  1. The fly wheel needs to come off and you'd be surprised at the amount of times a rubbed wire can stop play. Stators are best left to people that know, lots of firms are out there, I've used West Country Windings before, but they may be others on this site who can say whether there are issues with these Stators. Take the fly wheel off and have a good visual check..... Good luck...

I've used the Halfords own brand speedo on a converted MX bike.......make sure when fitting you take into account the profile of the tyre, not rely on the rim size and use a good quality glue when gluing on the magnet. It worked very well for the time I had the bike and better still, didn't get a ticket from the speed camera vans.!

  4. Woody is spot on, except, if the horn was fitted from standard then it can be a bulb type, so to avoid any embarrassment get a Halfords 9v cycle horn, loud, cheap and passes the test. No lights, reflectors, speedo etc required. Remember, if it has knobblies , it won't go on the brake roller, so may have to be a rolling brake test on the road. If your trailering it there, take a helmet with you as the tester may want you in the chair to test.......

  6. Not so much hero's but riders around in the 80's & 90's, What happen to, Tony Scarlett, Peter Cartwright et al. Are they still competing..... I remember owning an ex Russ Kerridge, Holden Ossa, what happened to Russ. Do old trials riders have their final five, or do they go clean away.
  7. If the compression is still good and it doesn't rattle, leave it alone and enjoy..... Don't fix what isn't broke, springs to mind.
  8. IRC tyres, or Indian Rubber Company, should be road regal. If it has a "E" number on the side wall, showing its type approved, then this type approval is for use on a road, therefore making it road legal, and the MOT examiner should pass them. Any issues contact your local VOSA, test station or office, and they will instruct the MOT tester accordingly.
  9. Hello Roger, Welcome on board, you'll wish you'd got involved earlier. Where about's are you in the country, and are you or have you tried a competition yet? I had a Techno back abit and it will always be better than most of us, Dougie did win a world championship on them, so what hope us mortals! Enjoy your riding and never feel pushed to do something you don't want to do, there is no shame in asking for a 5.

    No Starty ?

    Have you tried a new plug. Sometimes you get a spark when there's no pressure on the plug, but the electrodes are weak, and when in the head it loses the ability to spark, basically it shorts out. Try a new spark plug first, and make sure you have fuel coming through.......
  12. It is possible that the kick start gears are damaged and what's been heard is the slippage as a result. What's you kicking style like? Some people pop the kicker out and kick down on it straight away, which causes the damage. Light pressure should be applied first to get all the cogs engaging. Which type of starter are you. If your the take up the slack and engage all the cogs first type then you should have nothing to worry about, and the noise is most likely what canada280i suggests. If your the other type, you might want to have a look in. Have your recently drained the oil and found any metal swathe?
  13. They'd definitely tell you, or go to the www.beta-uk.com website and follow the bike guides which describe what year bike has what goodies on it. I used JLI a lot when I had my Techno, very helpful, and for the cost of the international call, you'll have an answer. No brainer really.

  15. Contact JLI, John Lampkin Imports, the Beta UK importer and they should be able to tell you. They use the numbers to age the bikes to ensure you get the correct parts to fix........
  16. You could also try a strip of plaster at the back of your ankle or some of those "tubey grip" style ankle supports which will offer protection. Not only will they protect buy they will bulk up the area, the same as a big sock.
  17. Dependant on where you are in the UK, the best thing you can do is go along to a dealer test day.......that way you can ride many different bikes without committing to anyone first. The other option is go along to a dealer that has a wide secondhand selection and have a go on one. This is getting harder with the demise of BVM, who had the whole range in stock, secondhand, but can be still achieved. I only name BVM as I'm in the South and don't know many northern dealers, but I know they're there. Final option, go along to a trial, watch the bikes, see them in action, make a mental note of the ones you like the look off, or sound off etc, then go find a secondhand one to view & try out. Most trials riders, if you talk to them at the end of the trial, and ask about their bikes etc etc, most will offer you a go in the car park. Good luck with your search, you have loads of options.......

    When I had a 1995 Techno, the CDI was attached to the left hand spar, immediately behind the head stock. As I recall it was a very tight fit.....
  19. Sports direct sell some muddy fox stuff which my son used for a while and were very good considering what you pay..... He used the soft ones that you pull on along the arm rather than the hard shell ones that Velcro on, as he said as he rode the Velcro ones had to be adjusted as they got tighter, but the soft ones didn't.
  20. Is it possible your referring to the spoke adjusters on your rear wheel. Are you talking about the small nut half way along each rear spoke to maintain the correct tension on each spoke to ensure the rear wheel runs true. If you are, then sweat not, as these are normal.......
  21. Another technique to try, although toetoe's does work, is turn on fuel, choke on, two big handfuls of throttle, roll kickstart over to find TDC and then one kick with the throttle closed, only opening when the engine takes. I had a 321, good bike, and did use this starting technique.
