I just went out and measured the stock shocks off my 240 , They are right about 14 inches long , eye center to center . I use falcons and they are GREAT , but if you can get rockshocks and the valve bits to play with , you can spend all of your free time setting your shocks up to your liking if you've got the knowledge to do so ... As to the year of the bike ... I know mine is a 83 from the origginal bill of sale I got with the bike , as to dating yours , Lee may be able to get you in the ballpark if you get him the chassis # . Although I don't think it maters much , a 240 is a 240 is a 240 ... minimal changes thru it's short production run ... (I think !) I do know they never fixed the few design flaws in the bike . But still i beleive the best out of the box twinshock ever ... Glenn
  6. To the best of my knowledge ... they did not have a dipstick . Best way to know where it should be is to change the oil , add recomended amount , look in hole after running bike for a moment , and with bike OFF , look in hole and see where it is ... if there are no leaks or excessive smoke , check it again when you put fuel in it again ...
  7. If I get a chance I'll see what I can come up with for you .... Glenn
  8. I started in New England too ! First bike ... a brigs&stratten powered , comet clutch equiped mail order mini bike (that had front AND rear suspension ! sorta ) Bought w/out motor and without parents knowledge with my paper route savings ... It arrived and I at about 8 years old put the kit together in our basement . Much to my dismay it sat there engine less for about about 3 months . Then came Xmas and low and behold There was a New sears craftsman 5hp B&S engine to go in it ... Then needless to say it got put together and since my big brother got home from school before me , I didn't get to ride it much ... But along came a yamaha mini enduro 60 (when they were still new !) and entries in the netra jr enduros ... Then a Suzuki ts90 (3/4 sized w/rotary valved engine ) Then we saw a trials event and watched Don Smith (his first year on a yamaha I think) and another young man battle year in year out for the championship . Dad got my brother a tl125 when they first came out ( to keep him out of trouble ). and we started riding Trials. My Brother Got a Full page photo of him in the world round in Rhode Island in Cycle World mag ... ! Back When Trials was Destined to be THE motorcycle sport of the future !!! But life moves on and my folks got divorced , I moved to Cali with my dad . And although I never stopped riding and competing , trials just faded away for me . And then as a single dad with 3 little kids I move to SC , and see a Clip on espn of Geoff Aaron doing a show in the spring of 04 and the embers in my heart Bust into flames And I find myself back Competing with the BEST BUNCH OF ENTHUSIASTS involved in any motorsport !!!!!!!!!!!! And Don Sweet is still one of my Hero's ! I heard he's a grampa now . His Dad used to always help us when my mom towed us to a event back then with her volkswagon 411... Glenn
  9. Hi Scrump ; In my research on Whitehawk Ty80 's (I'm 75% done doing a big wheel conversion on my boys Ty80) , From what I've found out , I don't know if they ever sold a kit for the conversion , But the one on EB is not a true Whitehawk I think , All the info I've gathered on them shows a completely different frame , using swingarm and fork extensions , The whitehawk swingarm pivot is in a different position along with the footpegs. As to tire sizes I know they used a 17' rear , but I've never found out what size front they used . I'm using the wheels , forks and steeringhead off a 89 honda xr100 , so ours will be 17 and 19 . I laced a rear rim from a old honda sl125 on to the xr hub to go from 16 to 17 . In hindsight now I shoulda left the 16 inch rim , it would've made setting up the rear suspension travel quite abit easier ... But it's gonna work great and allow my boys to compete in real novice sections that would just be about imposable on a stock wheeled ty80 , so they don't have to ride in kiddie sections , they can ride the loop with me ... And not put any extra demands on promoters to make extra little sections . Glenn
  10. Contact someone close to you that deals with Falcons , and they'll be able to hook you up with the correct shocks , and they work Great too . Good luck, Glenn

    Pandoras Box

Hi TS , I've got 3 sets of 240 springs out in the shop ,so I just went out and measured them . The 2 early pairs were 17 inches long and the later set is 18 1/2 inches . One set of forks I've got appeared to be stock , no spacers at all , and the other two sets had a assortment of pre load spacers in them . Wes makes varible rate springs that'll fit the 35 mm marzorhci's . The ones that I run now are in with a 2 inch spacer made out of pvc tube with a flat washer between the spring and pcv , so the spring doesn't wear away the plastic . The Wes springs greatly improved the front end . I currently run 10wt fork oil but may try some lighter weight when I get back to riding , As I found out today wilst moving my toolbox back to work , that I've been laid off while out on disability leave ..... Cheers , Glenn
  12. Alan , I do beleive there is one small flaw in your pit bike idea ... At every event I've EVER been to , No bikes unless being ridden by registered competitors , or staff , minders etc. is allowed to be riden anywhere ... You know ins., pit racing , etc... If you want to do a event that is TOTALLY spectator friendly , make it to Paul Thistle's STRA round at Track Rock Near Blairsville , Georgia ... Except for the snow this spring , (which was a blast to ride in !!! ) His location is about perfect ! If memory serves I don't think there was a section more than a 1/2 mile from the pits , if that . And some Fantastic sections too ! for all the classes ... ( every one was just a little different every loop , not that the snow/ice and mud had anything to do with it ... ) Glenn PS ! happy turkey day !
  13. My personal mistake ... Stopped competing / riding trials in 1973 ? or there abouts .! Wish I had never left ... Glenn

    Natc Info

Am I missing it ? What are the bike specs/rules concerning twinshock bikes ? IE , disc brakes , origanaly constructed as TS etc. etc.
  19. Let's just see if Steve bids for it . You know he could use it ! And I don't read italian , but are they offering 2 bikes ? 'cause except for the shipping costs , may be a good deal ...? Glenn
  20. I just knew you would ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. P*** , Very eloquently put ... And I feel bad for mentioning the creek at the ranch (actually the climb out of it , at times !) and not stating the Fact that at most every ITSA event there is usually a separate loop for pure novice riders if need be !!! And I personally love the loops the crew lays out ! even if sometimes by the end of the day they start to remind me of my early days as a kid riding enduros in new england ... See ya as soon as my shoulder tells me I'm ready !!! Glenn
  22. I can only add that I watched the round in Florence , SC . And I still say you guys are NUTS!!!!! But have fun anyway !!! Good luck , Glenn
  23. The head bolts should have studs rising from two of them I beleive , Lee may be able to post a photo of one of his modded bikes showing the head stay ... Glenn
  24. Turns , turns , turns , Slow relaxed and as tight as you can , for as long as you can ... Like Bernie Schriber said , Most of what you need to learn about riding trials can be learned in a flat prking lot ... Learn to relax and let the bike work underneath you ...
