Or you could just use the tried & tested Card with clothespin method of hi-tech sound effects ...

Hi Bob , I beleive all the forward kick fantics hold 500cc of oil . Someone will chime in if I'm wrong .... I'm partial to silkolene light gearoil for the clutch action it delivers ...
Glenn
Mr Fracy , correct me if I'm wrong , please ...

But ya gotta admit , the bikes are just to cool ! Bet he can't build enough of them for the " IN " crowd .... Starting at 3500.00 usd.... The beaches will be full of them next summer , till someone abuses the laws on one , then the rules will change !

But Lee , I have to ask , as you had Chris on site to install your OKO , Well worth the change isn't it ??? Did yours respond like mine did to the swap ? I know I'm still loving mine ...

Hey All !!
As one of THEM ! Falcons for sure , inspect swingarm pivot closely , check headstock gussets for cracks , weld on modern peg mounts to your desired position , And go out and ride the old girl !!! then get a OKO and learn to ride it all over again ! )
Have fun , you'll love it !

I run 10wt , but thats up to you , and if memory serves I beleive 220cc of oil per leg is the spec ... And remember when putting it all back together , snug down all the fork fastners , axle, pinch bolts , fender bracket etc ... and then bounce the front suspension a few times to eliminate any binding , then torque everything down tight ... Take your time , all the peices are old and a little corroded !!! And go to http://www.r2wtrials.co.uk/ and follow the fantic links , I think Bob has downloadable spec sheets for your bike in english , and if not the 240 pro sheet will be close enough for goverment work ...
Have fun and put some silkoline light gear oil in the tranny , your clutch will thank you !!!

Try to locate the clarke plastic company website , I'm sure they make a tank that would work !

Hi Bob ,
Try http://www.tryalsshop.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=21 Mike will most likely have the seals you need in stock . As to replacing them , if you haven't done it before , I'd remove the front wheel , drain the fork oil , Remove the fork legs and take them to a competent shop to replace the seals ... As the sliders are easy to damage when removing the seals , and slowly becoming made of unobtainium. And while you have the forks off. it's a good time to repack the steering headstock bearings . It may turn out much cheaper to pay a pro to replace the seals for you .
If you still want to try it yourself , PM me and I'll try to scan the pages from a Marzocchi manual for you ...

Hi Dixie ,
My Clutch arm is right about 2cm. longer than stock , which sets the amount of cable travel required right at the limits of the domino levers . (which offer better leverage vs. cable movement than any other I've tried on mine ) If you want really lite clutch action leave the arm stock and install a hebo hydraulic clutch kit , and/or remove the return spring off the clutch arm. If you go longer than 2cm. you also force a cable bind at the anchor point , that has to be moved also . Mine works fine with one or two fingers ...
I have a previous post here somewhere on how I moved my pegs , and like you I didn't want them hanging down to far ... but the remount made quite a difference in the overall feel of the bike !
And once you get all that done , get a OKO from Classic Trials and you'll think you got a new bike !!! And Check your swingarm pivot for excessive play !!!
Keep the Fantics Alive !!!

I've only met Mark once I think , But with what I know of him , you'd be hard pressed to find a bettor mentor ...
Have fun with the TY ...!

I would think that just a tranny and clutch would make it a blast !!!!

Some guys have all the luck !!! My suggestions would be to ;
1 ,Get a shop manual and get the bike ridable (w/as small a investment as possible) so you can evaluate what it needs to be safe and reliable ...
2 ,Decide what you want to do with it ? ie. compete , practice , play whatever...
3 ,Then repair , replace , rebuild , modify , and customize to suit your wants and desires !
4 ,And remember that riding the old Ty will make you better on your modern bike !
5 , Join the ITSA and come have some fun with us other vintage/twinshock riders !
6 , Contact Bob Ginder at B&J Racing .com for parts , modifications , morale support , and to see just how truly magnificent a TY 250 can be !
Best of luck , take your time and have fun !!!

The OKO I purchased from Chris at Classic trials has worked extremely well for me and all the peices (jets etc.) are # . I do not know if they come numbered but I would presume that they would have to , otherwise jetting would be next to impossable ! If you need OKO info contact oko-carb.co.uk , That's Chris's dedicated OKO site and he is the only person I've found that truly knows the ins and outs of OKO carbs.
In fact I have to contact him about setting up a little bitty flatslide for the ty80 project I'm building for my boys to replace the flat-wore out stock carb ... !!! But I have to put it all back together first !

Craig ; Was I correct in what I told you and Phil in Florence ? Did it all get straightened out ok ? I wish I had got to meet Pat , Cause he's kinda becoming a idol to my boys you met !
Hope all is well .

After works , before can hurt !

maybe try to get the specs off another trials bike that comes with one stock , and then go to http://www.carbparts.com/keihin/needles_tu...g_your_carb.htm and fine tune it ?!
And a flatslide made a world of difference on my old 240 pro , so I'd bet you'd love it on the montesa !
good luck ,

So !! This was all about building a bike to match your vintage hodi riding pants ??? The bike sure looks great though !
And out there somewhere is a clip of guys ice racing , with the aftermath of a crash ... I saw it years ago . Pretty gruesome to say the least . (think 40hp chainsaw ...)

May be just a defective radiator cap ???

Wheel dilema solved in a afternoon !!! This afternoon a ups truck showed up with a box for me . The early 70's honda SL100 wheel and swingarm off the 'bay !! So I unpacked it and broke out the tape measure , only to find that the effort required to make the wheel and swingarm work was gonna be a lot more than intended . But A flash of insperation and I start measuring hub diameters and spoke lengths... Hmmmm may just work and there's only one way to find out ! After a whole bunch penetrating oil and a hour or so of soaking time both rims are stripped and I start lacing the xr hub into the sl rim and It works ! Got the spokes all about even tonite and I'll true it up tomorrow ... Now for some tires and shocks
I even made use of the old xr swingarm as a truing stand ...

You should be able to get ice racing spikes up in the great white north ... But they have to be vintage spikes ...

I was in the stands directly above the 2nd hairpin turn rock garden (maybe 30 feet total width , LOOSE football sized chunks of granite ? in a single layer on loose dirt , ontop of smooth concrete ...) And watching all the riders negotiate that 1 turn was amazing ! Ronnie and Phil would both come into it tight and do a clean 180 around the large log end that was the apex of the turn , and as long as there wasn't a bike on it's side in their path motored right on thru . And there was a serious total lack of attention by the teenager that was the flagman for the turn ! He was always looking elsewhere in the arena as riders stacked up on top of each other just after the apex of the turn using each other for traction !
And Chad has every right to be p****d ! But my boys got so they could spot the trials riders on enduro bikes everytime they came thru the turn , just by the way they rode . I believe now they truly understand why I want them to become competent trials trials riders , then they can go fast if they feel the need ! We watched Phil (I think , could've been ronnie , i don't remember!) between events on his enduro bike out in the pit parking lot playing doing stoppies and going over a large pile of logs at the far end of the lot and my son said how can he do that ? He's not on a trials bike ! And all I could say is when your that good of a trials rider , it doesn't much matter what kind of bike your on ...
Thanks again for the invite , it was a thrill for us all !
