  1. Just a wild guess, Water pump seal gone. Bike eventually overheats, pressure in cooling system pressurizes gearbox and pushes coolant that's leaked in box through right side crank seal? Also I have seen same symptoms in a Gas Gas, In this case the barrel was cracked causing overheating and excess pressure that failed the waterpump seal and when engine was stopped water pressured direct into cylinder through crack.
  2. I see where your'e coming from but I bet the Fantic gave them the initial idea as it's a trials bike. When I first saw it I wondered how long it would be before we saw a production bike like it, Probably 10 years later when the patent ran out!!!
  3. Of you can do all 3 without footing when it lands, Practice them and see what you prefer.
  4. The Beta is a good workhorse, For a first bike it will be great. The Gas Gas is superior in terms of weight, Suspension and riding. The Beta will take less maintenance but the parts prices are high and mudguards are daylight robbery. Good luck and have FUN!!
  5. I remember the wire ones used to come from Castrol, They are good but in the summer you need to hammer a screwdriver in 1st to make a hole as they don't like hard ground or stones. We went over to the new type flags a few years ago but we sometimes use the big wire ones to hold the orange arrows to point the direction of the next section. If your worried about safety of the thin wire markers just make a 10mm slit in the flag at the top and bend the top part round with some long nose pliers. The problem we found with the big wire ones is you need a hammer and anvil to make them straight again as they are 3-4mm thick.
  6. I've seen a few taped up when re packed, It's just to hold the packing as you said, Masking tape or similar would be fine if needed. It's quite easy to repack these things, There's lots of info on this site if your stuck.
  7. We all know where the frame design came from!
  8. Try fitting a lighter spring and adjusting the damping, You can back of the damping enough to suit the spring.
  9. The chiefs wife was called 5 horses.............................Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag.
  10. Just stick a stiffer spring on or play with the preload adjuster by winding the spring up slightly. Unless the shock has lost all damping don't waste time and money getting a rebuild, It's expensive and probaly doesn't need it. Im down south, If your stuck, I can help out. Watch some videos of toni bou, It looks like his bike is almost bottomed out just with him standing on it!!

    Leaky Carb

If you haven't got a compressor you can put a short length of fuel line in the end of your foot pump and stamp away to blow through the bits in the carb. Sounds like the float valve needs replacing or there's some muck in it like others have said. Be carefull when adjusting the floats, A properly set up Mikuni will dribble some fuel when bounced about or parked at an angle. There's some so called leaking carb fix posts on here that will make the bike run too lean by over adjusting floats. If it wasn't leaking before, find the root of the problem but don't dive straight in and adjust floats unless it's a last resort. Check the floats have not gone porus, They can fill up with fuel, Give them a shake to make sure they are empty.
  13. S3 made barrels and pistons for that year of Sherco, They just were not branded as the fancy ones S3 does. In general Sherco parts are cheaper than every other brand especially Beta and Montesa. How on earth did you sieze the bike up, You will probably need more than just rings, Probably re plate and a piston too unless you want to bodge it like a tractor.
  14. I know it's strayed off topic and not gas gas specific but straying to the route of trials future in general rather than just gas gas, Sorry in advance for off topic slightly.
  15. Our club has been doing an arena demo at a big steam and craft show for the last couple of years. We try to make the sport seem accessible to new riders. We have a couple of experts for entertainment but the bulk of riders are youths and clubmen riding sensible stuff, We have a big photo display of real trials so people realise what we do in the woods at weekends and not ride over skips for a hobby. We have modern, twinshock, pre 65 and osets at the show and we hand out lots of leaflets. It would be good for the sport if other clubs did the same throughout the country even on a smaller scale.
  16. I'm not against a minimum weight limit but it has to be capped at what modern bikes are at the moment or new bike sales will be hit hard. It will cause a riot if older bikes had to have weights fitted and the thought of having to weigh bikes at a club trial doesn't bear thinking of. As dadof stated, they did spend alot on the new pro engine but the old txt lump weighs about 28kg so they had to do something and I guess they went all out to make sure the design would be competitive 10 years later, It could have been stronger though and a touch heavier and still be the lightest for the next 10 years. I'm not against twinshocks, I love them but would have to spend alot buying one and double that to make it as competitive as most of the others. That's why I'm building an Aircooled mono at the moment. Classics are not the best bikes to learn to ride on compared to modern, Many people go classic but they are mainly seasoned riders not newbies. Whatever you do with the bikes it doesn't matter, It's the exposure and promotion of the sport that will get new riders to make trials survive. Look at Motocross and Enduro, Dearer bikes, Dearer to compete and it's bigger than trials 10 fold because in the kids (and chavs) eyes it's the exiting, cool thing to do and they know about it as it's more exiting to watch on youtube.
  17. It depends on what type of light. If it's a proper light for a trials bike, Look on the beta website for a wiring diagram it will show you how it's connected, You will also need a switch. It's probably better to get a friend who has a basic knowledge of this sort of stuff to help you. If you are fitting a standard type trials light like most modern bikes come with (LED) you wont see anything in the dark with it anyway!!! Either way best of luck to you :-)
  18. I see where your coming from, But if they start making, say for instance 75kg bikes I won't be buying a new one. I, along with many others, will keep mine going until spares run out for it. Gas Gas have now stopped Magnesium cases on the racing and factory (raga) from 2014, That might have something to do with the recent FIM weight limits. I think bikes have hit the limit at the moment, a 2005 GG is only slightly heavier in the real world than the 15 model. If bikes were limited to 67 to 69 kg that would be fine as they can be fairly strong and still light. Bikes still have to evolve to sell, but suspension improvements and fuel injection should be the big one, rather than shaving weight. Gas Gas did do a heavier econo model for the U.S, I wonder if that sold well?
  19. In reply to a few different posts. Bring back junior kickstart, This is responsible for a large part of todays riders. Youth numbers are low because the current generation of parents can not be ar5ed to spend time with their kids, they buy x boxes to keep them occupied, also they think trials is that stuff they see at the red bull street trials and such, The average person will not look at that and think I can have a go at that! Low tech heavy bikes do not sell well, Ie scorpa sy and tyf's. New trials riders don't buy new bikes anyway, Our club has a lot of new riders over the last 3 years including youths. Newbies buy a cheap £800 bike to start with and upgrade gradualy over time. A 90KG, Strong new Gas Gas will not get people into the sport, It will just make existing riders keep their old bikes for 10 years, Used bikes will be more expensive for newcomers and all the manufactures will go bust anyway. The heavy bike fans have priced the classic side of the sport out of reach and will not attract new riders. Middle aged, high earning, riders started to pay over the odds for Fantics and Tlr's then spend 1000's tricking them up. Now a barn find Yam Ty isn't affordable anymore.
  20. Is this the bike you said was knocking a few weeks ago and you thought you needed a piston? Could be linked to this problem. Remove the flywheel and trace where the yellow wire joins the stator coil then use a multimeter to see if there is a break in the wire. Bradford ignitions could repair the stator if it's at fault. Also check the yellow wire is not shorting to ground anywhere, Check the wire with the rectifier and regulator unplugged.
  21. Typical Gas Gas, Just make sure you engage the kickstart gear by moving the lever till it catches then give it a good prod to get the motor spinning, can take 2 or 3 kicks when warm depends on luck. It's important to engage it 1st so you don't smash the teeth up. Ex Sherco owners have it to a tee as they slip unless you pre engage them.
  22. Looks like a few Gasser frames have broken now, It's strange how Raga, Crosset and Dupont can push the bikes way beyond the limit and not break them, They don't even reinforce the frames on the stunt bikes. Have seen Beta rev 3 and lots of 09 Evos with cracked frames and a few Sherco's also, My old one included, that needed repair and beefing up in 6 places. Maybe there's some truth in the Chinese frame theory. The Gasser frame looks like it would benefit from plates either side.
  23. The Rev 3 shock is quite a hefty unit, It works, but I find the Rev 3 rear end and also the Scorpa SY with the same set up, is prehistoric compared to modern set ups. By using a linkage, the rear shock can be a lot lighter with a lighter spring and this is made possible by the lever effect of the linkage. Manufacturers wouldn't go to all the hassle and expense of designing and making lots of extra parts if it wasn't needed. I like the idea of the JTG shock position, The biggest problem with shocks is heat soak from exhausts. I would like to see the rear shock on the JTG moved over 10mm or so and a protector fitted as if you land it on a rock its a 500 liability.
  24. The X11 is a fantastic tyre. The X-light is also as good grip wise. They Are the best 2 tires by miles. The X-light needs slightly higher pressures due to the soft sidewalls. On a modern bike use an X-light. If its an older or heavy bike, your'e better off with the X-11.
