  1. Looks to me like Sherco made the right decision then. Honda bravely jumped in early when they could have been testing their 4rT fully all this year. Scottish was a good learning experience for Sherco, without too much egg on the face if things go wrong. It's the hardest endurance trial in the world after all. Both of the bikes are good. I would guess at this point that neither of them are quite good enough to assist the best in the world to lift the title. I think Sherco have played fairly safe and it's worked out better (at the moment).
  2. Had another ride of the 4t yesterday - first time in mud. I had a bit of a play on section 2. Stuck it in 2nd gear like I would on the 2t, and i couldn't move anywhere. Felt weird, didn't seem to have any feel of what the back wheel was doing. It was fairly slow stuff on muddy banks and a couple of logs. Knocked it up in to 3rd and cleaned it. It felt lovely. Do you tend to pull higher gears on these? Or does it just take some getting used to?
  3. Anyone got any idea? Ballpark figure for a Talon trials rear wheel? Looking at them they look like a damned expensive bit of kit, but just wondering.

  5. I do my carb every single time I power wash the bike, just in case. If I'm not going to have time to strip it off I don't wash it. Every week I strip it off, jets out, quick blast with the compressor, but I've never ever checked the float level (of any bike for that matter) Anybody care to give us a quick guide on best way to check or set up the float level? Might seem a daft question to some, but you've either done it or you haven't I used to say in the forces: "Any questions? There is no such thing as a stupid question".......... but I was proven wrong quite a few times
  6. Steve Butler (the bloke who's making them) emailed me yesterday asking how they were going. Not so much asking about the sturdiness, as he seems absolutely confident of their physical ability, just asking generally about their performance. I've got no complaints about them whatsoever, they seem spot on. I believe there will be a website coming in the near future to sell these and some other bits. Good luck to him, he's going the right way about it, seems a nice bloke.
  7. Ah yeah - remember that one happened to mine too. Put a rubber washer between the tank and the frame where it bolts on. Or when you hear the rattle, just push your knee against the tank to see if that's it.
  8. I reckon the 3Kg-m converts to about 29.5 N-m or 260 lb-in. Does that sound about right?
  9. To be fair you were a fair way in Dabster

    Trick Gasser

See - I'm showing my age now. First thing I thought was the pipe looked crap like summat off a Greeves, plumbers nightmare.
  11. You weren't face down in the river as much as some of us
  12. I did ask, and the organisers were trying to think if they knew anyone with a computer They did say that Graham??? may be able to put them on TrialsCentral soon.
  13. And he's been riding trials for 60 years so not bad that I would have said my Novogars had lasted OK, but the bottom buckle got ripped off today. Not quite 12 months old. They've never been too waterproof even with dubbin, Nikwax etc etc My Diadora's were comfier, but didn't last much longer. Would be good to get some that the soles are easily changeable.
  14. Crinson 6+10=16 Sagar 10+10=20 S Dixon 9+19=28 Gaskell 16+16=32 C Dixon 14+21=35 Holdsworth 13+23=36 Harland 18+25=43 Bloody good trial I thought, bit of a mix of sections, not a bad run round, rode like a donkey as usual but still thoroughly enjoyed it........ except the bit where my arms stopped working, oh and the hailstorm (hailstorm in mid-June)

    Sherco 3.2

We used to have one of those. Know what you mean, little silver disc used to show up through an 'eye' in the top of the barrel. And if you got it lined up perfectly, then gave it a good long kick............the bitch still wouldn't go until the 5th attempt You'd think with so many of us simple 2 stroke people about that the tips and tricks for starting would be attached to the bike when you buy it. I know it sounds a bit daft, but you just know that the factory will have the absolute best way to start it, no matter how many slightly different versions there are out in the real world.

    Mr Isherwood

He did say 'competitively' - come on there's no comparison really. Go Ishy!!!!
  17. One other possibility, I used to get a knock when "blipping" the throttle from low revs, but it was much worse when running on poor fuel (ie anything less than the best). If you're not using the best fuel available then you should. It makes all the difference. Either use optimax or the best Super Unleaded you can get. Of course it could be loads of things but a couple of ideas anyway.
  18. I've had more injuries playing 5 a side football than in 30 years of rugby (apart from the regular cuts and broken noses ) By the way, I spoke to Alan Stewart last night just to confirm everything was still OK, as I hear some people didn't receive their numbers. Everything is still fine. I also asked if I was likely to be able to get hold of an electronic copy of the rider numbers so I could shove it on here. I think the answer was something like - As much chance as a one legged cat burying p*ss on a frozen lake. Cumberland seems to be computer-free.
  19. Stupid no brain comments have almost become a way of life for some, a religion you might say. In which case, under the new British law, you may be guilty of inciting religious hatred I'll be checking with my legal team.
  20. Even though I said above that I see nothing wrong with the individual minder being in the section, there is no doubt that the moment the minder touches the rider or his bike, it's a 5
  21. How worn are your chain and sprockets? Are the sprockets hooked at all? Just a shot in the dark really.
  22. Looks good - you need to step back 30 years now to get hold of a punch card reader
  23. What are the options for adding to the database Ian? If a new rider comes along, do you add to the database page, or can you just enter his details and get it automatically added to the database. I'm presuming not? Dunno?
  24. I think a beginner brought that Sportsman class in, so he could stay and "Pot Hunt" in it for the rest of his life. That's the very reason I've been fighting to get it put back to Beginner, and I think have succeeded in our club at least. Its easier than the Novice route - Beginner is a good description. I don't want people hanging around on that route for years, raising the standard for true beginners. Anyone who disagrees???? I still don't really know where Clubman A and Clubman B fit in. You would think that everyone there would fit in to Novice, Inter, Expert? I'm not knocking it, because I know clubs like Scarborough are thriving on it, just don't know where I'd be supposed to ride if I went up there?
