  1. If it runs and doesn't make any horrible noises I would bite his arm off at £500, this bike will get you started on the basics and in a years time you can move it on. Too many people spend too much to start in this sport and then get despondent when they can't replicate what Raga and Bou can do.
  2. Put the bike up on a box/bike stand so the rear wheel is off the ground, take out the spark plug, now you should be able to turn the engine over by rotating the rear wheel. Doing this you will also be able to select through the gears to prove the box works. Once happy that side of it works check over your clutch actuation, ie does the clutch arm move when the clutch lever is pulled in and does it feel like the clutch is being operated. Then as said above get her started up in a safe area ie a field, get the bike started moving with a push and then put it into gear and ride around with the clutch pulled in and with a bit of engine heat and application of the brakes the clutch should break free. (It's worth a try as tens minutes of riding around beats a clutch strip every time) I had an old Gasgas 125 that my son used occasionally and every time it came out of the shed I had to break out the clutch as above.
  3. I ride a 2014 Gasgas, I have had 5 Gasgas bikes over the years and I do not understand this fixation with build quality. I can honestly say I have never had an incident that I can blame on 'build quality', I could point the finger at other makes but would rather point out that they just had 5 bikes out of the top 10 in the Scottish. I did recently test ride the TRS in both 300 and 250 capacity and I would say it rides just like my bike, I felt instantly at home on it and if I were to get a new bike it would be either the TRS or another Gasser. If you can test ride before you buy that has got to be the best option
  4. I have a Gasgas 2014 300 racing that has the Stars adjustable capacity cylinder head fitted as standard, putting the low compression insert into it made a massive difference. I also use the flywheel weight and a 10 tooth sprocket both also make a big difference to the way the bike rides.
  5. No, the points gap should be set once it has been opened fully by the cam on the back of the flywheel, then you set the ignition timing by rotating the crank up to top dead centre, finding the position of 2.7mm before top dead centre (BTDC) at which point the points should just be opening hence the use of a 'piece of fag paper' The fag paper or Thou feeler gauge is held in the closed points and as you adjust the position of the points backing plate to adjust the timing the correct position is when the fag paper is released, this is when the points are just being opened by the cam on the back of the flywheel Hope that makes sense !
  6. No , don't waste your time, that's better spent riding the bike.
  7. It will feel sluggish when compared to a KTM (enduro bike, 2 stroke ? ) If it had a strong power band it would just spin up in the mud and not work as a trials bike ! If you are new to the sport can you find a club near to you and go along and see how other bikes work to compare as we cannot get a feel for it over the Internet. looks to be in tidy condition, welcome to the world of motorcycle Trails.
  8. Interesting to see in the Kia round final instructions for this coming weekends trial that sections are to be 'ridden in order, no doubling up and no crossing to other sections' Big entry multiple start points and I imagine this queueing problem has occurred at previous rounds for it to now be reiterated in the riders instructions.
  9. Part of the fun ? I do hope you are trying to be funny, if your not please take up another sport as that sort of 'sportsmanship' is just not needed. I left childish things behind when I was no longer a child.
  10. Provided it's organised by the officials it seems to becoming the norm, that is not the same as individuals changing the sequence of sections to suit their desire not to queue.
  11. Where can you get a Dunlop for anywhere near half the price of a Michelin ?
  12. I thought all competition tires were made to a standard with regard to overall dimensions and tread pattern, why do you think there is a difference ?
  13. Just got back from a fabulous weekend of trials with the 'South West Classic Trials Association' (Congratulations to everyone involved in arranging such a superb event ) , only thing to spoil the event in my view was the selfish view some take with regard to queueing at the sections. We all know it's a multi lap event with lots of riders, so a couple of sections end up with queues of say 15 - 20 riders waiting to have their go, some seem to think it's acceptable to ride to near the front park their bike amble down to have another look at the section then just come back to their bike and join the queue at the front ! What the heck do they think the rest of us are doing sitting there with our engines off, we are probably just making up the numbers ! We are all just too 'British' to make a fuss.

    2018 EC models

2018 models available in April 2017 ! Not heard of this over in the UK, what are the changes that make them 2018.
  15. I have the extra weight fitted to the flywheel of my Gasgas 300, a slim spacer is used to push out the flywheel cover to make room inside for the extra weight and this means the gear lever fouls it. I have gently bent out my gear lever and I have also 'relieved' the inside face with a sander/file, you also have to make sure the pinch bolt is done up very tight as the engagement on the splined shaft is less than it should be. It does work but there is no other option as I don't know of any after market gear levers with bigger offsets, this is of course a Gasgas, would be interested to know if a lever from another make or model could be used ?
  16. Why would you ever want to rev a trials bike engine to 10,000 ? Why not go and buy yourself a motocross bike
  17. When you say very easy, do you mean as if there is no compression ? Take out the plug, put your finger in the plug hole and gently turn the engine over on the kickstart, mind you don't touch the spark plug. Does it feel like it is pumping air out past your finger or is the engine not doing anything ?
  18. Well I always allow them to air cool, Google 'Annealing Copper washers' and make up your own mind.
  19. What a pointless competition that must have been, 5 for going over a tape 2 good individual dabs with plenty of foot movement and a backwoods move that was a definite 5 ! what's the point of a scoring system if it's not properly used, this is why sections get harder as riders think they are cleaning the sections that the hard working C of C's lay out and complain it's too easy !
  20. Either get some new copper washers or you can heat your existing ones up to cherry red on a gas hob or with a gas torch to soften them off ( 'anneal' is the technical term for it ) be very careful not to melt them, I have with a gas torch ! As has been said above then make sure the surfaces that are being sealed are clean and flat, no sealant or tape is required just clean surfaces, soft copper washers and nip it up.
  21. Best to join a couple of clubs near to you, Google ' ACU trials clubs' and meet some enthusiasts.
  22. Not crushed, only if it is broken, just squashing the wire does not necessarily break the internal conductor.
  23. Why not try driving the engine from the rear wheel, cold to see if the noise can be detected, put the bike up on a stand and the with plug out, high gear and turn the rear wheel you may be able to hear something that is otherwise covered by the noise of the engine. If it only lasts for a couple of seconds it cannot be heat related more likely as you say oil distribution so slowly turning it cold may show something up.
  24. Down here in the south east (UK) land is at a premium, often our idea of a hard section is multiple turns between trees on a cambered bank ( rocky streams are few and far between) gloves are an absolute must unless you enjoy loosing the skin on your outside fingers. Many the time I have bashed my hand so hard going for that 'clean' that I have not taken the glove off until I am back in the car park for risk of ruining my day looking at a skinned finger only to find no damage. Even the thinnest Hebo type glove manages to slide past a tree and enable me to escape injury free. Also stops blisters, gloves every time !
  25. Yes, I do have a gasser it's a 2014 300 and to be honest it's beautiful , my fifth gasser and the only other make I have considered is the TRS. How long would you run a bike with a noise your not happy with before taking it back ? What is a Bart Simpson ? I must be missing mine !
