  1. Pop into your local engineering workshop and get them put in a centre lathe and just take 2mm off the nut. Cost you a couple of quid, but worth it.
  2. Googles got a few piccies, have a look and decide.....
  3. Have you tried Sandifords?
  4. If you go the Birketts website, you can download an owners manual etc. that'll answer most of your questions. i use super unleaded, and silkolene 2T oil. I use Galfer pads as I like the feel, others will tell you otherwise. i only use Silkolene also, as it's what I can get, decent quality that is, locally. its all down to choice and availability really. If you support your local bike shop, use what they can supply, because the option of always being welcome to put your head round their door and ask technical questions, might out way getting other brands on line! just my thoughts.........
  5. Won't start unless, wound open.......(fuel blockage in carb), shouldn't be wound open, full beans to start. Mine used to start, no throttle, just choke when cold, then only slightly cracked open, no choke, when hot. Remove carb and clean it out, check the fuel filter, I take it it's an in line one, is the right way round ? With removing the carb, unscrew the top, where the cable goes in, the top with cable and the carb slide will all come out, leaving the carb body in situ, remove that and clean everything, if you can sonic clean it, do. The slide and cable you can disassemble if you want, or just check for damage and use carb cleaner on prior to it going back in, making sure you match up the slide rail notches, you'll see what I mean when you do it. Good luck, they are simple really, don't loose anything, and if you unscrew anything, make a note of how far in/out it was for when you reassemble!
  6. It may just be the forks are mis-aligned or the rear wheel is slanted, check for all the basics first, it may be something easy to fix!
  7. Dependent on age of the bike you want, get a Beta 200, best for returning to trials. A late model, TYZ engined Scorpa, nice soft useable power is also very forgiving and will put a big smile on your face and still be competitive. Modern 250's and above, unless your intermediate to expert status, are of no use to returning riders or clubman/novice riders. Too quick to light up and can be a handful and, like the wife, very unforgiving!
  8. Simple, don't use the VW supplied tow bar, look around and get one from Towsure or similar. It'll be about a quarter of the cost , do now you can afford one. Had a similar issue with my CRV , but VW prices are even more ridiculous that Hondas!
  9. Try tech pages on John Lampkins website. should be able to download what you need. good luck starting out with your 300 !? ? ?
  10. I've seen it used on front pipes where caustic soda is put in the expansion/front pipe, a bit of water or other actuator is added and either corks or potatoes are pushed on either end to keep the mixture in it. The spuds will pop out, so stand clear, and use marigolds and glasses! It will strip out a coked up expansion pipe easily, but rinse through with warm/hot water when finished. Easier method is oxyacetylene torch and burn off coke up.
  11. I agree with pretty much everything that's being written.... How many of us remember the T&MX news build up to the SSDT , it was 4 to 6 pages of the gossip, pictures of the specials being ridden, I think in 1981 or 82 someone rode a Puch Dalesman and Roger Holden the Ossa importer had a couple of cantelever specials entered, and to read it all in the paper with all the other info was great. It wasn't just just reports on bike fixes, it had the lot! Not all of us can compete all the time, so reading others exploits, or details of practice etc. etc. is ideal and we could do with a bit more of it. I do enjoy the bike resto reports and the interesting fixes for bikes that go wrong, not sometimes the modern bike fixes gets a bit too much. Of course, with the current situation going on, theres not a lot to report on, but when we all bounce back, let's hear about the exploits!
  12. The techno looks nice and clean and the fork rake looks about right. if your new to trials get a slow action throttle on her and consider a fly wheel weight. Good starter bike. As for turns it'll want to wash out with too much throttle action or speed, so precision is the key. Try some lock to lock figure of eight practice turns in each direction to get used to it. good luck, enjoy!
  13. Return Spring snapped or popped out of it mount,
  14. Does your wife need a 270? The smaller capacity Revs , 125 or 200, pop less, are quieter and in an inexperienced riders hands, possibly a better bike. If she doesn't want to ride it, consider a smaller capacity one, you want the noise to put her off riding trials!

    Scorpa carb

There's a good Scorpa breaker that has lots of stuff on eBay. You can search for for them as "scorpas-alive" If you send them a question, they'll answer with advice or tell you if they have the part. Ive used them and they seem good.
  16. Do you need to isolate in Shetland, I thought it was like that all the time up there! ????

    Fantic 303?

    I've sent you a private message !

    Fantic 303?

Not a 303 as this was 249cc. The 243 was 212cc and the 203 a 156cc engine , throwbacks to the 200, 240 and 300 twinshock fantics. Sounds like you have a 3 series, 80cc Fantic. What it's worth is dependent on condition, how it runs and always most importantly, what someone is prepared to pay!
  19. He was always going to be "Damned if he did, Damned if he didn't" if he acted on the scientific advice he was given, then that's all he could do! i guess this year's Summer Series is off then?
  20. This is merely a glitch for mankind, we've had many, as history shows, and as a species we move on and build, and go on to better things. Yes, people will loose loved ones, which we all know this is tremendously sad, but we will move on, hopefully with wonderful memories of the ones we've lost. As some companies/ businesses may struggle and perish as a result of this virus, when we do move on, there will always be someone else who steps up to fill the void. Things as we know it will not stop, they will just evolve. This should be a time to remain positive, try and be optimistic and think of the future, not dwell in a past.
  21. Tool station on line as well!
  22. What about a 2T Beta 200. perfect novice bike! Scorpa, TYZ engined, also very forgiving, cheap and strong. Good to learn basics on.
  23. I've seen a welder friend do his ty250 mono with 6mm mild steel plate! Not sure if this helps. He rides regular and they don't move, twist or buckle and he's fairly happy! put it this was, the pegs are not the cause of him constantly falling off !!! ?
  24. You've done everything that most of us would check. now go back and double check all connectors and continuities. If everything else is new, it's going to be something simple that gets overlooked or discounted through speed.
