correct era peices ! W/ a straight all steel body ! It came out of a garage from under a cover when his wife's grandpa past on. Anyways he got it running and brought it home . But he was telling me one day that he needs to get a generator for it cause it won't charge and turning on the headlights kills the motor ...And alas he was totaly shocked to find out what one would cost !!! So I told him to bring the generator in to work . After Checking the windings and brgs , I had him locate some brushes and brgs. for it and rebuilt it for him , then we went back over to his place and put it on . He was totaly amazed when I polarized it and then cleaned the contacts in the regulator and adjusted it !!! And all the repair cost him was about $25.00 for the parts , When the 'new' one he almost bought would've been in the $600.00 dollar range !

    Brake Shoes

Now Your making me feel OLD !!! Way back in the dark ages when I started to twist a wrench for a source of income . (I actualy was a apprentice at a RR/Jag. dealer)! We used to reline brake shoes on a daily basis , and every set got arced to the drum ... Back then the only time you put on new shoes was if they went metal to metal and destroyed the shoe ! A lost art these days ... But then we used to rebuild carbs , alternaters , ps. pumps and racks too ... Not just bolt on a new part ! These days I spend 75% of my time w/a laptop and scantools pluged into cars diagnoising minor electronic glitches that turn on check engine lights ... OH to be back in the days when 2 downdraft 3bbl. was the most complicated fuel system you ever saw ! Glenn ...
  18. Clean the Carb ! Looks Sweet from here ! Contact Steve Goode for a petcock , most likely has one handy !! And looking at the photo's closer I'd get rid of the handle bar riser setup on it ! But I would have to say you got a good deal on that one Glenn

    Brake Shoes

Hi Phil ; The adventure starts again ,heh... I just went out to the shop and measured some lightly used OE. shoes off my fantic and came up w/ about 3.75mm ,give or take abit ! If the shop that relines them for you is close , bring your shoes , wheel and backing plate w/you and I'd (if they are freindly and not swamped !) have them install 4mm linings and then arc them to fit ! oh yeah bring the axle with you to ! But you should be able to get a lining w/much greater contact area than stock ... IMHO ! Glenn Added On Edit !!! I forgot I had a fresh set of ebc shoes stashed away ,so I measured those ... they are just a bit over 4mm by the crude measuring device I have here at home , my micrometers and good calipers are at work in my toolbox ! I should get a cheap but decent set for the home workshop !!! and the ebc pn# is I beleive #841 G ... So anyways if the shop is game maybe start at about 4.5 or 5mm and arc to fit ! Let me know how it works out , as I beleive thats how B&J racing in TN. does their brakeshoes . And don't forget to cut some diagonal grooves in the new linings to help with water removal ...

Thanks Greeves ! And Spud contact Chris at http://www.classictrial.co.uk/ He modifys stock 240 top clamps for fat bars ,or you can do as I did and locate a set of 200 top clamps which move the bars forward a bit and then get bolt on fatbar adapters . As for footpegs , Chris can help on that front also , and you can locate my previous post on here about the peg swap on my bike . Modern pegs was/is one of the best mods I've made to mine ,as the stock pegs are quite narrow and most likely a bit knackered by now ... When you get it home 1st thing you should do is pull off the seat and tank to inspect the frame for cracks in the steering neck braces between the top frame tube and the 2 lower tubes ... If the bike was actually ever used as intended it will be cracked and/or already repaired ! If it is this is a good time to change the fork angle abit too ! Good Luck and have fun with your 'new' redhead girlfreind !!! They are very rewarding old girls .... Glenn (search trialcast ) for my peg post ...
  21. Hi All ; As a 50ish out of shape , smoker who never gets to ride enough ... The way I've learned to control arm pump and musclecramps in general is simple !!! I sit at the entry gate of every section a moment or two and take 4 or 5 DEEP , SLOW contolled breaths ,exhaling completley while thinking about my line . But the most influancial thing for me is bananas !!! !!! I eat a few before the event begins and try to eat one every loop ! And lots of water . But also remember , just relax and have fun , Thats why most of us do this anyways ! And also the only one thats gonna complain about how you did ( in most cases) at our levels is ourselves!!! Just have a good time and relax ... Glenn
