  1. Thats because when I was a youngster (the dark ages...) growing up in new england , there were a few speedway tracks around ... One of the SCARIEST things I ever did was to try and go fast on a jawa ... nuf said :-) Glenn
  2. Makes sense , and I'm sure both will benefit in the big picture ....
  3. Hmmm , Boxer engine , 200 + hp. stock , 6speed , rear wheel drive ... I LIKE IT ! But Andy , I must ask cause this is the first I've ever heard of it . When did toyota acquire subaru on their way to being the largest auto manufacturer in the world ? And if memory serves it's pretty common for the boxer to be tweaked to a reliable 350-400 hp range without juice isn't it ? Cuz I've driven a few subs over the years that were borderline SCARY fast .... Glenn And yes I do know what fast is . I've owned a mid 9 sec 1/4 mile car , a jps twincam europa (wasn't that quick , but could be driven quite fast !) And I've driven daytona's , testi's and a few different shelbys over the years and way back when I got a ride in a group B quatro... Just making the sub rwd will lend quite a bit to having a out of the box handler !
  4. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope the little scorpa becomes the tl125 for a new generation of riders ....
  5. And I heard a statement from one of our elected burnedout lightbulbs yesterday that the cyclone in miramar was OBVIOUSLY ! caused by global warming !!! Why don't elected officials here have to pass a basic IQ test before they can run for office ?
  6. Hmmm... let me know , eccentric old guy can never have too many redheads around , must preserve the mark yaknow !!!? Glenn
  7. If you can make it , twinshocker or not , go and ride ! ITSA events are always a great ride ! Always challenging sections ,(class appropriate ! ), no splits , peer scoring , serious NO STOP rules ... And some of the greatest folks I've ever had the pleasure of riding with ! I've never driven back home without a silly grin on my face for at least a week after ! And you can always get tips and learn from like minded individuals ! A experience for any trials rider that should not be passed up ! Glenn
  8. COOL color choice . Looks like all the sleepless nites were worth it ... Now put your new baby to bed ... Glenn
  9. OD , I've gotta ask ; Do you folks up in the great white north/west have all the fantics on this continent ? I've never seen another 240 at a event down here in the southeast ... Photo's are beautiful ... someday I'll make it up there , I can stop and see my big brother in OR. on the way too ! Glenn
  10. Like Lee I run 10/44 and the more time I spend on the old girl , I find I only use first in real tight technical stuff . I'm sometimes shocked at how well the 212's will tractor when needed Glenn
  11. I never heard of the "venture bros." , I wrote it cause I'm a diehard speed racer fan ! And I had just got home from seeing the new movie with my kids ! Trixie said it a few times in the movie ... I believe it's gonna work fine for your intended purpose , ie , fantic and many others have used the engine as a stressed member of the chassis .... And besides , all it can do is break !!! So you make some accurate chassis measurements, (footpeg to front axle , tripleclamp to top shock mount etc.) Then fire it up , take her out and abuse her a weebit , then check all your reference measurements and see if anything has changed ! And I'm sure you know that if it does change , find out why and customize ! because as it moves , it fatigues and gets much weaker !! Looks way cool though , great job Glenn

    Front Brake

Wish I could but No , due to a just out of the sling broken left clavicle , I think the event on the 16th & 17th of august will be the first time I'll feel up to competing , may even bring my 12yr old and his little brothers ty80 too ! Or it maybe just a single dad escape weekend for me !... But I do know Bob can make the little honda brakes work pretty well , I've witnessed more than 1 stoppie performed on hockeyboy's tlr ! But then again he tends to do things consitantly that you shouldn't be able to do on a old honda ! He's got the touch ... Glenn

    Front Brake

Hi Tim ; long time since I had a honda but here goes : 1 , make sure cable is in good shape , both inner and outer and anchored securely . 2 , Check shoes and drum for glazing , and contamination , sand drum and or shoes as required . 3 , Make sure actuator arm/and pin are free to move in hub and that hole thru hub is not worn to bad . 4 , LIGHTLY lube pivot pin , anchor pin and anywhere shoes contact backing plate with automotive backing plate lube , be sure NONE is on shoe surface when reassembling . 5 , Reinstall front wheel , with axle bolt and pinch bolts just snug , not tightened yet . 6 , Get on bike , apply front brake , bounce front end up and down to center shoes in drum , work brake a few times and then put a zip tie on front brake lever to keep it applied , now torque all bolts , release zip tie and adjust play to your liking . 7 , If none of that helps go see Bob at B&J racing in dickson and get him to cut a set of shoes and arc them to your drum ! On my Fantic I also enlarged the axle hole in the backing plate about 20thou. with a brake wheelcylender hone (for lack of anything better at hand !) to allow it to center better . And if memory serves the honda doesn't have a backplate anchor rod like my fantic , they use a slot in the plate w/a knub on the fork tube to keep the backplate from rotating , If I'm wrong leave that loose too along in step #5 ... Hope it helps , I'm sure others will ring in with more honda specific tips ... See ya in the sections someday ... Glenn
  14. YUP !!!! No matter what country your in ...!
  15. I think DG... Hit the nail on the head ! Those of us that compete or ride different styles of bikes all know one thing deep down inside! The VERY basic trials techniques we use whenever we get on our bikes are some of the best crosstraining skills for our sport as a whole. I mean like making a full lock turn then up over a 2foot log ,only to make another 90 degree turn before your back wheel is completly on the ground , all without stopping , hopping and all inside a invisable 15ft.square box with stream crossing at the entrance and a 30ft. 45degree climb to the end gate , is not easy to do without touching the ground ! But we all take the time and practice the balance and control needed to do such things. And when you get even halfway good at it you find that any other type of bike riding is much easier... I have alot of freinds that ride motorcycles and when I tell them I ride trials , they all look at me like I'm crazy ! They all think that the XTREME sport that the top 10 or 15% do is what trials is all about ... And we know thats just not true. I try to explain that all I really need to practice to stay 1/2way in form can be done in my flat backyard, you know the basics , turning , weighting , balance ,etc... And trying to explain that all motorcycle competition evolved out of TRIALS way back when just confuses them even more ! But my point is I think The top guys are amazing !, but if that is all that most folks think of , trials will continue to grow at the snails pace it always has. The public has to know that the finesse and control we develop actually makes our sport one of the safest , family friendly sports there is . End of my rant ... Glenn
  16. Clarkp ; I think you should copyright your attitude and sell it as a air freshener only to be used at board meetings and such ! I didn't get to attend the sooner , but I would like to get to a event with the format you outlined . Glenn And NN your right in my opinion too , there has to be some accountability somewhere ...
  17. Didn't our respective governments join together and make that award illegal back in the early 70's ?
  18. Not being mean or anything but , GOOD LUCK !!! Glenn
  19. I fit in the old guy class too ...! But I ride as much as possible in both no-stop events and modern events . I came back to riding trials after a 30+ year hiatus and bought and rebuilt my fantic axle to axle ... and it was the most modern trials bike I had ever ridden at the time ! The first event I rode was a modern event and I was shocked to get a 5 in a section for doing the one move I still had down pat from my youth, A rollback to make a turn tighter ! It took me abit to understand that when I left trials in the mid 70's and that was the trickest tool in alot of folks kit (especially if you could do it quick enough and apply the rear brake , lighten the front end , then dump the clutch and turn it into a floater turn without actually ever stopping !) and now you can stop , hop , and balance and thats all ok ... But it's all about fun at the level most of us here ride at anyway , so just be clear on the rules before you start ! And I do remember watching one of the champ riders playing after the event , he went up a beyond vertical rock face about 12 feet high , with hardly a approach at it and just landed on top on his back wheel and balanced for a moment while deciding where to go next ... I just had to ask the other folks watching 'at what point did gravity get taken out of the rules ?' The new generation is absolutely amazing to watch !!!! Glenn
  20. I wouldn't be surprised if with the backing of HRC , to achieve their weight goals , if even little details like wheel valve stems and spokes/nipples are made out of titanium ! Every grain counts ! Unlimited funds for r&d probably gets written off thru advertising channels ... Glenn
  21. I know that bullet ! (beasti) Glenn
  22. Wow ! logic prevails .... Glenn
  23. It is quite unique and as you say RARE ! Someone will buy it just to park and polish it ... Couldn't have worked that great or it would have seen production ...? Ossa was THE BIKE to have for a short spell . Glenn
  24. I would really like to know what #*!!+$ bunch came up with the idea that totaly sealed , ventless gascans that become pressurized bombs due to temp. changes is a good thing ?????????? I know big brother looking out for us ... Glenn

    Ty80 Project

Looks Good ! But don't do like I did and a month or two after completing my son's ty80 . Play on it insted of your own bike and break your clavicle ! I'm still waiting to go back to work !!! I'll look at my receipts , as I got a cool seat cover from a chap on your side of the pond . I couldn't find a real good seat anywhere ! Glenn
