  1. As I rode over the tops of the hills struggling to clear enough snow from my goggles to see the blizzard in front of me, and my nose froze, I was thinking of BillyCraig in his shorts and flipflops due to my weather forecast. Bloody BBC - how can you get it so wrong - it was a full sun symbol just 24 hours before and I was in a blizzard!
  2. Russ Jones, one of the Llangollen boys rode one in the Lomax today, not sure how he got on, but I saw him at the last group, so he finished. Mind you durability isn't likely to be a problem when comparing an 80's bike to a modern one.
  3. If it really is a 240, they had a 212cc engine, and if it really is in good condition, I would say it would be worth nearer
  4. I 'think' I know which angled bar you're talking about, although it's been a few years since we had a TY. I seem to remember it was to stop the kick start at the end of its travel? Does it look like it's in the right place for that? The rod definitely goes over the top of the spindle. I think it's the bit at the front you need to sort. Any photos so we can get an idea what's happening?
  5. Always amazed me how much profit there is on bearings. They literally cost pence to the bearing shops, and are marked up by about 1000 percent. I would imagine that the dealers are not getting the massively discounted prices, but dunno for sure? About time we found a way in to the suppliers for the trials/motorcycle world? I don't care so much if the trials dealers are marking them up, but rather see the profit stay in trials.
  6. I'm under 10 miles away from the Lomax start, and happy to day it's sunny today in Oswestry. Forecast more sun tomorrow, so should be OK I would think. Worth checking though if you've got a club contact, we are right on the edge of the hills, and it can be very different just a few miles away.
  7. I bought a one bike trailer years ago, second hand. The bloke had made it himself from a caravan A frame, then just fabricated the bit to hold the bike from L section steel. At the time it cost me
  8. This from the same site: Lada Half Pipe Surely it's fake? Looks good.
  9. LOL Next bike I get, I fancy keeping my old 290 Sherco and fitting a chair to it. My lad's a little light at the moment, but maybe I could fit a 6 stone chair Are the rider and passenger allowed to swap? Probably a stooopid question to you, but always wondered. There was a chair on ebay recently, but I had no idea whether it was in any way suitable. Good luck with your quest anyway!
  10. Watched loads of his programs and read his books as a kid. Would hate to think he was that way inclined - Or was it our wonderful British press? Like most of us on here I'd join in pi55ing on his grave if any of this were true, although it seems like this may be at the very least unsubstantiated. The only thing even anywhere close to being as terrible as this sort of crime in my view would be to be falsely accused of it. Quote from wikipedia: On 26 May 2000 he was made a Knight Bachelor[18] "for services to literature" at a ceremony in Colombo.[19] The award of a knighthood had been announced in the 1998 New Year Honours,[20] but investiture of the award had been delayed, at Clarke's request, because of an accusation, by the British tabloid The Sunday Mirror, of p*******a, which was, however, found to be baseless by Sri Lankan police and retracted by the paper soon after.[21][22][23][24][25][2 Another link
  11. I was just thinking how much I'd love to do it, but as I mentioned before I'm over the weight limit, and besides that, not got the time. However, looking at what would be involved from someone elses perspective, what sort of thing you looking at? How often do you try to practice? How far and wide you looking at competing, and what sort of level? I'm just thinking there's maybe some lad or lass sat there thinking, nah I couldn't do that, when maybe they could, or just not willing to be as gobby as me and ask what's really involved If nothing else, it keeps your thread up the top, but I've often wondered how active the sidecar season is, and how many of the crews are full time etc.
  12. I had ground anchors made - just big loop of steel welded to a base plate, concreted in to the floor. Much cheaper than the purpose made ones. I'm sure they could get through the chains if they want to. Cameras, security lights, and the odd 'special device' help too. I think I bank on being the ugliest and biggest deterrent in the street. I dream of meeting a burglar I reckon I could mentally scar someone for life. First burglar that I catch I plan to keep - after that I'll hand them over. We've just not got the room for more
  13. Get some over sized cams from here: Trialcast snail cams You don't need half links then.
  14. From the TC sponsors list: Helmets HERE I've no experience of them, but it's a start, you can always ask around on here for an idea of which helmets may be best for a kid.
  15. How about me and Neonsurge put up a challenge to the Dabomant team We may have more difficulty finding a suitable chariot, but reckon we could have a good laugh Dabomant vs Neonspace vs ????????? Any challengers?
  16. I think this may be verging on daft question, bit it's never stopped me before, so: Any idea what is the extent of the cover? Is this strictly a top up for those that have insurance but maybe insurance which doesn't cover competition use (all of them it seems) OR is this full insurance cover for those that may have none otherwise. Fully comp/third party? I know some will say that you should be insured for your bike anyway otherwise how could you tax it, and to a certain extent you're right.....but....I'd imagine there are a fair few lads riding 'their dads bikes' so otherwise may have no official insurance.
  17. Thats a shame mate - hopefully someone is willing to take up the mantle. As you know I'm already involved with our club just down the road so can't afford the extra time, but would be good to see it taken on - it's been a strong club over the years. Out of interest, what land have you got available now. Sounds bad me asking, but as you know we're fine for land - I'm not poaching , just wondering what the new guys have got to go at. I love Wern Ddu - there's still plenty of trials left in that place - you could have 4 trials a year there without using the same sections easily. Have you still got the farm by the river up at Llanarmon DC. I know you tried the mountain once or twice, but maybe it was a bit far out for your regulars? Can't think of any others at the moment?
  18. Yeah that's what i decided i should have done, but only because I needed to adjust length permanently. If I was just using for one size of bike I'd have been happy to have it locked up solid. I sort of wished I'd bought something like the Dave Cooper rack. I paid about 90 quid for my Kliponoff, and it was a full towbar bolt job to take off once the pinch bolts had screwed things up. In contrast my brother in law turned up with a Dave Cooper job he'd bought for a tenner second hand and removed both sides in about 10 seconds leaving a neat bracket in the middle - I was gutted I was thinking more of jacking the suspension up a bit rather than lowering, to level things out a bit?
  19. Perfect translation: Ach ye f3ckin what? Use yer noggin ya duffer. Louis the Rev3 shock won't work as it's a linkless shock. Stirred my grote with Charlie. (not sure I'm happy with that bit) OK I may have missed some of that 0 I dunno but always happy to help out with my cunning lingual abilities. P.S. I've had a 2004 290 for years with the standard shock and done no damage to it at all. I'm around 120Kg and given it a fair hammering with big drop offs, fast moors, enough to smash up a rear wheel and need a weld job on rear of frame but no damage to shocker (yet), so maybe the rebuild is the problem and you were unlucky with the original?
  20. That rack looks a lot like my Kliponoff with a coat of paint. Worked fine for me for a few years. Main problem I had was the pinch bolts which damaged the tubing enough to make it non-adjustable. Not so much a problem these days as it would only ever carry full size bikes. I had a Peugeot 306 for about 8 years from new and never knew about the adjustable rear suspension Doh!
  21. This regularly amuses me too. How about this for the name of the award: Best rider unable to compete on hard route but still looking for an award or maybe Best rider on the **** easy route or maybe Average Champion Why should the top rider on the easy route qualify for an award, when his peers the same age or even older, riding the same bike or 'even less competitive' compete on a harder course and come back in 25th and 26th place. It's like the schools these days where everybody has to have an award of some kind, in case they feel left out. Flak jacket firmly done up, but it's what I do believe (excuse the sarcasm mixed in there)
  22. It's a brain monitor Stu. We were just comparing scores before you turned up, 70% is the lowest so far. You sure yours says zero?
  23. I can't see them on theirs, my own or anyone elses? the only reason I know what you're talking about is because you pasted an example in your posts Atom. Am I missing out? And if someone can see mine can you give me a nudge when I get near the top? Ah - now I've posted in this thread i see it, couldn't see it in the other thread I looked at. Ah well, seems like a good idea. Seems to be 5 boxes though, did I get an extra one?
