  1. Before you do anything else, remove any switches totally , and ensure you still have a spark. This will confirm its a switch issue rather than a more serious bike issue, possibly caused by the switch change over. A lot of wires when in plastic cases/shrouds when moved around and manipulated when they're old will just snap, unseen. You may need to start continuity testing wires once you know where the fault lies.
  2. If your last boots lasted 16 years, why change brand if there's a pair you've obviously liked and have lasted! That said, I've tried on Sidi boots and they pinched, Gaerne for me all the way, good fit, accurate sizing and well made.
  3. Have you tried Trials Bike Breakers? It'll be the same as the 309, etc, if I remember all the air cooled ones of that era had the same box and it only changed when the water cooled 311 came on scene.......
  4. Saw that one and the promise of some old and new bikes, being reviewed with kit and tools being looked at was enough to make me subscribe. What else have we got to do!
  5. Being a Southener, could somebody enlighten me as to who the front man is. Ive watched a few and it's entertaining with some interesting stuff in it, but aimed at newer trials riders, I think.
  6. I use UFO enduro/MX trousers. They have a Lycra panel in them, so stretch well and are quite loose fitting also. Got them from MD Racing in Yeovil, really good value. Wulf sport do some as well. I am, as I suspect a lot of us are, too old for the full spandex/Lycra outfit, and at my standards, it may be the only thing that looks the part as my riding will undoubtedly let the whole impression down.
  7. What about a UK veterans championship then. john Lampkin, Steve Saunders, Tony Scarlett, Rob Sartin, rob Crawford etc. all out on on their old mounts! Again, I think I'd watch that?
  8. I'd turn up to watch, wouldn't be fantastic to see them all compete again on the old classic machines.
  9. You could also try Trials Bike Breakers, they may have a decent pre used item.
  10. Wow, throwback to the 80's, check out them tyres! nice looking resto.
  11. Reeming tool welded onto an extension bar to get down in? It wouldn't weaken it that much.
  12. Hello and welcome. Trials, as you'll discover, is possibly the friendliest of all the motorsports fields and newcomers are always welcome. We know it's the newcomers that keep the sport alive! Do not be worried or concerned about being "the only newbie in the village" at your first event, everyone will be helpful , offer advice and within long you'll meet some other riders who you tag along with and they will help, guide and advice you. In short you'll be accepted immediately and love the sport. One word of advice first though, try not to practice semi difficult stuff on your own, if you fall and hurt yourself etc., then there will be no one around to help or get help. Before long however, you'll know people to practice with and join a decent club and they may have a practice ground where other riders will also be. embrace and enjoy your new hobby, don't sweat the newness of it, just enjoy it. Take care, keep us posted.
  13. I'm fairly sure InMotion has some at similar money, better to buy local, if anything goes wrong, Dave is a top bloke and will sort it, you support the UK trials scene and you know your getting a proven product..
  14. A company would charge a fortune, you may be better putting it on here as an offer for someone to do, which you finance, as there's a lot of keen folk who may do it for the pleasure of the project but can't afford the donor bike and parts but would do yours therefore keeping your costs down! If you don't ask, you don't get, its worth a go!
  15. I have done this as well, never had to show a speedo, but a £20 digital Halfords one will do.....it'll comply with the law, so must be accepted!
  16. I'm a bit heavier than you and a 290/300 will sometimes take my weight on the kicker at the right point. Normally either exactly TDC or the complete opposite at the base of the stroke. if it's not the woodruff key, make sure the stator plate screws are all tight and the stator hasn't moved round a bit......
  17. You can always drop one of the fence panels and head into the woods beyond ??
  18. Possibly the piston, being the smaller metal object will expand more due to heat that the cylinder, which also benefits from its cooling. Id say the tolerances were too close, and you'd need a bit more. Have you contacted John Lampkins for proper advice, they'd know for sure!
  19. I thought the FM350 was the 201 with the 156cc engine.
  20. It's a French make, only for a couple of years, never really took off, and not overly popular. Nice looking and good spec, avoided now as too limited to get spares etc. https://www.classictrialsgb.co.uk/jcm https://www.pressreader.com/uk/classic-trial/20151201/281681138803178 dont use the Aprilia frame, that would just be a rebuild with another engine. Make a mono special, something individual and unique!
  21. Old Beta TR34 chassis, or JCM's chassis would be a good starter. JCMs , you can't give away at the moment, if you can find one, so a good cheap option. If not what about a TY mono chassis, loads around and possibly easy modded!
  22. I've used one, on and off, I am 100kgs at 6'4", so my method may be a bit different to yours, but a couple of blips of the throttle, pre-kicking then leave it alone. Tweek kickstart to TDC and then one good firm, kick down at a fairly good pace, not slow! give it a go.....
  23. Never seen the ethonol stabiliser, good call, I'll have to get some....
  24. It must get truly demoralising, in the same way it is for me, watching the top lads ride stuff and clean that I can only dream of, for our "Top" UK riders to watch the same riders always beating them and all the plaudits go to the normal few. i can understand why a few seasons and their done. Dibs has done a fantastic job waving the union flag at TrialGP for so long, but with younger, more hungry riders from other countries getting the lions share of sponsorship, the older guard either have to stand aside, or be unceremoniously moved. Better to go with your head held high, which, in my opinion, he's doing. the Spanish riders get a lot of support to bring them along and the sports governing body there gets and arranges financial support for their up and coming riders. Is this our fault, we don't do the same, and as a result we have good riders but not truly world class, quite yet! Heres hoping for the future, enjoyment retirement from TrialGP Dibs!
  25. Has to be clutch it's the only element that you have touched/tweeked then the noise has started. have you sheared a bit of plate off, clutch nut loose, clutch basket lugs detached! Take the clutch off and have a look. If the tops off, the clutch is even less bother to do, why wouldn't you?
