  1. If the battery volts drop as soon as you turn the bike on then it has a fault ( that’s called the load ) or the bike has a fault, as suggested above does the bike work with the standard battery or do you not have one. Perhaps you could give a bit more history of the problem to enable a remote diagnosis, ie was the bike working O.K. in your ownership, why have you replaced the battery etc.
  2. Hi all I have got myself a Mk1 Beamish in silver and red to relive my yooff ! Can anyone confirm the point of kickstart engagement, the lever looks to be in the correct position mounted on the engine, but does not engage until it is approx horizontal when kicking. It’s so long since I had mine that I don’t know if this is normal or if the internals need looking at. Thanks for any replies
  3. Good effort to try and cheer us all up, my bike is now in lots of bits so I can’t be tempted to go out on it. It needed a new set of linkage bearings, hope it will benefit from a new small end and of course it’s now surgically clean.
  4. Has it already been played with ? It's an old bike so may have some history I tried a top youths bike a few years ago and it was tuned for max splat it was useless for my old rider technique !
  5. From what has been said in the past I would think availability in your part of the world is the first problem to overcome, so find your nearest dealer and seek some advice or better still join a club, bikes often move by word of mouth.
  6. I think you will find instances of bikes running full bore and the lanyard will not help, the engine gets so hot it self runs. You have to resort to turning off the fuel and stuffing your gloves up the exhaust, all very stressful with an engine probably still in gear and revving it's nuts off !
  7. I think I heard that in the 'old days ' riders would travel to an event with their own barrel / piston to convert a standard bike to 'works spec' BUT surely compared to even 10 years ago modern bikes are just so perfect why not have the added cudos of competing and winning on a 'box standard' bike that any joe public can then go and buy. Do we really need these bikes to progress any further, if a developement programme needs world round competition to push it forward then the targets are already too high.
  8. Could you play around with the bottom shock mount position to move them inboard ?
  9. It was posted on here earlier that the bikes must not be 'one offs' well I have never heard that before and I bet you can't buy any of the world class bikes. Why not limit the G.P riders to only using production bikes, that would mean all the riders turn up at an event and use a bike from the nearest distributor, straight away you have slashed the costs of competing as the bikes would then be sold on as 'ex demo !'
  10. You guys have obviously never ridden in mud !
  11. Certainly until they are established the resale value will be one up from burning your money, knew someone with a Xispa a few years ago, he struggled to give it away.
  12. I think the pastime / sport of motorcycle trials needs to be defined in the current timeframe. I am now 60, I have been involved in the club scene on and off ( as everyone else, houses and kids have dragged me away but I've always come back ) for 45 years. Around here in the South East of the U.K. I could probably get a ride most weekends at club / centre level, I have never had aspirations to ride at the higher level as I know my limits and have always enjoyed my 'sport'. At this level, which I would suggest is the vast majority of riders, there is no concern about getting spectators out to watch nor a desire to have the sport moved on to be more extreme. As far as participation is concerned we get around 45 - 70 riders at a local compeditive event but between 130 and 200 at a practice day, ( sections laid out but no observing, ride as many times around as you like ) I think that speaks volumes for what the grass root rider wants. Get out at the weekend and enjoy the challenge of riding a motorbike through and over stuff that won't kill him/her So here is a loony suggestion, if we want the sport to grow forget the World Championship, get the factories and their sponsors to invest in grass root sport. It would make an interesting poll to find out what the bulk of the riders want. Sorry if this is off topic, but trials will not improve if you only consider the top 0.1% in fact 0.001%
  13. These riders are the 'best of the best' why not 4 laps of 12 ? Make them work for the championship.
  14. Since there are only 10 or so regular GP riders how is your 5% going to work ? The whole sport needs an overhaul, let's face it it bears no relationship to our domestic weekend riding (U.K.) . We were only discussing how things have changed at the weekend, when we were young there were world rounds in cold wet countries and most seemed to be in the winter months, we now have a sport geared to big grippy rocks ridden in blazing sunshine it's no wonder the Spanish rule. Also what happened to the indoor series if you look at the rider list it's more like a Spanish indoor world championship.
  15. Well how did this all end up ? Were there enough rounds and is it going to continue in 2020 ?
  16. I think the Raga replica came with magnesium crankcases, if not looked after the engine will be a definite money pit, you already advise it dosn't have any compression and the clutch has a problem so possibly also the gearbox. Not sure about bike availability on the Isle of Lewis but I would 'not touch that one with yours !'

Depends what you are needing, you could try Allens (? check spelling they are in the U.K.) bike breakers or just make something similar fit.
  18. Oops just noticed this originally started back last year, hope it got sorted O.K
  19. Hopefully someone could confirm that the wheel is centred in the swingarm on original bikes, you may also want to check your chain run as its all very tight.
  20. Interesting that an auxiliary fuel tank is mentioned, that is a copy of the 'Thirsty' tank made and sold in the U.K. a few years ago, specifically as a drinks container. In fact I am sure Mr Tarres used one in the Scottish converted to carry his fuel ! Around 550 were produced and it took about 5 years to sell them, it was before the Internet was up to speed with the likes of e-bay so relied on 'trials specialist' outlets. The tool still exists but not sure the demand is there to enable more to be produced, biggest problem is the headlight has to be removed, Oh yea you have to do that to put on a number board !
  21. When you say restoration due you mean to standard spec or to modern day riding, those shocks look period modern ones don't.
  22. Hi, just got some time back on the bike after a long lay off ( holiday ) Followed the advice given and fitted an original air screw, re set the float height as I feel it was a bit on the low side after reading the Internet, put the needle back up, fitted a new plug as it had some special fine wire electrode thing fitted. Starting has improved but still not one kick, could be my technique or is something else still not right ? Entered the dark side and fitted a flywheel weight, this has the effect of giving the starting kick a slight bit of extra momentum and does appear to help though still not as good as I think it should be. (Had GasGas bikes for 20 years so I know they can start ) After some discussion I decided to look at the reed valve assembly, it all looked O.K. apart from appearing to have an extra gasket fitted between the reed cage and the reed block. I do not think this is correct as the built in sealing face of the reed then sits inside the gasket and does not do anything, also on removing the assembly there appeared to be fuel across the whole face of the gasket so could have been a leak. Put together without the suspect gasket and the bike now starts quite easily, half a kick to load up the inlet and then a full kick once compression is found and away she goes. Just got some fine tuning to try now as it feels a bit rich off the bottom but that could of course be the lag effect of the flywheel. Anyone confirm the gasket fitment as I will leave it out if it's not needed
  23. Where's the smile, must be missing the smell and audio of a petrol engine !
  24. I must be bored I just read through this lot of xxxx, what's the latest on GasGas ?
