  1. I only ever remember Roy Carey being the top man but I went abroad in '86 Didn't something happen to Carey around this point? I just had something in the back of my memory, but can't remember what it was. I seem to remember my old man telling me something, but at 18 year old, who listens to your old man?
  2. I hope it wasn't my post that started the torrent. I have to admit I was fishing for a bite with big eye brows , but I always feel guilty when anyone else joins in. To be honest I agree that he should really be riding the Novogars rather than supporting his local club. I can understand that any trial with a ferry journey involved can be expensive, but I wouldn't have thought Stratford would be too expensive from Scarborough. I saw a few lads from over that area. When you're chipping in for fuel it's very little more than a local trial. I'm certain that Scarborough club would expect their trials to be missed by their big boys if there's a National on. Good chance to compete with the likes of Grimbo, and co. Whatever the reason I don't think there's any need to get steamed up about it. A bit of mellow required I think.
  3. Oh and he didn't even think to check with our Nigel if it was OK? Educate 'im Dabster
  4. I used the similar car stuff to seal my spokes for a while. Worked fine. Just jetwashed it off when changing the tyre. Not sure about this stuff from the same site though???? Dodgy Polish
  5. For those who may have missed it on the front page, the Regs are available for the Welsh Trophy Trial on Saturday 2nd April. And for those with a diary as disorganised as mine, that's the day before the Novogar Victory trial, and in roughly the same area. Possibility of making a weekend of it? Entries close on 23rd March. Contact details for the secretary of the event are in the Regs, or otherwise, the man in the know for any other details will be the Clerk of the Course, Graham Evans of David Jones Motorcycles on 01686 625010 option 1. For those who want to make a weekend of it, Graham has also offered to put them all up at his house He'll even wash and prep your bikes for the next day. And don't forget beer is free in Wales. 6. I created a weird and wonderful mount that bolted through the rear light and hung down, but it's A*se!!!! Rubs on the wheel eventually and wore through today. Mind you it's lasted about 8 months. Everybody uses sticky yellow plates on back mudguard. They're not strictly legal (well they're not even loosely legal) but neither was mine and theirs are much neater. I was making a best effort as I was on 9 points for a while, but sod it, I'm back down to 6 and going for the sticky yellow plate.
  7. I haven't been upside down so much in ages At one point my bike was stuck half way up a climb and I couldn't get to it, it was that slippy. I had to slide down from the top and try to dislodge it on the way down, then slide the rest of the way with it. Must have been like watching corky the clown Reckon you buggered up with 4 sections - I cleaned 'em. The only effect the new front tyre had was to help the front mudguard block up I can understand the weather had an effect on the sections - I was hoping that was the case, otherwise I was fearing that the Novogar series had got beyond me. It may still have but that'll be my fault
  8. I resent that remark. I have a beautiful neck. It's just hidden by a load of chins. You must be getting a new bike are you Mark? Or are you going to borrow one that will manage 70 miles a day. We slumming it this year? We had plasma screen TV's in the room last year. I reckon we should sample the other extreme this time ..... although if you oldies are coming you'll probably want your creature comforts
  9. I think I'm right in saying that the scrutineers are not supposed to check for this sort of thing. I'm not sure what the full list is, but I think if they check the ball ends on levers, and make sure there's nothing falling off the bike that's about as far as they'll go. I got the feeling it was something to do with them certifying your bike as roadworthy when they don't have the authority to (MOT centre). The only place I've been where they did much more than that was the IoM, and that was only slightly more. They checked both brakes, and chain guard. Asked if my horn worked. I said it did, but he'd have to run along side at 30 mph. He chuckled and gave me my sticker I've got a little piezo electric buzzer now, but not wired it up yet. Somebody on here must have done the scrutineers course, and can give us the real info.

    Flywheel Cover

She's not bad for an old bird. Sorry didn't mean to hijack the topic Dave, just can't resist a quip. My response was because I was amazed how easy it seemed. How long does it take you to knock drawings up? What's the cost for actually producing something like that? The drawings look like they'd probably take me a year to produce for starters. Looks damned good - personalised plastics - you'll make a mint.

That is brilliant. I work with technology every day, but that is unbelievable. License to print money if you pardon the pun. Don't suppose you can print me one of these off. She's only small.
  12. Remember the "With the bike shut off" bit, otherwise the bike quickly becomes further away and awkward to hear.
  13. You were there today then Bad timing - 27th March. Same day as Welsh Trophy (I think) and day before Lomax?
  14. I heard Sam Connor lost around 15 - unbelievable. We left pretty early to get back as we had a fairly early 4.30 start. I would think time was tight for some people. A lot of very long sections. We were numbers 1, 2 and 3, (I was the fat bloke carrying the Sherco) so no queueing, we got back with 20 minutes to spare, but then didn't see anyone for the next 20 minutes. Mind you....the way we were riding we only had to go part way through most of the sections Needed a hinge fitted in the middle of my bike, not enough hopping ability for today I'm afraid. Anybody got a contact for the results when they're available? I can't wait to see where the top boys dropped their marks, while I can still remember some of the section numbers.
  15. What we saying here, it pulls loads well. Should there be a trailer option for it? The problem so far seems to be with that instant snap required for indoor, probably not a requirement for sidecars. A lot of the comments made about the power, I think are pretty fair. It doesn't seem to have it yet. No need for the Honda boys to get too stirred up about a little criticism. It'll get there at some point, the money is there to make it happen.

  19. We seem to have more than our fair share of numpties in this country. In Germany the unofficial rule is speed has priority, and generally it works. If you're crawling along, it's up to you to get out of the way. Admittedly the autobahns lend themselves better to higher speeds, but we're not talking racing speeds in UK, we're talking normal motorway speeds here. I don't think the driving test goes anywhere near making the driver competent, so you're releasing drivers on the road that are less than half way to being good drivers. Look at what happens in UK when we get a little splattering of snow. It's chaos, because nobody has any idea how to drive in snow/ice. Some old bird on the Whitby moors road yesterday. Even the gritter overtook her. If you're that scared, why not wait for the gritter to go past? No common sense. There was that much of a delay to the next car in front of her, that it was allowing the snow to lie and making things worse. Not sure about bringing in overtaking on both sides. Too many numpties who would never get the hang of it - I reckon you'd get a few years of massive increase in accidents caused by people pulling in to the left without looking. Needs drumming in to people not to hog the middle lane though - police should target it rather than drivers doing 75-80mph.
  20. Bit vague for a Centre Championship though maybe. Are the organisers of the Centre Championship the ACU of that Centre, or all the individual clubs running a round. I would say the Centre ACU should have the say regarding who is eligible or not eligible for Centre Championship points, no matter whether the club regard the rider as non-eligible for award or points at club level. Common sense and fairness would suggest that he should be eligible, otherwise it just encourages riders to stay in a class that they dominate rather than pushing the boundaries a little.
  21. As far as I know the Centre can't allow a rider to upgrade. Certainly used to be the case anyway. I had to go through a right fuss when I was C class, to go up to B a year early, and it went to the central ACU. One of our Centre ACU officials had to prepare a case to go to the ACU with (Jimmy Graham if anybody remembers him, I think he passed away - used to do all the radio reports in North Yorkshire area...sorry waffling down memory lane ). It does seem a little daft though. If your lad can compete at a higher level, why not let him go for it. Have you spoken to the club at all? Probably worth checking how official his upgrading is first. Centre Championship points should be down to someone at Centre level rather than club level.

    Gas Gas Txt Boy 50

Careful Richard....There's a whole team of us old farts who get all protective over possibly the most influential trials bike of all time - the TY80
  23. I'm not sure what other people think of the looks but.... I had a fairly long (about 16 year) break from trials. I was at a trial a few months after starting again. I remember the exact position I was stood on the river bank, for good reason, and it makes my face flush every time I've ridden past it since. I saw a 'big silver thing' ride through the expert route, and muttered slightly louder than under my breath "F*ck me what is that?" The bloke next to me said "Yamaha TYZ!", and I said "Jesus, not pretty is it?" He said nowt. Then I watched a few minutes later as he went back to his bike, an identical Yamaha TYZ. They were riding round together. Ever wished the ground would just swallow you up? I couldn't believe the lovely TY250 mono ad developed in to that. I had similar thoughts about some of the 90's Fantic's after my beloved 240, but kept my mouth shut
