Front row material like myself.
Welcome to the ugly club
-
-
Can't tell from the photo whether a ball ended allen key will go in there, they're handy for a lot of things (suspension linkages, front exhaust clamps), but Perce's suggestion seems easiest.
I'm a little taller than you, but felt the 300 Gasser was more comfortable than many others for my size. I messed with my Sherco 290, but never really convinced myself it handled quite the same.
You sure you need it higher?

He made a real mess of his wrist a few months back. Real messy break. Some nice scarring left now.
Was with him in town a few weeks back - unfortunately I hardly remember anything anyone said all night
Not heard what he's up to recently, but no doubt over the xmas period he'll be in training and I'll see him around again soon

6 events a year - 3 bikes - turning tyres regularly Mark???
-
I think it's one of the most useful things I've bought. I paid an arma nd a leg for mine when they weren't available over here. Shipped from Spain about
-
Just a standard ACU license needed, and yes, officially, the bike has to be road registered, insured etc.
Mine is actually about as legal as I can get it. I reckon it might be in the minority.
Quite a few 05 bikes with 03 plates. Maybe they're private registrations eh?
-
I've just deleted half my original post so I don't confuse things.
Cheers Dabster - I don't know how I got the idea they'd gone to a 2nd route on the Novogar????
I'm happy now - single route, and the 125 and over 40 classes will hopefully ensure the level of the trials stays sensible.
I've not had my fist pint of the day yet and already talking b&*^&ocks
-
The better ones of the Novogar rounds were just good honest Centre Expert (even Inter) standard, and I'm not just talking Yorkshire expert.
I'm no superstar (as many people will no doubt agree), but I've enjoyed 'most' of them this year.
If you want to have a look at results to compare riders of your ability - I'd say that most of the Novogars would be around the level of the National route at the Manx 2 day. They would be a fair bit harder than the clubman route at the Lakes 2 day, but nowhere near the National route.

Perfect, just add in one word to the start of the fourth line: Stopping,.....
Now we're there. Easy & Simple to explain.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's just started to get complicated again, with that one word.
1. Has he stopped if the wheel hops sideways?
2. Which wheel has to stop? Front wheel stops or back wheel stops or both?
3. If you hop the rear wheel round 90 degrees with your front wheel stationary have you gone sideways? Your rear wheel by definition must have gone slightly forwards with each degree (ask pythagoras).

Just put the Welsh Championship dates on our club website - go to the fixtures page. No details of clubs yet, except in specific cases like Wrexham.
First trial of the year is Mid Wales on 5th Feb - no idea where or which club yet, but will update it as soon as I know.
I'll update the TC calendar once we have some more details.
P.S. As far as I know same rules as this year - best 6 rounds count, so you can drop one round.
-
To give you a bit of an idea, Lloyd Price usually beats me these days the little bugger - I ride the expert route poorly. Mind you he seemed to improve all of a sudden.
The Welsh will be a good starter for you, and you should be able to compare yourself to a couple of the lads that ride the British to give you a bit of an idea.
-
I'll get hold of them. They'll be on our website soon, and I'll get them put in the Trialscentral calendar as well.
-
If you do Inters you'd probably enjoy the Masters most.
-
I think I've said this before, but I still think we would enjoy things just as much if we went back to the older rules of the 70's 80's.
You could go backwards/sideways, whatever you want, but you can only put your foot down whilst going forwards. Put a foot down whilst stationary and it's a 5.
Never used to be a problem for observers.
As much as old farts like myself try to move away from the trick riding, it's part of trials.
Being able to hop sideways/backwards on a bike is much more part of trials than being able to sit down in the middle of a section with your feet down and not get a 5!
I think that is the least impressive thing about trials these days - you can sit and get your breath back in the section, have a chat, paddle through and get the same as the bloke who has three dabs. Not good to watch, and usually not very pleasing to ride that way.
And it doesn't automatically make the trials tight, the clerk of the course decides how tight a trial is - just as easy to mark out as todays trials are.

Ouch - caught me with yer handag there Heath
-
I know you're just having a laugh, but I can't stand by and let a GasGas man knock the Sherco lump.
My 290 has served me tirelessly where my GasGas fell by the wayside on several occasions. My bike gets a good hammering engine wise carrying my lard a*** over the expert route. It's 2 years old now and not missed a beat - never noticed any lack of power. Prima donna's may want more to replace inabilities in their riding style. I know where the limiting factor is on my bike - just above the seat.
Having said that I will seriously consider another Gasser when/if they make it as bullet proof as the Sherco. (and I know they may never want to - performance is key - reliability hinders sales )
-
Calm down lad - it's a free forum.
There was some bloke on here a while ago that posted this:
Don't know him do you?
What goes around comes around.
-
Hmmm... Looks nice.
Anyone noticed, in the first picture, if you glance over to the left, there is a Fantic in view also.
-
Well I'll be in ******* church you bunch of heathen *******s. Never seen such a bunch of ****s.
You'll all go to hell you ******s, mark my words. I've got my ******* place reserved.
I still don't really know which side of the fence I fall. More arguing please, make my mind up
The bleeping didn't work for one of them there words. Had to edit it quick
-
I'm sort of playing devils advocate - and to be honest I can't decide
I can see both sides. That's sort of why I wanted to push the discussion, I want to see what people really think about it.
Some of the problem people have with remembrance Sunday is the tie to religion. It used to annoy me that in the forces, you couldn't go to a remembrance 'event' without having religion forced down your neck. There should be no link whatsoever as far as I can see.
On the subject of trials on Rem Sunday, it could lead to us being thought of as a bunch of disrespectful yobs I suppose, even if we were raising money for charity, and respecting the 2 minutes silence.

Well....It's another year on, so time to tempt fate again.
My 04 Sherco has now done two years - engine not been split yet. All the Novogars, Manx 2 day, Lakes 2 Day, various other club trials etc.
Since last year I've bought:
Rear wheel - just needed a spare
Rear mudguard and stickers - old one looking very tatty.
The usual - oils/filters/bearings/plugs etc.
Chain Sprockets.
Brake pads front and rear.
I still think you just can't beat that.
And to add to the WD40 comments from last year, I'm still on my second set of chain/sprockets (2 years) so averaging more than a year a set.
At my weight, it's not getting a particularly easy time. I think that's enough of an indication that WD40 is the way to go.
I'm thinking of using WD40 on my boots - surely a pair of boots should last longer than chain and sprockets Maybe it just suggests I'm pushing the thing more than I'm riding it
-
Thanks for the explanation. It's the sort of discussion I used to have with my grandmother, she didn't know why, she just always did it. Come on add some meat to it. It's a discussion forum.
