I must admit Atom on this occasion I don't agree.
It's a paltry sum from a few, but adds up to a fair amount overall for the ACU. They'd have to find it elsewhere.
I'm forever sceptical, but it would be another way for some people to get a free ride without specifically targetting the workers.
We would have to give it to:
Jean (Secretary, and CofC and non-rider)
Me (CofC, Sound Official, Centre/National Steward)
Elwyn (Chairman, CofC, Sound Official, Centre/National Steward)
Alec (CofC, Centre/National Steward, Coach, First Aid)
Darren (CofC, Centre/National Steward)
Gillian (CofC, Centre/National Steward, Coach, First Aid)
Eddie (Worker )
Flash (Treasurer, CofC and non-rider most the time)
Inky (CofC, Centre/National Steward and non-rider)
Simon Graham (CofC, H&S, and not insignificantly controls half a million acres of our best trials land )
Probably missed off people and definitely roles or quals, but who deserves a free licence and who doesn't?
Or....as I would say if we were talking direct ...Ian...That's a **** idea

I can picture you saying that line whilst eating yer pie and chips
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think you will notice an extra 5kgs on the weight of the bike especially over the long haul. Thats approx 7% weight gain. If we take your weight Gaz ( 17st ) and add 7% then thats another 1st 3lbs - I think you would notice that dont you think.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks for the 17 stone - 5 years ago when I was full tilt at rugby I was 17 stone.
At the moment I'm 18st 13lb, playing an hour of squash almost every day, and no I really don't notice that much difference
That's like putting a small backpack on for me. My camelbak probably weighs that.
5Kg was probably over the top a little, but I'd take the size increase if it meant a more suitable bike for my kind of riding.

Thanks all. Just look at the calibre of replies. You can't beat this place can ya!

The TC Calendar is useful too.
I've put my mums birthday on there, 30th August.....Disguised as the Dot Hinton Anniversary trial, my mates stag weekend as the Steve Granger 3 day, and it gives you handy reminders for all of them.
Saved myself a fortune on the price of Microsoft Outlook.
Use it people!
Sorry...cider

In fact, why not make the whole thing bigger. Look what Volkswagon did to their Golf - Do that to a Sherco and I'll buy one.
Make it look the same but make it BIGGER.
If my knee will bend allowing my lower thigh over the seat, while my foot is on the pegs then that will do for me. It means I can dab about 2 foot below the bike if I need to.
More fuel capacity, more space for a decent air box, can sit down when I need to....Stuff dreams are made of.
You can harp on about extra weight all you like, but most people won't notice the extra 5Kg.
-
I think that's exactly the question, and I agree that if the bikes became generally more like a real bike it would increase trials popularity.
What i don't know is, as an existing fairly experienced rider, would I buy one?
That would depend on whether they made it look the dogs b0ll0cks.
Look at some of the older Honda's - they look a class act, even compared to things like the Fantic.
People will buy a Fantic through nostalgia. The same is true of the honda, but the style lines on some of the Honda's make you want it too. not true of the Fantic, despite my affection for them.
Marketing will be a big part of it too. Don't deliberately aim the thing at old blokes, because people like me nearing the mid life crisis will run a mile . Call it the Sherco SSDT, or something like that, and again - make it look damned good. Do the drawing - if it makes you love the shape, go for it. If it makes you think, I could put up with it, forget it.

Errr....well if the fat bloke hadn't been on it, it wouldn't have happened
It's just the single tube of frame that goes under the mudguard to support it (cracked at the weld)
-
As I said, obviously not me, some fat bloke I know
Cheers Alan, Mig it is....and flak jacket just in case
-
If, just for instance a lardy bloke I know was flying along a path, only to find the path ended, shot off a 10 foot drop , slipped off the foot pegs on landing and managed to snap the rear part of the frame (mudguard/silencer support), what tips and advice would you give the daft bugger for getting it welded up
I understand the frame is chrome-moly. Any special welding techniques needed. It's magnetic, but does that make it as easy as steel to patch up, or even more awkward than alloy?
Obviously it's not me
Cheers.

Just in case the thread goes down the line of the "Common Problem" I know of a few 04 Sherco's, my own included, never misses a beat. The carburation is one thing I have been reeeeaaaally impressed with. Sweet!
Admittedly i can go a bit over the top with the jetwash on the odd occasion, and lazily decide it just needs a quick filter swap I know, inexcusable.
I normally know within the first section or two, and dart back to the car - mudguard, airbox, carb off, drop the float bowl, blow it out and all back on, and Even holding an umbrella above it it's 10 minutes max. I can 99% guarantee problem sorted. If I let the fuel get through while I put the mudguard back i can almost guarantee first kick every time.
This is with all bog standard jets etc.
Plug is probably a year old (I carry one with me so if it ain't broke I don't fix it)
The only other single problem I've had is the choke sticking up slightly - happened twice, so no major problem, lever just needed pushing home, but I thought the worst and stripped it down
One other Sherco I saw with problems had a dodgy connection between HT lead and plug cap.
Sounds like I'm gloating here, but not intended that way, just letting you know that the target should be near perfection, so if you're not getting that, keep looking.
Be good to hear what it turns out to be. Good luck.
P.S. I wouldn't expect mine to start without choke after half an hour to cool down either. It'd be cold again. Did I miss summat?

The first round of the Welsh Championship is just around the corner, this time run by the Mid Wales Centre, on 5th Feb 2006 at Builth Wells - 10.30am start.
Although there are rules to be able to qualify for championship points, the trial is open to all riders, and we have a regular group of entries from across the border.
Three courses - Championship, Clubman, then Masters which is a mixture of the two.
For classes see the regs.
Entries are

Errrr.....eeerrrmmm....ahhhh....doh....Big Brother is watching.
I'll certainly sponsor someone. I'll have to have a 'thunk' about riding the bugger. If my bike is still in one piece in a few months and you're still looking I'll.........still try and dodge it but it's a possibility.
Would I be the fattest man to finish a Scott?
Are there burger vans on the way round?
Can I tow my own?
How many pubs en route??
Is there a cider that doesn't fizz up in a CamelBak???
-
You should have tried kicking it 3 more times
You'll never know now.
-
Help, I'm almost in agreement with Lane, or at least considering the fact that there would be a considerable market for them..maybe....
This hasn't happened to me before. Do I need to see a doctor?
-
Joking aside, loads of people used to have bike covers in my previous life, especially for bike racks. I would imagine they would keep the wind chill down anyway.
Leave the engine running on the trailer - it'll be warmed up by the time you get there
-
Look at his avatar - it's been pi55ing down - it's Britain

Edit: Sorry - info below is for May Bank Holiday weekend 28th May - just realised I goofed - never turned up for Sunday school enough eh.
It's not strictly a multi day trial, but if you want three trials in three days:
Llanfyllin (Mid Wales Border) are running a charity trial on the Saturday (New Barns Farm), followed by the biggy on the Sunday, the Forest Trophy Trial - 40 sections over about 24 miles all off road.
To be honest we don't really need to advertise it (that sounds cocky, I didn't mean it to, I'm just scared ). We may have to limit entries this year as we had just under 150 last year.
Then on the Monday is what usually is the fun trial, but this year I think is a round of the Centre Championship.
Details on our website nearer the time.
-
Hmmmm...You been to wales?
-
How do they make their money?
I know they used to be one of the free channels so presumably at that point it was all advertising.
If I was paying to advertise during a certain event, I'd want to know that the people I'm trying to target are actually watching, rather than just stumbling across it whenever it happens to be on.
Or...is that the problem, do you reckon they delay it if they haven't got advertisers who want to be slotted in between trials?
-
Someone mentioned new ACU forestry rules. Not heard owt. What's that all about then?
-
Isn't there a trial on at Kinlet tomorrow?
Must be just down the road for you.

Whatever the bearings are called for the top and bottom of the suspension, I couldn't find an exact match for them t a bearing supplier. I've put a couple in mine that are right apart from the width (a little too narrow). Work fine but I'd rather the real thing if anybody manages to get the number for them.
Bit of a rip off for the real thing - don't remember how much I was quoted, but the ones from Bearing Man were that cheap my mate gave me them.
