  1. Sorry bezaboy, It is not that sort of trial, it is a trial for classic trials machines, ridden by competent riders, over sections that have been used for years to determine the most expert trials rider in Britain. Typical of those sections is Ashfield, a rocky stream on Mr Price's land just south of Rhayader town centre, the image shows one of the sidecar entrants back in the 1970s, entering the more difficult part of Ashfield where the bigger rocks start - it continues up the stream for a further 60 metres before turning left, climbing out of the stream then up a sharp climb over tree roots, that climb is about 17 metres, very slippery. Enjoy.
  2. Why Parents Drink A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an Envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to 'Dad.' With the worst premonition he opened the envelope With trembling hands and read the letter. Dear Dad It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it' s not only the passion...Dad she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can Get to know your grandchildren. Love, Your Son John PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house. I Just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than a Report card That's in my centre desk drawer. I love you. Call me when it's safe to come home
  3. Sorry Bulto, This is not a sales pitch - but if you have a real interest in the events held on Army estates, not only around Aldershot and Bordon, but also above Builth Wells on Eppynt, etc., then there are plenty of details in our digital magazine ORRe which is exclusively available as an additional resource of trialscentral. I would happily try to post them all directly, as you suggest, but sadly there are only so many hours in a day - so since ORRe is, if you like, our classic arm - it has to be restricted. There is another aspect, whereas trialscentral would naturally concentrate on the trials, there were many other events such as scrambles, racing on Eppynt and also the ISDT over the years, which are all included in the magazine. Try it and see...........
  4. I doubt if that's a real problem - otherwise why is the Pre-65 Scottish oversubscribed every year, in spite of needing roadwork? No Rappers is right, clubs need to get their advance warnings out in the right places, and sadly that is no longer TMX - they have lost their way. Then again I was responsible for initially resurrecting the event, and nobody even told me that it was available this year - had they done I would most certainly have given it plenty of publicity here on 'tc' complete with photographs to whet people's appetites. Like Rappers says, it's up to clubs ...................
  5. Hi, For those interested in images of SWM machines, here is a shot from the 1982 Scott trial at Orgate Falls of John Hemingway. There will be plenty more in our digital magazine where we are about to do a series of features of photoreports of trials in the 1980s - and there, of course, there are no irritating watermarks! Enjoy.
  6. Metisse has explained the system in use where he is now living - but the lad originated in our midst, and rode his Ariel replica both in pre-65 events - but also in local club events where there was much satisfaction to be gained in beating riders on the current machines of the day, mainly Bultacos and Montesas in his case. 7. What did the blonde ask her doctor when he told her she was pregnant? 'Is it mine?'
  8. Betty Smith obituary. 17-10-2016. The passing of Betty Smith on Sunday at her home at Spofforth ended part of a golden era in world trials championship events staged by the Wetherby Motor Club. With her husband Ken and late son Les and his wife Maggie they took on and pioneered the staging of world championships at Marsett and Bewerley. The first was when the legendary Ken’s Canyon was centre stage and Eddy Lejuene and Steve Saunders rode Rothman RTL Hondas. In total the Smith family played a major role in six FIM world championship plus the Superstars events. Betty is survived by her husband Ken, after whom the section "Ken's Canyon" was named, to whom we offer our deep sympathies. Sorry took so long to get back, but now have funeral arrangements for Betty Smith. It will be held at Stonefall Cemetary,Wetherby Road,Harrogate, on Thursday 27th October at 11.00am. I understand this may not get to press in time, but we had a few complications that delayed arrangements.
  9. Sorry, It isn't a trials model, Eng number would include G3C, and they had areadsy gone to alloy motors before they went to a spring frame, not a trials frame either - but having said that could still be a load of fun in the right trials - as long as you just want to be joining in - not winning trophies. Full development history - model by model, year by year is in our digital magazine. To whet your appetite here is an AMC sales poster picture of the 347cc trials model introduced in September 1958 as the 1959 model, seen here in Matchless colours. The noticeable point of this model, immediately dubbed the ‘Jackson Replica’ but never sold as such by the factory, was the flattened tube ends of the swinging arm around the wheel spindle. All its predecessors were longer and heavily lugged at this point. Note that the rear suspension units were the same length, 15.5”, as those fitted to the lightweight 250s, except the spring rates were different and the trials models had the adjustable spring preload.
  10. Yamahas (and variants!) get used for all sorts of off-road fun! How about classic scrambling (now regularly featured in our digital magazine, if you are interested) where we see this action shot of Shawn Mallows and Geoff Wolfe on their Yamaha 1000 Wasp model at the Mortimer Classic meeting in September. Comprehensive photoreport by Gary Dowshall in issues 47 and 48.(No watermarks in the mag!) Enjoy
  11. Montesas get used for all sorts of off-road fun! How about classic scrambling (now regularly featured in our digital magazine, if you are interested) where we see this action shot of Chris Hardy on his 1973 250cc model at the Mortimer Classic meeting in September. Comprehensive photoreport by Gary Dowshall in issues 47 and 48.(No watermarks in the mag!) Enjoy
  12. Bultacos get used for all sorts of off-road fun! How about classic scrambling (now regularly featured in our digital magazine, if you are interested) where we see this action shot of Richard Pashley on his 1970 model at the Mortimer Classic meeting in September. Comprehensive photoreport by Gary Dowshall in issues 47 and 48.(No watermarks in the mag!) Enjoy
  13. Two blondes are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. She opens it, looks in the mirror and says, 'Hmm, this person looks familiar.' The second blonde says, 'Here, let me see!' So the first blonde hands her the compact. The second one looks in the mirror and says, 'You dummy, it's me!'
  14. A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning. The wife, fortunately a blonde, picked up the phone, listened a moment and said: 'How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!' and hung up. The husband said, 'Who was that?' The wife said, 'I don't know, some woman wanting to know if the coast is clear.'
  15. One of the biggest mistakes made by newcomers to the sport is too use bottom gear too much. Often you get far better control, particularly of wheelspin in awkward places, by being in a higher gear with less throttle. Several expert riders told me; "Bottom gear is for emergency starts, just to get the wheels rolling......" That definitely helped me - but, whatever, enjoy.
  16. Tech support: How may I help you? Customer: I'm writing my first email. Tech support: OK, and what seems to be the problem? Customer: Well, I have the letter 'a' in the address, but how do I get the little circle around it?
  17. I was walking down the road when I saw an Afghan bloke standing on a fifth floor balcony, shaking a carpet. I shouted up to him, "What's up Abdul, won't it start?"
  18. Tech support: 'Okay Bob, let's press the control and escape keys at the same time. That brings up a task list In the middle of the screen. Now type the letter 'P' to bring up the Program Manager.' Customer: I don't have a P. Tech support: On your keyboard, Bob. Customer: What do you mean? Tech support: 'P'.....on your keyboard, Bob. Customer: I'M NOT GOING TO DO THAT
  19. Hi, The Scott Trial programmes are due back from the printers next week and should be available by about October 12 either direct from Richmond Motor Club or in shops and garages in the Richmond/Reeth/Leyburn areas. Alan Lampkin will have copies available. The cost is £5.00 plus P and p of roughly £2.50. There are profiles of David Allinson, Martin Lampkin and Stephanie Wood and also landowners on the Scott Trial course. Here are a couple of images from the 1988 trial, taken on Surrender
  20. I wonder if Will (make sure your leg is FULLY healed before you stress it) is thinking about these sort of sections when he mentions the trials I used to organise. The action shot is the lad himself climbing one of my favourite sections in the Tour of Islwyn. The AA Recovery shot shows Jack Matthews exiting left, winded after looping his outfit in my third sub at Cwmderw in my Frank Jones trial, whilst Will and Andy Hay try to get the outfit sorted and out of the section. All good clean fun...........
  21. Times are hard in North Yorkshire. This immigrant from Ripon was told that is was a diamond mine, not a disused lead mine at Cockhill Mines. The Press job is in such a bad way that he thought he would make a killing at Greenhow on Sunday.............
  22. When asked how she was getting on as a sidecar passenger in the British Sidecar round Karen Crabtree had to admit she had been dumped twice by Chris Dello............ Photos by Jack Knoops.

  25. Hi, Remember that the motivation behind the Scott trial - unique in many respects - has always centred on raising monies for charities, a major element of which is collected from programme sales. Programmes don't just happen overnight, particularly when revenue from supporting advertising has to be raised - and 'spilling the beans' early by publishing an entry list in the media could well result in the end of a lot of support. Members of the press should, of course, be exceptions to the rule and ought, by now, to have been given a copy of the entry, embargoed for publication until the day of release of programmes for sale, so that they can plan their press coverage and help to build the interest up to the day of the trial. Without that 'build-up' how is Joe Public going to know where to look for programmes? If that has not happened yet, then lack of support from the press should not be unexpected - especially if it is found that one branch has been given advance privileged information. When all is said and done, the entire conduct of the press releases, etc., lies in the Secretary of the Meeting's responsibility, who relies on the support from the minor officials such as the Clerk of the Course, responsible for section selection and routing, after personally requesting and double checking all the landowners consents. This is not just my view, having organised many hundreds of events, up to and including national championships and international events, I at least understand the necessary aspects of ALL of the jobs.
