And Jay ! I have to ask (after doing a search here on fork angles and some posts you made about fixing a ty80 up for a freind came up !
Why Didn't you warn me !!!! ! I've got more into this ty80 than I do into my 240 ! ( including enough spares, frame and all to build a second bike !) But we do what we do and if AHRMA doesn't let modern twinshocks in , I'll just ride a bizarre big wheeled ty80 !!!! And Swoosh in a few years I may have a TRICK TY80 for your kid ...
Glenn Percoset and A beer what a combo ! Gotta go weld a frame now !!!
(just kiddding ?)

Hi all ; As I near the ridable point of my whitehawk/ty80 replica , I've come across the SanRemo rim co. that makes a 36 spoke rim to suit my needs . Has anybody used them ? Cause it ain't gonna be cheap to get a set here for me to lace to my hubs ... And the last wheels I laced were for a friends MG TF restoration project . But I've got a spare swing arm or two , so a truing stand shouldn't be hard to fabricate !
Glenn
PS. it will get ridden with the stock doner rims and knobby tires first !?.... And yes I'm after the same sizes as a beta 50 ...

A 4.00 x 18 IRC or Vee Rubber trials tire should suit your needs just fine ... IMHO .

Lee here is the site where he sent me the photos from ... They are huge ! http://good-times.webshots.com/album/565517648mIPbNn
You even get to see the ugly ones here !! And it's missing the airbox lid , But I think I can deal with making/fitting/finding one !!!

Is it just me or isn't that photos of 2 different bikes ?

Too Cool ! you know how to contact me !

There is now a ITSA northwest region on the schedule !!!
So now someone in the southwest has to step up to the plate !
GET Those twinshock bikes out and ride them !!!!!!
Glenn
Go to www.twinshock.org for details !

Yes I think I'm obsessive / compulsive ... or just a confirmed fantic fanatic . But this (I believe 1980) fm330 just landed in my grasp and I've made arraignments to give it a good home and a workout teaching some kids how to truly ride trials . My ty80 project only needs some welding and detail work and proper tires , but will be ridable next weekend and then gets fine tuned ... But I am going to stretch my lack of budget to the limits of sanity and get this one owner fantic 50 home . It looks to be in much better shape than my 240 was when I obtained it .
Now just to get my 14yr. old daughter (who rides better than the boys ) to show it some affection so it feels at home! I've never seen another one here in the states , I'm sure there are a few around but where ?
Glenn
And how is the parts availability across the pond ?
-
Well that's better than here ! It's been 95+ w/loverly afternoon thunderstorms for a week or so now ... Glad I insulated the ceiling and put ac out in my new playroom ! But enough of the weather channel , any progress on a Fantic lic. plate design ?

Try lewisportusa.com , I think they sell the the plastic your after ...?

No one ever said it was pretty !!!
Although cleaned, painted and polished it might make it to the "not a bad looking bike " level !
-
Cool , But although Tony's looks fantastic , it rides even better ! That was a experiance for me that only lasted a few minutes , but one that I will never forget ! And Tony if you read this , Thanks again for the putt on your D9/enfeild

I'd be willing to bet there would be no problem with starting a southwest and/or northwest chapters , as at this time I believe we are southeast
and midwest chapters only ... With a few members spread worldwide !
Glenn
-
But did you get the oilfeild ????
Glenn ,
If you did let me know when it works like Tonys !
-
But you gotta admit , that could be a really neat old bike . abit of History that needs to survive !
If I could I would , but it would be a bit hard to obtain at this point !
-
And I have to add ... If you've never seen MR Ginder on his TY , you should make it a point to come and watch/ride a ITSA event . You will leave knowing what trials was meant to be . He is so fluid and smooth , I learn something every time I watch him .
And Bob , does that last post mean the Jumbo is HEALED !! ?
Glenn
-
Ya may wanna run that by the GURU first ... 'cause some real sweet bikes show up to ITSA events and get RIDDEN ! I haven't seen a parade yet ...
-
That would be quite a project ! But looks to me to be a piece of history that someone should step up to and ride !!!
And I always have to wonder , How do such special bikes end up in that sort of condition ?

A prior to welding mockup/fit... The fork angle is about 26.5deg. at this point witch will work ok , as the rear will get a 17'' rim (when I find one to lace to the xr or ty hub !) and I've located some CHEAP 12 3/4 '' rear trials shocks that should suite my needs ok for now . And I have to put the swingarm extension directly inline with the factory piece so my sprockets still line up . the way it is pictured the rear one moved in about a 1/4 inch . But those changes should make every thing work well ! And I found out that a later model yz80 used a 428 chain , so I can upgrade the chain size too ! Yes I'm really bored , its either do this with one hand or sit in front of the TV all day while my shoulder heals ... and I can wrap my good arm around the ty and lift it onto my workbench with one hand , so at that light weight , it may be a ball to ride !!
And as fate would have it , the day I made a no turning back now ! cut into the ty frame , A fullsize Fantic 50 became available to me !!! And I just HAVE TO get it !!! It looks to be in much better shape than my 240 was when I got her ...
Do you think folks would laugh if I rode the ty in ahrma events , as they won't let me enter me Fantic ?
Glenn
One other detail , got to add abit of metal to the steering stops ! cause right now they just miss the stops ,forktubes hit the tank and it's turning almost 85deg.!!!!
-
And I thought that would be the rigid frame line ...
-
Well I just learned something new !!! I did a quick poke about the web , found motonation.com , and got a history lesson on sidi boots !!!
Seems Sidi was sold here in the states way back in the dark ages as fullbore . I had a pair of those for at least 15 years ! might still have them except for a roomates dog a number of years ago !!!.... I had forgotten how comfy and sturdy those boots were .
They still look to be quite the ticket still .

At least Take a BUNCH of photo's for us currently Handicapped Twinshock riders on the other coast !!!
Glenn

-
And I just know , to be true to all of your roots , it'll be a no stop-no hop affair ! Have fun and post some photo's !!!
