General concensus is no speedo required.
If however you fancy shoving one on there, I picked up a cheapo bicycle speedo from Halfords (On offer about

Chuffed that they didn't feel they had to up the pace after the past few Novogars.
Would be interesting to see what the top boys thought of it. To the average clubman I would think it is spot on, but does that make it too easy for the top boys or not? I hope not. When you look at the sort of things you're just riding past, you realise how great the land is. Quality natural sections everywhere.
Admittedly there's a few easier sections slotted around, but generally I thought they got it pretty good.
Not managed to get hold of any results. As last man off, and riding with a puncture for the last 2 groups, by the time I limped the bike back to the finish, I think most people had gone home
Bloody good day out though, no matter how bad my score looks
I really need to get hold of a spare wheel - 04 Sherco rear wheel anyone?

It's not a spark plug, it's a glow plug in a diesel
Flak jacket securely fitted

It might be me showing my age, but the nationals seem to be getting much harder. Colmore Cup was harder, Wallace Cup was harder.
I'm not criticising them, just an observation. If that's the way they're intending to go, then that's fair enough.
I got a bit sick of twisting myself around trees though. There seem to be an increasing number of sections which needed trick riding rather than just being made easier by trick riding.
I didn't travel for the Jack Wood, as I need all the strength I've got for the Lomax tomorrow. I'm hoping they've left the Lomax very similar to last year, it's such a good trial with the natural stuff. Same goes for the Victory next week. Number 1 last year, slippy as hell, and still enjoyed it.
But, I have to admit, sometimes things need to move on and if that's the way it's going to go, there's still the Manx 2 day left as a quality no stop natural terrain trial for us old farts
-
Yeah thanks Ishy. Anybody can put together 3 acres of landscaped garden with a pi**y little river in it, but we're talking proper sections 'ere - oil drums and stuff.
I'm going to work feeling poor again now
-
They're the "TXT edition" model. Not lightened like the Pro. I think a better bike for a clubman with limited budget.
This one looks to have been neglected a bit in it's 2 years. Some of the pictures show off a fair few rust spots - Not a problem, but always got to wonder what else has been neglected.
Really not sure what sort of price you should be paying for this sort of thing. I certainly wouldn't be committing to pay much more than the current price of 960 without seeing it, and hearing it.

Good stuff, great site, and glad to hear Jordan and George are OK, apart from the breaks obviously.
I sent a mail on Sunday night asking how they were. Just got back tonight and noticed it in my outbox, I was working offline, guru that I am.
Well done with the site anyway.

He died in August 1991 leaving his wife, a son and two daughters, his son presumably also called Mr Honda
-
Ya never know. 3 of them driving tractors remember. Doh, there I go destroying Mr Honda's livelihood again.
-
Let me lull it over. You may have proved your point but I'm not sure?

Of course there are constant comparisons. It's the biggest obvious split in modern trials. Should we maybe not bother comparing the two????
Not really true - watched FujiGas trying to get up a steep incline. On every hop the power was very obviously lacking. It's lacking torque. The marketing graphs show it to a certain extent, but probably hide the dive in performance when the bike gets hot????
Possible reply - yeah but your average clubman doesn't do this sort of thing.
Well your average clubman is almost twice the weight of Fuji, and he does want torque in abundance, because unlike the pro's he probably missed the point where he should have started applying the revs.
If they were on an even playing field would it be a similar story. 4 stroke 250 against 2 stroke 250. Didn't the rules beat the 2 strokes as opposed to the 4 strokes beating the 2 strokes.
As great as Trials Central is, do you think that a few people laying down their opinion on here is likely to bring Honda to their knees. I do feel sorry for them. If it was a one man band I could imagine the bloke would be a bit disheartened. Honda will take anything like this and build on it.
Maybe if we all keep quiet and let them think they've built a world beater they won't bother improving it? Don't think so.
There, I've just pi*sed everyone off. Dabster do you fancy a pint?
If you're going to reply, do it quickly, just opening the second bottle of red - was it obvious?

I would and have considered owning a 70's/80's Honda, but I would have absolutely no interest in a new Chinese bike that was modelled on a TLR.
The interest in the Honda for me would be the nostalgia, the resell value and the quality, probably in that order. At least two of these you wouldn't have with the Chinese bike and very possibly three.
I may be wrong, but unless they come in with a bike to match the modern machines, I don't think there'll be much interest at all, and even then they'd have to convince people of the longevity.
They seem to just miss out on the styling as well.
Are those "Champ" trail bikes Chinese?
They're cheap and cheerful, and for a larger market, but they seem to fall to bits, and nothing too cool looking about them. Apologies if you've got one, but they're a bit like the MZ used to be for me - practical, very practical.
One good thing about them: You're just as happy in the morning when it won't start as when it will, because getting the bus is just as cool
-
LOL
And I never put that unless I actually do laugh out loud
Keep it up, one day I may be able to give you a PM (p**sed myself).
-
Apparently Crosser just got sick of some crabby bloke ringing him in the middle of the night. Just decided it wasn't worth the hassle
-
How many bank holidays are there? Got me worried
Manx 2 Day is end of August - can't miss that if we get a ride.
Impossible to please everyone I suppose.
Beginning of May?
I'm sure there's some others scattered about somewhere?
-
Different date! I wanna come
-
I had a vectra with a Witter bar on it. Not too ugly at all, it was the wife's car, so it had to be fairly unobtrusive or I wouldn't get away with it
I don't think you can fit a bike rack to a goose neck, but I may be wrong.

My comment about Duncan McDonald was referring to the comments at the top of the thread, where he won clubman B on his bike.
It's like explaining computers to me grandad this. You sort of wish you hadn't started
-
My post was not aimed specifically at the bike in the picture. I've no idea whether they're riding that in pre-65. I would think probably not, it's too obvious a job.
It applies more generally to trick bikes hidden (to some extent) as pre-65.
Should a pre-65 bike be allowed to use yamaha forks/wheels for instance, titanium parts. Then there must be rules to speak of.
There doesn't seem to be any harm in some of the modifications, that perhaps help with reliability, but trying to get a pre-65 bike down in weight to that of a modern machine is taking the ****.
Someone has to write/enforce the rules, or it's not a competition surely?
Someone mentioned the spirit of pre-65. What is the spirit of pre-65?
Looks to me like Duncan has it right, if you're going to modernise the bikes that much, then compete in a modern class and show the gassers/sherco's a thing or two. Brilliant spirit.
-
I can't believe that Pre-65 has gone this far, I think it's pathetic. Fair enough if you want to develop a "special" that may be a fun toy, perhaps as an engineering showpiece, but ride out of class.
Surely the "spirit of pre-65" is riding a pre-65 bike, like one you could ride in the 60's.
I'd feel like a cheat riding some of these cubs. Once you let the rules slip, it's just going to avalanche.
The enjoyment for me, even in twinshock would be to ride a bog standard bike (or with mods available at the time), and see how competitive you could be amongst other similar bikes and even modern bikes.
In my view it'll be the thing that kills pre-65 off, except for those who can afford to pay for it - It certainly takes the spirit away anyway.
For me, it ceases to be a sport if you have to buy your way there, but it doesn't seem to matter these days. I know there's plenty of examples of this in other sports, Chelsea for example, but it seems that pre-65 trials has the ability to apply the rules without the inclination.
Is this mid life crisis driving the need to win just one more time?
-
Did they offer to sell you one too

It would maybe help if those who are knowledgeable in this area post their views on here, just to give the Wakefield lads a kick start.
i.e. What are the problems associated with the rights of way network in general as far as trials are concerned.
I must admit, I've not come across too many problems, but most of our trials are contained within private land, the odd footpath maybe, but nothing more.
Just thought I'd suggest this, because if this was my area, I'd be sat here thinking "I don't mind helping out with my time, but I'm really not knowledgeable enough with regards to the real issues being faced".
i.e. I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about and could do more harm than good
-
I'd agree with that. I've got two of them. Initially the reason I bought it was that it's the only one I can find that's big enough
My original helmet (2 years old at least) has been jetwashed almost every week, with very little side effects. It's not the lightest of helmets, so maybe not the right one if you're built like a fairy but it's not that heavy at all.
I really don't know why they are so cheap. They definitely don't feel cheap and nasty.
-
Touched on this one before. I don't think you need a speedo for an MOT. Of course you have to convince your tester of that and he may get arsy if you do, so otherwise nip in to halfords. You can pick cycle speedos up for a few quid normally. Even the wireless ones aren't too much. Might have to dremel the fitting out a bit to fit the spokes, mut not too much hassle.
