I would be very surprised if it's a Beta problem, they do'nt make the carb, the cable or the twist grip. If it only happens on say full lock turn in one direction, then suspect the cable routing, if it's just after you have twisted the throttle then suspect the carb assembly. As its a new bike it's probably down to giving everything a good clean, not with a power washer !

Sounds more like the float valve to me, where is a lever in the throttle slide ?

I have to agree about Sammy in the 70's, Bultaco, Bultaco, Bultaco, must have been a demonstration event and If Don Smith was Kawasaki must have been mid 70's

I would suggest a complete strip down and overhaul of the carb and air filter. If it is fitted with the 'Keihen' (not sure of the spelling) carb get the jets and settings checked out as it may have been played with depending on where the bike was being used and by whom.

Check out his wins in the pre 65 Scottish, only bit of film I have of of Sammy riding and he made the rest look very pedestrian. Edit - The pre 65 Scottish was started in 1984 as an extra to the 6 days event and Sammy Miller was still a very competitive rider on his Ariel

How can you possibly compare the work involved with mixing your pre-mix ? It seems an extream justification for going 4RT or am I missing the humour ?

Well I think congratulations are due all round, what a superb insight into our sport, a little taster to the effort required to enter and finish a world class event. Do not forget the flattening effect of film, the difficulty is never really conveyed to the non riding viewer , unfortunately you have to try riding a bike in an event to truely appreciate the difficulty. Thank heavens it was'nt raining or snowing ! I have no complaints about the fly on the wall filming I think it adds a lot of realism, Ross has to be respected for having a go and what a good egg he is, not giving up when many would have. The efforts and support given by his team also have to be congratulated, Jamie may seem like he was pushing on but let's face it, it's what's needed, Ross did not have the experiance to finish this event without being forced on. What ever happened to the road racing hero that did the pre65 never seen that on the telly !

Not too clear whether this is a brand new bike,or new to you, but that is a very good photo of a very bad plug ! I would check the air filter, if that's been soaked in oil then the bike would run far too rich. I imagine to oil up like that it must feel like it's on the choke all the time, can you give a clearer history of the bike as something is very wrong if that's all brand new.

How could that bike be called original or a 247 ? I am sure you could do your own research on the internet there must be loads of period photos out there, straight away you would see the engine is the smaller version.

The so called Spanish invasion headed by Sammy Miller and his Bultaco.The era of the 'British Bike' was replaced by the lighter and better built Spanish manufacturers. Years later the sport of Pre65 was started to try and re-kindle interest in the old bikes and get them back out of sheds and into use. Unfortunately you now have 'pre 65' bikes built in the current era using modern know how and a genuine period bike is virtually unrideable in modern trials events. If Triumph Cubs, BSA Bantums and the like were available to current spec in 1965 the Spanish would never have come in fact a lot of bikes in the pre65 scene are pretty competitive against modern bikes at clubman level.

Watched it last night on the on demand, well worth it, well done to all involved. Nice to see conventional trials rather than the world indoor circus.

F.I.M. Minimum weight limit means there is probably not much in it, I think the standard TRS already meets it, Becky Cook found that out last year. A works Honda Montesa will not be a 4RT with a few special bits, I think it's all special.

Perfect, I would treat that chain to some lube !

You need the shark fin style guard that sits just in front of the rear sprocket at the bottom, the point where the chain and sprocket create a nice finger remover ! I think GasGas have always fitted one so even if yours is missing it should be easy to replace.

Look up the national championship results and the super trial in the U.K. and you will find they have definitely risen to the top !

I recently put a set of 5" bars on my GasGas and it was well worth it, only problem encountered was the throttle cable was too short using the original routing so had to play around with that.

He maybe referring to the use of a cub hub.

The other problem to consider is insurance, not sure what the current situation is, I am sure there is plenty of advice out there but standard insurance did not used to cover riding in competition. Did the ACU introduce insurance cover for the event ?

Can't believe this load of c&&p is still going on, just got back from a week away on holiday to find the old 'original bike' stuff has started again, bet these posts are deleated and we never get to see the bike.

Any results for this trial ? I have looked on the organising clubs website but no mention, was it cancelled ? Allways a fabulous event as part of the Sammy Miller series.

That is a lot of oil to mix in, 24-40:1 for a 250 that was probably set up to run 80:1 modern oil, would you notice the reduction in fuel to air ratio ?

Hang on,let's get an idea how bad the leak is first, if you run the engine until it's hot how much comes out ? Does it just weep or does it leak out into the bash plate then dribble onto the garage floor and leave a puddle ? I have ridden pre 65 for years so oil leaks are not really on the scale of problems ! Gear selection and clutch drag are obviously a problem, but as I suggested earlier get some experianced opinions before you start spending money.
