  1. Since we've touched on the subjects of cycling and value for money. A pal of mine just bough a new Giant XC mtb top spec, retail £5k. What do you think it will be worth in a couple of years? My estimate 2 empty crisp pokes. We trials lads get a great deal and you could win about anything on a 30 year old bike.
  2. Looks like the same set up as some of the Wee Scorpas used to come with as standard. Think they could be pricey though. I was quoted £70 ish for a slave cyl for one a few years back. No doubt Nigel at Birkett Motorsport will be able to help. BTW the cable set up on the Scorpas is just as good.
  3. Just sold a 2012 Scorpa 280sr,A chap that lives 3 miles from me has 2 2013 Sr 280s all came through Nigel Birket. Mind you they're the only ones I,ve seen.
  4. Is it quite common for folk to lose there digits in the open sprockets? Never heard of it happening?
  5. Hi,if I mind right it's 750 ml and should be marked on the clutch casing. There's a wee 8mm bolt which is a level plug hiding behind the rear brake lever. Watch how you go with the drain plug as the originals are made of toffee. I used atf,,but I think light gear oil would be suitable too. Cheers.
  6. Can't say I' remember cleaning a chain and I've been around a while. I feel it's pretty pointless when 10 yards from the start the whole thing is running in mud and water. Wouldn't leave it dry though and always oil (engine oil) it as soon as the bike is dry. Never any problems even with wee 428s that my Scorpa 175 runs You might save a bit on wear with a more particular approach. But even a tight fisted Scotsman would let it go..
  7. Great posts Dan. My feelings are the beginners and specially the first timers are the most important riders at the trial. How they are treated is critical to the future of trials. Once riders are up and running they can take care of themselves. But they need the stepping stone to get them there. Keep it nice and simple at grassroots. Think like a beginner if you want a successful club I would say.
  8. Quote "As the title says, does any one know who will be doing the Montesa service at this years SSDT? Craigs did it last year but are they doing it this year?" Word is John Deere or Eddie Stobart were interested. Only kidding, great bikes.
  9. Outside shot,if he doesn't weigh much you need the tyre pressure pretty low 3lb ish. Also does the bike pull cleanly as it comes off tickover,. Any unevenness i.e hesitation doesn't help.
  10. Yes,but bikes that give bother end up lying in the shed? Not many sales in that.
  11. Agree with the above, linkages and poor air filters are a menace in the UK. Being a Scot I'm far to mean to spend money on linkage bearings so I'm forced to run Scorpas. This is mitigated by the amount of Duct tape you need to keep water out the filters. Certainly no bike is designed with REAL UK conditions in mind.
  12. Twinshock riders have it easy these days. Never thought my Italjet was heavy Kramit. Riders were much younger then.
  13. My point would be the majority of modern bikes suffer massive depreciation in value. Round about 50%n in the first 2 years I would guess. No doubt due to them being built in a serviceable but fragile way(VAT 20% doesn't help) This must put many like myself off buying new. However.as we can't even make a decent set of snail cams here who am I to judge?
  14. Most unpopular is my Scorpa 280 which had me doing an impersonation of a mutant spider on Friday while trying to put the engine back in the frame. Had the nerve to blow a water pump seal this morning too.
  15. As above pals 2010 250 pro, mixture oil and water in flywheel cover. Any remote chance it's transmission oil? Or as I think it's coming via crank seal then mixing with water that's got into the cover. Many thanks. for replies.
  16. I've got one of the Scorpa versions. Nothing I enjoy more than sitting in a queue. telling all and sundry how rubbish there motors are compared to mine. Specially 4rt owners with there stone age single cam. Doesn' t matter if it rides like Shetland pony with piles. They don't know that.
  17. b40rt,if it is me then I'm not observing as I normally wear my Gestapo arm band. These Yams not only have mx/enduro derived engines, but archaic linkless rear suspension. Anyone want to tell me why other makes need all these bushes?
  18. Aye but the Yams not an old lawnmower engine. Anyway after that video. If I'm ever lucky enough to visit Japan mind me not to enter any club trials.
  19. There' s a video somewhere with maybe the above riders at an arena type event.(try trial japan super step step step) The sound from there bikes is incredible. The motors are twin cam 250f enduro/mx units.
  20. Are these things really that good.? Can't they be knocked off by branches,or with just moving around on the bike? Someones bound to have had a trip over the bars when somethings caught one.

    Not Starting.

I've started walking into rooms then wondering why I'm there? Sound like you're nearly there too.
  22. This sounds a real guddle. Screw the spindle in until the disc centralises in the caliper,be precise with this. You need a spacer the distance between the bearing centre and the fork leg.

    Sy250 Re-Furb

Sleeves should slide out. Must be stuck fast to the needle bearings. Probably the swingarm has been pivoting on the spindle/sleeves.. Likely you can drift/press the sleeves out The needle bearings are more of a pain. Maybe have to cut them somehow them before you drift/press them out Cheers the noo fae bonnie Fife
  24. I like that "sport is in the hands of DIY ers. Right enough most Trials riders I know sort everything themselves. Most would rather visit the dentist than take there bike to the local shop.
  25. The sales numbers are depressingly low? I suppose by making bikes so specialist hasn't helped this. It's hard to see a way forward.
