  1. You don't sound too serious, try a wee Scorpa 125/143/163 4 stroke. Very civilised with a slight trail bike feel, cheap to run, hold there price. only problem might be getting hold of one.

    Reliability

That was a read. Said it before some of the riders out there would break an anvil ! Until someone in the UK starts producing a decent trials bike we're on very shaky ground knocking any make of bike. Got to be realistic ,modern bikes wont stand repeated heavy use (abuse),that's the way it is. They're not meant to last forever, they're competition bikes. Personally i find the bikes a lot more reliable than the riders.
  3. Good man, spread the word. Our local Sherco dealers out in Thailand over the Winter don't know where. I think he'll be moving out there one day, Maybe get a club going? Ditch that FF helmet unless you're really ugly! Must be others that ride trials out there? It's much more fun riding with mates. Keep up the good work.

    280I Info

Got a 2014 300 but only done 3 trials so far. Can't really fault the bike though it takes one devil of a kick to fire up. There's a few about up here and I think the problems of the earlier ones have been well documented. I have been assured by my local dealer the 14 ones the bike. He had a rider last year did a full season including the 6 days with no issues, the lad replaced it with a 15 one. Like the fact the rad doesn't get full of mud and the grip it gets is unreal. Great air filter set up and no Carb to worry about. Also i like to be a bit different,
  5. Hi Richard welcome, nearest I know is Glenlomond near Kinross which isn't on your doorstep.. Most weekends our members have at least a play or an organised trial be it ourselves,Dunfermline MCC or Lothian Trials club. If you can get on the East Scotland Trials forum it's good for local stuff. Out next beginners/clubman trials the 7th December (Combined with Mickey Oates Montesa test day) Wee bit of a trail as we're in NE Fife. No pack drill though just turn up and ride. Don't think folk were any more tolerant in 1993,you were younger and probably cared less what they said. On a serious note there's been a couple of bike thefts in your area lately so take care. Happy wobbling.
  6. Nice too see we're keeping it light. And Dadoff if I want a lecture I don't need to go on here ,I've been married 24 years, Done trials since the mid 70s,at varying levels, had most makes of bikes over the years. Help run the local club even get called trials convener, Was in the motor trade until the 90s,call my self a gardener now,but really just a glorified odd job man. Also work for a well known children's organisation. And have two Border collies. that look and act even crazier than the one in my avatar. Have a nice day!
  7. Hi Shamie, good on you, we have a load of ex roadies at our we club, even ex North West and TT winners. Most wish they had done a bit back in the day as they find trials like learning to ride a bike again. Done a few trials over your way back in the day, even got down south to Wicklow once. Was a great scene, sure it still is. Cheers the noo..
  8. HI old mate,as you know I don't subscribe to these old fashioned Carb type things these days! However,it wouldn't do any harm to take the carb off as often new bikes have "stuff" (Technical term) in the tank/carb not properly removed during manufacture. Check the tank breather and fuel pipe too. Cheers the noo.
  9. Postcode for Glenlomond KY13 9HF is the nursing home at the bottom of the road and the Montrose website gives Aberlemno as DD8 3PD. Map on the Montrose site. Glenlomond is open for a play at the discretion of the owner, I'll post details but they're in my wallet and it's missing!.
  10. Hi Marc,if you can start it you'll manage our trials. Dunfermline Club trial at Kinross on Sunday if you want to drop by. Check their site. Or try the East Scotland trials site for local stuff.. All the best
  11. Hi Glynn, welcome to trials. You say you're out every day,but that grass looks too pristine for a serious trials nut. On the oil thing ,I assume you are running 100 ml of oil to 5l of fuel giving a 50.1 ratio? Most run a bit less 70/80ml ish,100 is a bit much. Feet up as they say in some parts!
  12. I've always tried to ride something a bit different, probably why I've had so many Scorpas. Buy what you really fancy because it's not going to make much difference, everyone has an opinion on why their bikes the best. Don't really know what I would buy myself if I was feeling rich. My heart would lead my head though.

    Vertigo Launch

I would say that a low tech, cheaper bike wouldn't sell. In the past makers have made budget models, Montesa and Fantic ring a bell. Can't mind much about them so I have to assume they weren't a success. I've run a wee Scorpa 163 of and on for about 8 years . It's unbreakable , miles better than any ty I've had. So why aren't the trials full of them? Our beginners club is full of 280's and 300s.

    Vertigo Launch

This is pure speculation, however if the Vertigo is better than the rest a premium price may not be a barrier to sales. Certainly wasn't in the 80s when the TYMono arrived, queued up for them and paid full retail though it was significanty more expensive.

    Vertigo Launch

I don't think Dougie Lampkin would be backing anything that isn't a winner. Is it not great to have a British (well Yorkshire) legend developing and producing a state of the art trials machine ? I really don't know how anyone in the country can be anything but positive about this. Maybe one day we'll even build a bike here!
  16. See you there Brian , I missed the last one but I wasn't missed Have you got a decent silencer on that C15 yet?
  17. Hi Zed from Fife Scotland. Never had a visitor from Sweden at our trials but plenty Ossa's. This sites no bad as we say in these parts. Cheers the noo.
  18. Trials must be hell starting out when you're that wee bit older? Riders who have been around as long as me have so much advantage over older beginners. 76 was my first trial,Honda TL125 the bike weighed 100kg and we all rode the same route. Thing is at 13 you didn't get tired and you just bounced and someone else was paying the bills. Massive advantage and everything gets hardwired in to the brain so now you ride instinctively.. Much respect to anyone giving it a go in there 40s or older. All the ones that keep at it do get it. Best advice I can give is learn to walk before you try to run.
  19. I don't know where you got that photo of me on that Bultaco from? Excellent work!
  20. We're spoliled here, our club run about 20 events a year most a 15 minute drive away from me . £8,yes 8 miserable quid to join and a £10 adults a £5 kids to ride a trial with free food thrown in. Most weekends there is a trial within an hours drive and one of our club members has land he lets us on for a £5 All in part of Scotland with the lowest rainfall litle crime and no traffic problems. Don't tell anyone!
  21. Thanks for sharing, that beard surely didn't slow JD down!

    My Babies

Yes ,I should have said a fast idle speed,,there's lots of words down our way that can get lost in translation.
  23. Hope it's a winner,Dougies touch might make it the bike for UK conditions?
  24. Hi laud from Fife, the Bob MacGregor Academy can't be that far away at Dunlop. Get along there, bound to be plenty that will pass on advice. Can't think of any trials dealers in your area, just have to go online for the gear or visit Fife! Dalmellington's the club, wee Heather the secretary is so nice she must have some Fife blood. Happy dabbing!

    My Babies

I don't think anyone knows! A friend of mines had one for years and still doesn't know what size it is. When you ride them a 125 usually seems obvious but telling the bigger ones apart is impossible. A tip run them with a nice fast tickover,,feels much more lively and lessens the engine braking. Makes them feel about 20lb lighter.
